Life Does Not Suck

Just been one of those days I feel like sharing....

So, my schedule for the day.

0400: wake up and drive to work.

0500: start work

0600: Note good sunrise forming so take a break and shoot the beach across the street from work.

0700: run simulator training

1000: take long lunch and lay out on beach across the street from work.

1100: WHILE laying out on the beach watch Blue Angel practice. There is just something about being on the beach right where they come whipping over going feet dry. Miss flying as I watch the lead solo hit machity snot as he goes feet dry. (Machity snot being the tech term for a hair under the speed of sound so the wings are vaping and starting to produce a mach halo.)

1230: Shower at gym

1300: back at work for second sim well tanned and rested.

Yupp, life does not suck.

Oh, this was this morning.

I think the waking up at 0400 WOULD suck! That is about the time I went to sleep actually.

Everything else is pretty cool. I went to the beach yesterday because it SOARED up to 65 degrees. May be 50 here today but with the north wind it feels cold.

Yes, John, it would. LOL

Beautiful shot, JC.

Always good to have a job where you can take a photo op beach break.

I agree with John. Generally. HOWEVER - for that sunrise and the Blue Angels.... yeah, I'd do it. Maybe only once, but I'd do it. GORGEOUS sunrise, JC. So pastel and serene.

Life is good. Caution: Watch out for the Batman mask tan lines. Your secret identity could be compromised.

I remember that beach! It was quite some time ago though 1983! Too bad the Naval Schools of Photography up on the hill is gone. I think they are not even called Photographers anymore. Enjoy your Shore Duty!

Will the Blue Angels be touring airshows this year?

Howdy JC

Nice of you to share your today's life experience unfolding. Thank you for moving me to reflect on a favourite day I recall. From the West Coast of Canada (B.C. Sunshine Coast)...here's a favorite shot of the boys skim boarding on Roberts Creek Beach:

(Note: My forte is not photography but I do enjoy painting (with acrylic) and modifying photographs I do take.....While I'm at it (posting here), I'll post a modified photograph taken at a local car show on a bright sunny summer day a few years ago... ( probably more than 10 years ago...I feel time sensitive today because I'm 64 today...no joke... grin):

My Dad is smiling at your from heaven! Pensacola, flying school and flying over the Pacific was his dream state when he in the marines. Now he's flying around without an airplane!

What people don't realize if you go to bed at a decent time 4am is no problem, it's a no brainer, you Get-Off-Early!

Marlene Burns

so you took two and a half hour lunch break today.....hmmm...i bet that would make believers out of just about anybody!
life doesn't suck alright!

Marlene,

It's all that stress - of the Sun and Waves for the Fly boy!

Yeah, 0400 is pretty standard for me even on weekends. Of course, I tend to go to bed around eight. I am not much of a TV watcher so don't see much point in staying up late when there are so many advantages to shooting the sunrise. (No traffic, easy to park, no one there to get in my way, etc etc)

The Blues ARE flying this show season and have already started actually. I suppose I will shoot them here when I get the right glass.

Two and a half hour lunches are pretty typical for me if I am not hard scheduled. Hard schedule means I have specific classes or sims that fill the day. If I am only hard scheduled for half the day I have other stuff I need to do but can choose when I want to get those hours/duties done so I flex my schedule around sunrises, the gym, and prime tanning hours......

When wearing the Batman mask on the beach I wear SPF 100 on my chin.

We love the Blues too. I can see them from our yard, depending on which way the wind is blowing we can see them go by from inside the house.

I used to think getting up at 7am and being at work by 8am was impossible, at some point I stopped watching all that late nite TV, found out it was easy to get up early when I wasn't tired! I normally am up by 4am not 3am but I could do it now. I love that schedule although I am an early morning person, some aren't they are just reviving up at 9pm.

I'd be happy about your job too, congratulations! Just curious, are any planes or jets available for you to fly? It's probably not like the old prop plane days when fuel was less expensive.

