Nitpicking But...

I add the copyright symbol at the end of each image description when I post a new image on FAA: ©Kathleen Bishop 2014.

Sometimes the © comes out looking like a © and sometimes it's a black rhombus with a white question mark inside - That's up with that

Kathleen, I'm not sure about the copyright symbol issue, but I noticed that the type on your bio is pretty small and light blue. I didn't realize we had any control over that. I checked mine, and it hasn't changed, nor do I see a way to change it. I wonder if this is glitch?

Kathleen, I don't know what happens to make the black boxes,etc......I just go and change them/edit.....they don't reappear.

Patricia...I typed something in blue in Word, then copy/pasted it into my bio as a test....it pasted black !!

Word always does that. Type those in manually

You can replace the triangle with the copyright symbol, © by holding down Alt key and typing in 0169 on the number keypad.

The same instead of © happens to me, too. I paste from Word with no problem when uploading. Quite often when I edit the keywords, © in the description changes to after submitting, without any editing. Adding a space after the symbol before I submit seems to help as it prevents this problem from happening most of the time.

i only add the copyright to the image itself. i don't like the - i'm always watching you, in your face, kind of look in my descriptions. and they would ignore it anyway if they were taking it.

If your using a different font that FAA doesn't have it will replace your font with another. That could also be a reason that might happen. What font are you using?

Word is known for this. All Microsoft programmes do it. Publisher was terrible. Web designers would cringe when people gave them things in Word lol

That's clever Kevin ! I might try using the FAA font.....which is? ?

I do copy/paste the copyright sentence from Word using the Helvetica font. I don't have that sentence in my bio, just at the end of each image description. I put it in the description because I paste the description on other sites along with the thumb image. What I'd like to know is why the © symbol isn't consistent. If Word is the culprit then why does it work a lot of the time? Is it because FAA has multiple servers that read it differently depending?

Patricia, thanks for the heads-up about the font size on my bio. I increased it. The reason my bio font is light blue is because the background on my AW site is black and black font would disappear. I know it doesn't look good on the FAA profile page but since we aren't allowed to set up separate coding for AW pages, I'm stuck with choosing a color that can be seen on both sites. We do have control over color and font size in the bio via a bit of HTML.

Georgia, the symbol always changes to the for me too if I edit and re-post. But often the symbol will change to on the initial post. I guess I'll take Shasta's advice and type in the numbers going forward. Pain in the patoot.

Kathleen, the blue font looks great, I just didn't realize we had the ability to change it. I see now from your response that we can make changes to font via html coding. Thanks for clearing that up.

@ Kathleen -

For as long as I can remember... this happens when we click onto "Edit" behind the scenes. It doesn't matter whether you edit anything or not - it will still happen when we tick "submit." The © symbol will stay as long as we don't try to change anything on the page. Mine has never changed all by itself without my having touched the page.

I've seen it a couple of times - never thought about it - I just go in and fix it. Must happen if I copy a description and paste it. I do all my editing here on FAA - I don't create in Word, then copy and paste. I learned on Word Perfect and that's what I use when I'm doing something else. I've never liked Ms Word - although I use Microsoft Works for spreadsheets and database work. The problem with word perfect - it's relatively expensive vs Word is "free" with Windows.

Donna, for me it sometimes changes to on the initial upload and sometimes it doesn't. Curious about the inconsistency.

Patricia, does that mean you are going to play with your bio coding?

Will be interesting to see the April AW surprise. Hope it's a good one.

@ Kathleen - so weird! I hate to see that little black diamond with the white question mark... appear. If that's what's happening, it is consistent, for sure. Next time I upload (and probably thereafter ;) ) I'll be taking a looksie!
