Most Powerful Feature Yet
Posted by: Sean McDunn on 03/16/2010 - 4:48 PM
This is, by far, the most powerful feature released to date...
Effective immediately, all POD members now get their very own websites for promoting and selling their artwork.
I recently purchased the domain name "artistwebsites.com". If you take the URL for your FAA profile page and replace "fineartamerica.com" with "artistwebsites.com"... you'll be on your very own website!
Examples:
http://mike-irwin.artistwebsites.com/
http://1-eg-cleveland.artistwebsites.com/
http://karin-kuhlmann.artistwebsites.com/
http://elizabeth-edwards.artistwebsites.com/
http://scott-listfield.artistwebsites.com/
http://skip-hunt.artistwebsites.com/
Your website has all of the powerful features of FAA... but dedicated specifically to you:
-- The artwork page shows only your artwork.
-- The search engine searches only your artwork.
-- The events page shows only your events.
etc...
It's your very own FAA!
Plus - it's fully customizable. You can change the header graphic, header font, etc.
Your website stays perfectly in-sync with your FAA profile. If you post something to your website... it appears on FAA. If you post something on FAA... it appears on your website.
Take a look at some of these beautiful pages from some sample sites:
http://skip-hunt.artistwebsites.com/art/all/texture+and+color/canvas+prints
http://barbara-keith.artistwebsites.com/art/all/butterflies+and+bugs/canvas+prints
http://helena-nelsonreed.artistwebsites.com/art/all/goddesses/framed+prints
http://scott-listfield.artistwebsites.com/art/all/all/greeting+cards
Visitors to your website can purchase prints of your artwork with custom framing and matting (just like they do on FAA)... without ever leaving your site!
I could go on and on... but I'll end with this:
You've now got the power of FAA all to yourself. You've got the FAA search engine... FAA image rendering... FAA order fulfillment... FAA search engine optimization... FAA events calendar... etc... all dedicated to you and your artwork.
Best of all - your website is included at no extra charge to all POD members.
If you're a POD member, please give your new site a try and post your feedback here. Your login name and password are the same as what you use on FAA.
This is only the beginning. Like everything else on FAA, these sites will continue to get better and better (i.e. more features, more customizations, etc.)

That is the most wonderful news, especially for sorts like me that have a www address connected directly to FAA (no other site of my own) and now I can have my own site courtesy this facility, when I join POD and when I work out how to set up, etc. THANK YOU, Brian. Also, thanks for the new home page that appears when I log in: all so sensible, legible, usable: kudos again. Sincerely, Vivian

Vivian,
Once you point your URL to your new website, let me know. I'd love to take a look and show everyone what you did. That's exactly what I hoped people would do.
Basically... for about $5, you can buy any domain name that you want (e.g. worldsgreatestartist.com) and then point that domain to your new FAA website (e.g. elizabeth-edwards.artistwebsites.com).
Once you do that, you can send people to http://worldsgreatestartist.com... and they'll see your new website.

Roxy,
You're welcome.
Here's a page from your site:
http://roxy-riou.artistwebsites.com/art/all/floral+photography/canvas+prints
Just put your own header up top, and you're in business. It's a beautiful page of just your artwork!
I'm very excited about this feature, in case you can't tell.

With these new websites, I'm trying to solve all of the problems that make it difficult for artists to sell online.
Most artists do not have their own websites... or if you do, you face the following problems:
1. It can be very difficult to sell prints via your own site... not anymore.
2. It can be very time consuming trying to optimize your website for high rankings in Google... not anymore.
3. When you post new artwork on your website, the only people who know about it are the 10 - 20 people who visit your site each day. Not anymore... now the entire FAA community and our 3+ million monthly visitors will know about it.
4. It can be very difficult to display your artwork in various configurations (i.e. different frames, stretched canvases, greeting cards, etc.)... not anymore.
5. It can be very difficult to design an internal search engine that finds your artwork quickly and easily... not anymore.
etc...
In order to be successful online, you need a website that's very user-friendly, visually-appealing, and makes it easy for visitors to make a purchase. That's exactly what these new websites are designed to do.
I'm committed to making these websites the most powerful, affordable artist websites anywhere on the internet. They're only going to get better from here.

I just customized my own header. This was easier than making a peanut butter sandwich! Again, my thanks.

Has anyone found a way to modify the homepage besides the header?

