Bot Festival

There has to be some sort of global 'bot festival going on. Last night and today I received a huge number of views on all sorts of photos, several times what I normally get. They're from several locations but many are tagged as "La Garenne - France".

Don't worry, nobody bought anything. And no comments were left.

People on vacations may be browsing.

Have you checked all the IP addresses?

The FAA page design doesn't make it easy to check IP addresses. You can only get an address in a 'tool tip' and can't even copy it with Ctrl-C. But I checked one, from Tokyo, and it verified as being actually from Tokyo.

I'm continuing to get vastly more views today than normal. Apparently my strategy of not doing a darn thing to promote myself is finally paying off. :-)

But seriously, this is a bit weird. I did have a few sales last month, maybe that boosted my search ranking somewhat.

New York and Beverly Hills are hitting me a bit lately, but not anything unusual. Maybe 7-8 hits a day....

Where are all the real people when you need them ;-)

You either posted something in the forums that got people interested in checking out you profile or you have moved up a bit in the searches. I have been getting a lot of real visitors in the past 2 days myself. I always get views from France but never sales.

Wait, you are saying that you can have a visitor, which is not from NY, Bevery Hills, or Kiez ? :D

The past few days its been constant Palo Alto, CA for me.

I'm moving to Palo Alto........there's a great Artists' community there..........I'm POSITIVE !! .....and of such diverse taste in art, too.......just wonderful.
'course, there's always Beverly Hills.........nah, that's old hat out of fashion, right?

JUST KIDDING

With that said, Vivian, lets hope its not a bot !! .... and that others are seeing it too!!

Lighten up Frank.....ok...I added...j/k.....!

Thanks for the alert, Vivian .... guess I need to slow down when reading, eh?

I've had a huge increase in visits from the New York Bot, also more than usual from Beverley Hills and Simi Valley. I assumed it was because I'm experimenting a bit with 'promoting' keywords, just to see if anything happens.

Bots are my pals. Without bots I would have zero visitors.

Yeah, there seems to be an influx from France.

Most of the IPs look like they are in the 62.210.x.x range.

Looking at some of them directly, they are associated with a Forum/Blog spam bot.

The Palo Alto one is more than likely the FaceBook bot, when people share links to your images...

Come to think of it, Mr. Beverly Hills and Mr. Simi Valley have been ignoring me for a while--maybe they can't learn anything more from my work. And where is the guy from Germany--he has left me alone. If anyone knows the Bot Hotline, send it my way--I need to place a call. Without the Bot family, I'm largely ignored!

I've been seeing Palo Alto show up a bit lately too.

I used to think that Beverly Hills was Paris Hilton... or the Kardashians...

The bots go haywire whenever I tweet something. There are a ton of bots that monitor twitter for their own purposes most of which are completely useless and unrelated to me selling anything. They are from Amazon AWS and exist for their own purposes: to monitor social media, collect links, collect email addresses, collect statistical data, spamming, hacking and content scraping. I think the bots are even more prevalent on my personal WordPress site for some reason.

The only useful bots are the search engine bots such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. At least there's a chance they could potentially lead to some human traffic. I'm undecided whether there's much value in Facebook or Pinterest bots.

Just had all my stuff viewed from Tucson, Arizona. Makes a change of scene from the usual California grass. Get back Bot!

Bots from Beijing, Fuzhou and Guangzhou, China plus Brisbane, Asia/Pacific Region have been visiting just one of my images intermittently for a couple months, adding up to hundreds of views at a time. I'd love to know what this image has that makes it crosses cultural bounds so readily.

I know they matter, but......am swept today by three bots - their visits wipe out any 'real' visitors I could know about so I can't tell who here has visited anymore,
but for exactly = ONE non-bot.

I've been getting hit by the Palo Alto Facebook bot a lot lately. Given that I live in Silicon Valley, the Palo Alto, Sunnyvale etc. bots are "local," is kind of odd.

Gosh I just checked and I have never seen this one New York, Russian Federation........and one I like alot is Beverly Hills, could be someone important.....so many recent from Beverly Hills, I wonder could I be getting a sale interest..

Dave that was an interesting story, ..

Lynn- interesting about the Chinese bots hitting one of your images and not the rest. The exact same thing (bots from the same locations in China) happens on one of my images, but not the rest of them. For a while, I thought that maybe the Chinese were obsessed with Monkey 47 gin (subject of the image), but I guess that is not the case. It is curious though.

Lynn Palmer

It's hard to fathom Adele, in the case of my image they must love old wooden kitchen tables, a kerosene lamp or a bottle of vinegar and herb condiment. Maybe it's making the rounds of China's version of Pinterest.

Its all useless Spam bots Lynn, from China.

The ones labelled as Brisbane are incorrectly labelled, if you run their IPs through a locator, then they are also really in China.

They are all tagged in https://cleantalk.org/blacklists/27.157.126.123

Frank, someone said, (Abbie?), the Palo Alto bot is the Facebook bot. If you have been posting a lot of your art links on Facebook that would explain it. Either that or they are doing another Facebook experiment. My take is they are scanning the keywords and description for info relevant to appealing to you on Facebook, and others who will appeal to you on Facebook, lest we forget FB is all about the personal info. They can glean a lot about us from our descripts. Or, maybe they want to see how long it will take us to slit our wrists when we can't see past their bots to real views.

Hopefully, it is a good thing, but...

Back to the OT...

On July 2nd I had a firestorm of views from all over the world - maybe hundreds. It started at midnight and continued for 24 hours. The next day the numbers were way down. Now I'm back to what I usually get - maybe a dozen views on a good day.

Totally weird. I'll never know what caused the firestorm on the 2nd. Maybe I was being 'featured' in some way, but I wasn't aware of it.

On July 2nd I had a firestorm of views from all over the world - literally hundreds. It started at midnight and continued for 24 hours. The next day the numbers were way down. Now I'm back to what I usually get - maybe a dozen views on a good day. Exactly 3 so far today.

Totally weird. I'll never know what caused the firestorm on the 2nd. Maybe I was being 'featured' in some way, but I wasn't aware of it.

Thank you! I was getting excited about Palo Alto over the last week, but I guess it's just FB. haha I even posted on my page, If anyone lives in Palo Alto, please PM me. hahaha Later in the day...Anyway, I'm getting hit by Palo Alto on a pair of earrings that I did not share on FB, so can it still be FB?
