Bird Id Help

Can anyone familiar with the California coast near Big Sur help me verify the identification of this bird?

The brownheaded ones are young of the year. Juvenile.

Thanks, Bradford. I thought that might be the case and had speculated as such in my description. I'll be more definite now :) - and add juvenile, juveniles to my key words.

Actually it might be a stellar's jay. Sorry I am on the East Coast.

That was my first thought, Bradford. I'm not a bird expert by any means, but the first time I saw one out west, I looked it up because I thought it was a cool-looking bird. Used to the regular bluejays in Michigan. I think it's a Stellar's Jay as well.

I'm pretty sure it's a Steller's Jay. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of it right now from the side to show the wing feathers, but the rest of it looks like that. We have them in our yard all the time. Very squawky!

Oh, thank you all. I'm so glad I asked. I'll close this now.
