New Artists Websites

When will we be seeing the new "improved" AW. Originally promised end of May/beginning of June? Has that design improvement been put on hold?

I thought it was originally promised to be up in April.

I thought it was January - same as with the UK/European printer.... basically the answer is and has been to not hold your breath for a while now.

"Promise" was probably never a word they used though... it would probably be a good idea not to share that improvements or things are in the works until they are definite. Then we wouldn't bug them so much about them!

i predicted august, and i don't think i'm that far off. take as long as you need though.

I'd rather see it roll out smoothly than get rushed. I'm guessing that overhauling anything around here is a sizable project.

I'm with most here and hope that the delay is caused by the "depth and breath" of the new AW,

Agreed. Delay is fine, especially if it means improvement. I've worked in technology, you can't base release dates on vendor show dates. I'd rather have the delay and less bugs than see it rushed.

Hello everyone, if I am not mistaken I think Sean and Abbie mentioned recently it should be very soon, and by that happy face Abbie so nicely posted, whew, its getting close to the unveiling........

Also, I can not find behind the scenes were do I set the control for viewing my photos when someone visits my gallery and views the photo or the actual thumbnails which are in the gallery, I do remember a setting is it when I upload new photos, I indicate there? I can not locate that at all.

thanks Michael

trying to figure out what the happy face is doing. looks like it's putting itself to sleep or cleaning it's eye lids.

I thought the happy face was trying to rub its head and pat its belly at the same time indicating a difficult task. I'll be happy to wait until bugs are worked out rather than endure the chaos that goes on at sites like Zazzle when any change takes place.

"Waiting IS."

I thought the happy face was scratching it's head, or maybe trying to keep his hair from standing on end...lol!

Looks like the happy face is trying to get rid of that little "problem" that keeps popping up (on top of its' head)...........

I think Abbie's animated emoticon indicates that she is holding an Ace up her sleeves, and that Ace is the inside information that the new improved AW will be out any day now. She wouldn't toy with us or even attempt to jump into this lion's den unless she knows how this would end. That's the lesson I learned from the Google experiment anyhow. -W

What's on everyone's wish list. while we're waiting?

Mine is to have a AW that looks nothing like FAA and something that I can send people to and not be confused with the FAA site. Almost any of the "template" sites's offerings would work, just not a re-hash of the existing site, let's set some standards here for the industry!

Gee, I think I'd like the fully customizable site that's touted in their sales pitch: "Your website is fully-customizable..."
http://fineartamerica.com/announcementartistwebsites.html

It would also be nice if the thumbnails were at least a wee bit larger than postage stamps.

Mike Savad

if we give too many new ideas from the wish list, we will never see the update. it's like a new yarn ball for a cat.

Love the visuals Mike, but I highly doubt the Powers That Be give a rat's behind about what we want on "our" site.

Mike Savad

you never know. it's just that one extra idea that he could slip in while the code is open and fresh, and it winds up being a 9 month extension. sort of like pulling a loose thread and the whole shirt unravels.

Well, since you asked, Rich. I've put this into the suggestions thread, also: have the drop-down gallery menu in the AW site in the same order as our galleries -- not alphabetical. Somehow, I don't think this will happen, but what COULD happen is ... more font choices for our banners! What could be the issue with offering four or five instead of just two? I know we can upload our own customizable banner, but it's hard to make one without it ending up looking "soft."

I'd really love to have just this site as my website, and not have to go create another one merely because it looks better.

Thanks, I have a feeling it's going to be really nice once it's ready to unveil.

I would rather have a smaller full image then a larger thumbnail that only shows a cropped version of the image. Cropping the art in way to many cases makes the image really unattractive, imho.

But I agree with being patient. I would rather not see it at all then to have them roll out something that is FUBAR. To many web companies do that.

Patricia,et al,

For me, I'd like a site at least as nice as the Zenfolio/Photoshelter/Bludomains/Squarespace,etc. that is offered currently. Not a "tweaked" FAA site.

After all, we should and Sean should realize, that the quality of the new sight, "directly" impact us, as artists, but also FAA for profits. We are not asking for something that only benefits us as artists, but also will prove profitable to FAA.

So what we see will indicate, at least to me, what Sean thinks these improvements are worth. With a new "site" that looks like a stand alone site, it's much easier for people to market this and also encourage members to join the "premium" level too! To have a "world class site" for $30 a year would be a hell of a bargain! And that would pay for itself the first few weeks!

Had hoped, by now, maybe a note from Corporate...............

There will be no note.

It will be here soon

Abbie, will there be an announcement in Discussions? A lot of people are on vacation in the summer and might scan just their emails.

Can you tell us if it is currently planned for release this month?

Thanks!

Abbie Shores

I am not allowed to say anything.

I'd be far more interested in a UK or a push, European printer.

Roseann Caputo

If they made it so I could integrate my AW with my website, it would be nice. And by that I mean I wouldn't have to change the colors and layout of my site to match my AW. However, I will refrain from any further comments until I see what Sean has coming out.
