Would like a sale, but will settle for a feature.

Features

Ok - so now my ulterior motive revealed - the majority of you chose feature- is that the one of the 3 that you believe leads to more sales? (I don't know, that's why I'm asking)

Hi, Maggie,

Looks like Mother was right -- I'm a stranger in a strange land!

Here's my reasoning, considering that I don't believe any of these have a significant impact on FAA search placement, or sales:

1. Features are chosen by a single person (moderator) in a specific Group.

Favorites are usually bestowed by many individuals, whether or not they're Group members.

2. Feature badges eventually fall off the chosen artist's product page, so may have only a brief impact on viewers. (Assuming the Featured artist belongs to more than three groups.)

Favorites are saved for viewers (fans!) to peruse, at their leisure and from their own portfolio page, time and time again. A personally curated Gallery of Wonder! (At least, that's how I use my Favorites.)

3. Featured art falls off the Group Overview page, into certain Group oblivion.
Favorites, on the other hand . . . see #2, above. ;-)

If Features led in any direct way to sales . . . well, I'd be typing this from my vacation home on the Riviera! ;-)

Wendy- thx for explaining.

Features people: Do you list your features in the description part of the listing when there's more than 3?

while likes help you in the search a tiny bit. a feature not only adds you to the front page but labels it as something. it gives you a better chance at being seen. anyone can like something, there is enough proof on this site that shows that. little clubs form and junk gets votes. features, it has to be a little more special.

i never list features in a the description, buyers don't care that your images were featured in FEET FEET FEET or something like that. leave the description for the image. its like listing all the attendance awards you earned in walmart.

Favs....I look at others' Favs, and am sure they look at mine....so,if I get a fav....well, maybe my image will be seen at another's favs.....by curious buyers? Who knows.

Likes don't show up anywhere that buyers would go....do they?

Being Featured is...being accepted/special to the group admin only.....but does bring views and l/f from group members...nice!
Sometimes I list Features which are 4th and not posted under the pix.....do buyers care? Who knows.......

Likes. But rotating new content on the front page. Hmmmm, I have to be difficult :)

Viv -- thanks for the back-up! :-)

And yes, I list my Features in the comments section.

I began doing so when a public relations specialist, who routinely gets his clients' names in the national and International press, called me "silly" for "blowing off an opportunity,"

Is he right? Wrong?

I'm not sure, but he pulled a 7-figure salary last year . . . while I can't afford to buy hamburger.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? ;-)

Thx everyone!

Cheers,Wendy......chicken tonight?,lol !

Thx for your perspective too Vivian. Wendy, now that you said that about the public relations
specialist, I'm going to list mine. I may not have sales, but I've got tons of feature to buy
me 10 seconds of fame!!!

More on features - how often does FAA change the ones on the front page, and do they notify you if they've featured you there?

Maggie, Home Page Features is a 'sore' point for many here..............

Features (I assume you are talking about features in groups), then Favorites because I don't get them that often so when I do, I think it's more likely that someone REALLY liked my image, then Likes (though if FAA did away with Likes, the promotional threads would use Favorites instead and then a Favorite wouldn't really tell me anything. So I like having both Like and Favorite available.

What I don't like are group administrators who are downright stingy with Features. I'm not talking about selective, I'm referring to NEVER adding new ones. I have had my images picked up on Google image search from the group home page, but never from a discussion within a group. So if the group administrator is at all interested in "promoting" the members of the group, s/he needs to feature new images at least occasionally.

I have sold pieces that had no group features and very few or no likes or favs at the time of sale so not sure it matters as much as marketing outside the site.

Nikolyn, I can imagine you are frustrated :(

Laura - go figure!

Frank and Vivian I am off to check out your links. Thank you.

I appreciate all of them, but I guess I'd prefer features.

getting a feature leads to comments favs etc. i have had many sales where people simply went to my gallery, and found it that way. on those there were even very few keywords. i think at one point the votes and so forth meant something, but these days, i don't think it's anything more than decoration.
