Cs6 How To Load New Plugins From Web

I recently up dated to CS6. I have a number of favorite plug-ins that I used in CS5. I have not been about to figure out to add them to CS6 filters folder. I downloaded them and place them in the plug-in folder for CS^ by going to programs and clicking on adobe to get to the plug-in folder. They do not show up in the filters window when I am editing an image.

Can someone please explain step by step how to load them so they can be used when editing a photo? Thank you very much!

First, make sure CS6 is closed. Drop and drag or copy and save the plugins to the CS6 plug ins folder. If they are zip files, they will then have to be extracted. Make sure the plug ins are compatible with CS6. Some may not be.

Linda.. also check to see if they need to be "installed". If as you say you downloaded them.. then they likely have to be installed. There will be some type of setup.exe or install.exe in the folder for the plugin.

But if you have your previous photoshop installation you certainly should be able to just copy them from the previous photoshop version plugin folder to the CS6 plugin folder and they should work.. but as Louise mentioned you will have to close CS6 and restart it for them to be seen by CS6.

It may be possible that they are old plugins that are not compatible with CS6.

Thank you both for your replies to my question. The plug-ns are open and not in a zip file. Yes, they need to be installed, but that is what I cannot figure out how to do in the CS6. This is a brand new Asus computer. The old on no longer works. Therefore I do not have the CS5 files. I may be as you suggested, that the plug-ins are too old. That is very sad, because some of them are among my favorite one to use. Perhaps in the end I will have to go back to CS5.

give us a hint... what plugins are you talking about?

CS6 is the same when it comes to installation of plug ins. Just direct the program into the plug ins folder in CS6 (again being sure to close it first). Make sure that the plug in is in one location to start with. There might be issues if you have it, say, on a flash drive and again in Program Files.

If they are freebies, like "Harry's FIlters", there are always newer versions you can download. Also check to see if they needed a license key to start with. You may be able to contact the site where you got them for a new license key.

If, however, they are "borrowed" plug ins, you might be SOL and will have to find more compatible ones. As Bob mentioned, if we knew what they were, we could be perhaps more precise.
