Is There A 'rule' About Sales Announcement Page Messages?

I have had someone post on mine asking the buyer to check out their work.
It doesn't seem very polite to me, or am I being over sensitive and I should be doing it to everyone else too?

Doesn't sound like good form, to me. Smacks of desperation. Terri, you can delete that message. I would.

Bad etiquette in my opinion...

Wow. Beyond rude.

Very rude and worthy of a quick delete as well as a private email to the spammer.

very bad form. equivalent of standing in someone else's store without permission holding up a sign to another store.

You should certainly pass that along to the management. That and posting "congratulations on your $ale" should be reason for a temp ban in my mind. Or having ones thumbs chopped off.

There were no congratulations, it was very direct. "Collector from Bristol, UK please check out my artworks" That was it in it's entirety.
Glad to know I wasn't being over sensitive. Thank you all for your support. I feel much better now.

Wow I would report that.

I would not be surprised they posted the same comment on some other's as well.

Thank you :)

It's just someone who hasn't been taught the correct form of etiquette. Or perhaps someone who doesn't care about the proper etiquette!

That is beyond rude and if I were a collector that would be a sure way to guarantee I DON'T check out your work...

Well, I think it's beyond rude, too, and it would never have occurred to me that anyone would do that. I'm a little bothered by Philip's comment: "I suspect that many of the "congrats on your sale" regulars / comments are trying to accomplish the very same thing, just more indirectly and not so out in the open. I'm sure there a genuine congrats too, but..."

I don't go through the Recent Sales often and I usually don't stop to congratulate anyone. When I do, it's either because it's a "friend" or because I am genuinely awed by the work. I always add a specific comment about the work so it's not just a "congratulations on the sale", but now I'm wondering whether others have the same perception as Philip. Doesn't really matter - I'm comfortable with what I do and will keep on doing it, but I just wonder.

I am sure that some put the Congrats on your sale message for their own PR purpose. But I think a few congrats will pique the interest of potential buyers. People do like to follow the crowd.

Nikolyn, I like your idea of giving congrats, but adding a beautiful comment as well. In my mind, that is the highest form of 'netiquette'.

It would never occur to me to congratulate someone for selfish reasons or to be so suspicious of someone congratulating me.

I agree, the member posting that on your sale is totally wrong wrong wrong.

When I do comment on someone else's art it is always genuine. If I post it to my own FB page then I am beyond wowed.

sometimes people will have several sales at once that they post in a thread and people may cut and paste... I always try to congratulate them on each sale.. and if I say congrats,. or way to go! or awesome sale... etc.. I mean it. There are enough issues like Terri mentioned than to try to measure everyone's motives in writing congratulations on a sale. The comments DO add up for the artist who sold and that is a good thing.

I cannot believe anyone would have the nerve to actually write something like that:/

It's never crossed my mind that anyone would see a congratulations by me on someone's sale & follow that link to my work! I doubt many people think that way, and most congratulations are sincere!! Terri...what happened to you was VERY rude & I'm glad it's been taken care of!! And...Congratulations on your sale...which I sincerely mean from the bottom of my heart!!! :-)

Bless you Lynn, thank you.

" ConGRat$ of UR $ale" - okay, that's not attractive.

Or " Beautiful tree - I have one just like it. Stop by and see my gallery of 437 BEAUTIFUL TREES".

Transparent & wreaks of desperation.

Sorry that happened to you, most of the Artists here are overwhelmingly supportive of each other.

I had a person do the same on one of my recent sales.

I looked and he had made a similar comment on others' work that had sales that day. He actually asked the buyers to check out his page.

I deleted his comment.
