Sculptures - Shipping Fees

Hello; although I am new to fineartamerica... I have listed many, many images of my photography. My question today though is; I make sculptures and want to sell them using this site... I've looked at other people's work, but how do you determine shipping fees?
Thanks.

Vivian, I sell sculptures also, and sold many on ebay to different countries. Shipping is a big deal, can be very expensive and risky depending on where and how you ship. The smaller items I use U.S postal service, The larger one UPS or Fed Ex depends where your shipping again. I get my rates on line from the website of the shipping service, there you can use there calculators to determine size ,destination etc. and you can get a pretty good idea of the cost, then increase that price by 10-15% it's not easy packing sculptures to ship abroad or even local. Calculate your boxes and your bubble wrap and tape and labels, it all cost money, consider Insurance A must! That's how I did it, here on FAA I really don't know since your on your own with sales of originals.
btw, nice sculpture!!

it depends on the weight, size of the package and where are you sending to, you can call up UPS or FedEx they can give you an estimate. I usually charge that to the buyers.

If you use UPS make very sure you have it well insured. They are not called OOOPs for nothing...

Hi Vivian... you are from Prince George, I'm from Grand Forks.... I ship all my sculptures on the Grey Hound Bus within Canada... way cheaper and never had a clay sculpture broken...(touch wood)... If you deal with GH a lot they do give discount rates too... just make sure you pack well.... Out side of Canada I use Canada Post....and they will quote you based on weight and size... international rates are about the same as UPS.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Barbara

Thank you everyone. Your replies have been extremely helpful. I've never shipped before, so again, thank you.
So another question/comment....? I post pictures in a 'new gallery' of my sculptures, I describe them, and give dimensions and size etc., and fineartamerica does all the rest? I mean as far as they host my gallery and I'm responsible for shipping etc.?

Faa only deal with prints.... offering your original sculptures for sale is allowed but you have to deal with all aspects of a sale.. just make sure potential buyers can contact you directly.

Vivian.. there is a themed image thread running this week for practical/functional art. You can use it to promote your sculptures if you can think of some practical uses for them..I like to use mine as doorstops and paperweights:-) It would be nice to see an array of your work!

re:FAA...take some great shots of your sculptures and offer those for sale as prints. your work will get much better coverage if FAA can make prints and sell them. good luck!

You can buy shipping via USPS, PayPal, Etsy... I highly recommend getting a little electronic scale (they can be had pretty cheap these days), then you won't have to guess at the weight and plug that number into a shipping calculator. Just estimate a bit more for packaging weight and cost.