I would trade you my day JC - perhaps you'd sing a slightly different tune

up at 4:55 - cold cereal breakfast - 8 mile hike in the 42º morning chill, home by 7:45 to fill up a 60 gal trash can with moss blown out of the surrounding oaks - the yard needs raking, I'd like to loan someone these oak trees for a while, water the plants because while it rained the other day - it's been dry and this sand is like a sieve, at 9 I'm off for a three hour drive to visit local 'hot' spots and lunch with the wife. On the computer then to order the new one for the wife that has Windows 7Pro cause she's finally going to have to give up that old one with the XP that hasn't enough memory to upgrade - diddle around FAA a little then I get to take my one hour nap until 2:30. Up and out pulling weeds, an hour trip then to buy groceries - return home in time to help prepare the "feast" and eat. Help with the laundry - cause the wife has now gone out for her stroll of about 4 miles (we don't travel together - her legs are too short to keep up and she can't quite go the distance yet, although she is working on it.) Then - because it's the day it is - I have my taxes to file - joy of joys - I owe a little less than 200. (yes, I could with that was hundred thousand - but it's only got a . after the 2nd zero.) Now I get to listen to my music for a half hour before SHE returns (have I ever mentioned she is stuck in the '50's/60's and since I'm slightly older - I like the late 40's and up to the mid 50's more). Now - I am off for another 2 hour stroll before my bedtime to finish my book and get some sleep.

I neglected to mention the constant all day lower back pain and the arthritis in my right shoulder. - yes - your day could suck.

I don't go out anymore.
Life is a holiday, every day, from 5.a.m. to 10 pm
No beach
No planes
Just art.

It must be nice to be talking about beaches and pulling weeds today - we still have snow on the ground although it is starting to melt!

No trades Roy....

Chuck, good to see someone else from P-Cola in the forums here.

No chance of me flying right now with the tight budgets but who knows what the future holds.

I neglected to mention that I haven't sold anything on FAA in two months either - yes - life and the day can suck

Mary Bedy

Such a weird story. And the poor families are in Limbo all this time. In fact, the plane if probably in Limbo and not in the southern Indian ocean.

I'm also disturbed by all the crud they are finding floating out there in the middle of nowhere.

By the way, very lovely photo, JC....

There will be conspiracies about that story till the end of time.

I just get a huge kick out of the way the big news channels have been covering the story since day one. I thought you actually had to have a "story" before it went on the news. Not anymore! Some of the scenarios these "experts" come up with are outrageous and pure conjecture. It is sad really. (the whole story and the news coverage)

Thank yall....

Technically, mach sucks, squeezes, burns then blows.... On a similar note, technically hurricanes suck when you look at the bigger picture.

Oh, and for today, rince and repeat except the sunset wasn't as nice, I set up on Orange Beach Alabama rather than the base, I got to the base's beach an hour earlier and got a beach nap before the Blues flew and lastly one of the Blues had a mechanical and had to land so the four ship was a three ship for a while until he took off again....

Suzanne Powers

What is your rank, 1st Lieutenant? Can we see a picture of you in your uniform with your cap on? It all seems very exotic to me all those hugely expensive and technical "ships." Is there much change since you were a pilot? Are they using some of the same ships?

Tony Murray

Typhoons suck…Hurricanes blow!

Roy Erickson

JC - I found that around military bases - art seems to do ok - and then you aren't in the "arm pit" of Florida. Panama City and west is good, south of the Cape (the Gold Coast) is good. In other parts of Florida it's "spotty". Jacksonville nor Jax Beaches do well - but there is a really good show in Mandarin just south that seems to do well, Sarasota/Bradenton is 'ok', and maybe around Tampa/St.Pete/Brandon - maybe (I've not tried to sell there - although I've got one or two of my water color paintings there (bought here - ages ago). Gainesville (Gator town) has a couple of good shows a year.

Rank is civillian Air Force employee, AKA GS.

I retired as a Major.

They do still fly a lot of what I flew though the airplane I train for now replaced the one I flew back on Active duty.

Yeah, Roy, Florida can vary a lot by location how art sells. I am concentrating on Destin as there is a LOT of money in and visiting Destin though so far the PC beach images are selling better but it is a bit early to tell...