Hi All,
I am new to all of this. I stopped my painting and Art back in 1995 when my then husband told me I had no talent and he didn't have anything good to say about my work. I know I may never be perfect, but I think I can express myself in Art. I want to do two different types of work. One will be painting in watercolor of pets in different settings. The other subject area is Star Trek. I always wanted to draw Science Fiction, and I have seen paintings of space and the Enterprise. I want to create some interesting extension of my thoughts by drawing a character and what he may dream about next to him/her. I am using real pictures from telescopes out in space from our satellites. Additionally I am using photos from my puppies and cats through the years. Should I wait until I have finished my set or begin to advertise my theme now? Now that I am retired I can make a few paintings a week.
Does anyone have suggestions?

if you have stuff now, advertise now, because it takes a while to advertise things, it's not instant. the longer you wait, the longer it will take. just be sure that whatever you do upload, is sharp, free of as much noise as possible and cropped clean on the edges. the larger the better, don't keep them at a small size.

How would I sell any ORIGINAL PAINTINGS on my FAA website or my personal website (via FAA )....if I find buyers who want my ORIGINALS? All up to me to arrange and do
the complete transaction? Does FAA software or policies allow me to market non-FAA art on the new "personal website" Faa (Brian, thanks a million!!!!!!!!!) created?
donkoester@earthlink.net I am a full member and thanking God everyday for all these great sites and artists...as well as the hardworking administrators like Beth and Brian!

Is this different than the website I paid 30.00 a year for? That's the website I list everywhere because it just shows my art.

it's the same place. you get two sites the one that's hooked up to the internal search. and the the artist website that just your stuff, but you need to direct the traffic.

@Don. When you upload your image, there is a place to specify that it is an original. You specify the price, and the dimentions of your image. You are responsible for fulfillment. I think FAA migh take a cut. Also my assumption is that once you upload a good quality image of your original, you can still sell the reproduction images as normal.

The artistwebsite worked fine when I first went to it and logged in. After I changed the banner and made other modifications, however, some unexpected glitches occurred. When I logged out to show a friend how the site would work for a visitor, whenever I pressed the "Home" button, it took me to the FAA home, not my website home as it should have; when I pressed the "Artwork" button, it took me to the general artwork section of FAA, not to just my artwork as it should have; when I try to login to just the artistwebsite, it takes me directly to FAA, not to the login for artistwebsite like it should. In fact, the only links that work correctly on my page are those of my actual pieces. Again, the page worked fine with the default settings; it was not until I uploaded my own banner and made changes that this started to happen. Here's a link to the site:

Any help would be appreciated.

My name is Erik Poppke. I think this site has potential however I realy do not know how to take advantage of it. It seems there is no one to contact to solve a problem such as how do i remove the filter on my site page. My address is erik-poppke.artistwebsites.com. When using Google, my old links come up. To use the address bar you cannot type www or it does not work. How to tell everyone to use the address bar and do not type www is quite inconvenient especially for my printed cards etc. Would appreciate getting enlightened. I have had great success selling in shows and one on one. Seems almost no one is visiting my site. Is this company for real? Help! Erik Poppke 575 551 4329 or erikpoppke@gmail.com

I would like to know what is the secret to become successful selling in FAA, so far I have sold only one single picture and I am close to be one year with them, besides no one can say that my art is not good enough no way!! in fact there is an wonderful set of gorgeous shots from the fauna of the famous Galapagos Islands plus some from the jungle. ANY ADVICE??

have good work, lots of good work, and advertise. an avatar would help as well. you signed in with a collectors account so i can't even see your artwork to say much more. in the end it doesn't matter how good the work is, it all depends who sees it. if you don't advertise, no one will ever know your here.

what do you mean by edit?
the artist website your limited to i think a banner image and some background colors. it's not as flexible as an outside, site, but it's still a good place to send people too. otherwise just set up galleries and upload images and they will show on both sites.

I think it's great that people can link from my FAA homepage straight to my website.
Posted by: Dariusz Gudowicz on 06/01/2013 - 7:50 PM
Could we have personalized auto posts to twitter? I think that the default ones are a bit to much aggressive.
I don't want to post "artwork to sell" to my twitter or FB friends. I think that just a title of the work would be enough.
Of course, the other would like to say more or less but please, leave it to us.
Posted by: Julia Bars on 06/01/2013 - 9:14 PM
I agree with Dariusz. That is why I don't use FAA automated posts to FB any more. I prefer to post my own link and picture, at least it looks more personal to my friends. Let's not forget that FB is meant to be a friends network.
As for the best feature, well, the best feature is to have your OWN website!
Sincerely,
Julia

Login to your AW website and the Behind the Scenes page comes up. Here under General you can see the areas you can change. (I presume you are asking about your Artistwebsite (AW) not your FAA page!)
