What Do You Love About Saturdays?

I love being able to root around in the construction zone without drawing suspicions or questions from the workers...I get great shots when left to my own devices!
Here are a few I captured today:

Marlene, you rascal! (nice shots though) :-)

Glad you asked, Marlene! Love the color pallets! I love Saturdays because there is free parking at the state capitol, one of my favorite places to go "feel small" and take photos.

Saturday is the sixth day of the week, and the day before Sunday, which is the day of rest to get ready for Monday.... The first day to another great week ( on FAA ) !!

Greg Jackson

I prefer weekends to venture out with the camera because there are usually fewer people out and about, especially if seeking urban images.

Marlene Burns

I agree, Greg!
Frank, today is supposed to be my day of rest but the worker pulled a switcheroo on me and took today off instead of tomorrow!
Pat, that triptych is magnificent..oh, those lines!!
J Morgan, they are so suspicious of me...I'm going to compile a book for the construction company when our THREE years are up!

Patricia Strand

You are braver than I am, Marlene! I will only go where I don't raise any suspicion. I am a meek mouse. Have you considered taking photos of any of the workers for your book? They'd probably get a kick out of that and may even buy a few.

Marlene Burns

If I snapped pix of them, they'd call the sheriff. They are a tad paranoid, as well they should be....they aren't exactly hard workers! lol. I'll blame it on the blinding sun....

I bet those enjoying their Saturday will be checking in late!

What I love about Saturdays and today is Spring is in the air in New Orleans, Louisiana a picture perfect day. I captured this stunning photo at the outdoor farmers market held only on Saturdays. Organic farmers travel into town and sell their organic vegetable and flower and vegetable plants for sale. Many local area Chef's come to the market to purchase organic grown vegetables for a daily special they may create on Saturdays.

Happy Saturday to you Marlene!

And lets not forget Saturday's and Sunday's belong to us and not our employers.....of course for the ones who must work Saturday or Sundays, I wish you a Happy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday on your days off!

Marlene Burns

Thank you, Michael...what a gorgeous image! If that isn't a reason to love Saturdays, I don't know what is! Today, you captured spring!

All week I feel like I am falling behind on the home front...and after 3 weeks of teaching all day and gigging at night (it's spring musical season you know).,,Saturday means a day to catch up! That may not sound fun...but when I get mildly caught up...I feel a sense of accomplishment and feel good doing the fun stuff....like dinner and an orchestra concert with my lovely wife in philly!

So all in all, a good day!

Happy weekend everyone!
Matt

By the way, I love the color palettes Marlene.

Marlene the color pallets are one of my favorites as well, years ago while on the wharfs on the Mississippi River I took a photo of pallets and they where stacked vertical and from the perspective and angle the city skyline of New Orleans was sitting on top of them, I should look for that photo in my archives.

Patricia, great photo of the doors. About two hours ago coming home from the Farmers Market I captured this unique angle of a Historic Church in the Lower Garden District Saint Theresa of Avilia built in 1830's this is one of its two main entrances, its doors and concave entrance...

NOTHING! yes - I yelled - well, that's not exactly true - it's the day before "chicken day" - that's the day we go to Publix for a box of their 8 piece mixed fried chicken - it's the best fried chicken in this town. When you are old and retired - one day is pretty much just exactly like the next, the same number of hours, just a different number and name for the day.

Roy Erickson

Marlene - It does look really cool, your Southwest Urban - but in the thumbnail - perhaps my bad eyesight - looks like someone is trying to stuff an old black frog.

Marlene Burns

LOL, Roy!
In my thumbnail...it looks like a Southwest Kachine.
Art is truly in the mind of the beholder..No comment on your mind, hon.

Marlene - it's been raining for two days - the sun is finally out and the weather is excellent - even for the myriad of frogs and toads that are "doing their thing" with the warm summery spring and plenty of water for tadpoles.

Marlene, I'd like to take this Saturday and put it in my back pocket. It is pouring outside, adding to my miserable mood. At least it isn't snow. I usually like to chill on Saturdays, but since I am semi-retired, I can chill any day of the week I want to. I try to go to Synagogue on Saturday morning. Didn't make it today. For the most part, Saturday is a day of rest for me and mine.

Roy, I want fried chicken.

What I love about Saturday these days, is that now, only about 1/4 of them do I have to go out, set up and peddle my stuff..Whereas,in the recent past, it was a year around exercise.

Saturdays used to be a busy day, & Sunday would be my day of rest. Lately though, I have been doing the opposite.
Is there ever really a full day of rest with an empty head ? Thinking when the weather breaks I will have to lock away this computer to get a break.

I think Saturdays should be spent socializing, & Sundays with family. That would be ideal.
Let the servants do the housework.
Wait..., where did all the servants go ?

I am from the SEC and in general, it is all about football. Plus, basket ball is played on any day. Saturday is for football.

The rest of the year, including winter, Saturday is for the beach.

You're right JC, there are more sports on tv on Saturdays. Years ago hockey was only on Saturday night but that's changed. Our football up here, the CFL, is on tv more on weekends.

As a retiree now, Saturdays are still fun but they lost their importance when I no longer had to work Monday through Friday.

Now on Saturdays, I can avoid shopping malls, grocery stores and other places where the masses go. I still enjoy their consistency for always falling on the weekends.

I found this just last Saturday. Everyone must have been at the mall.

I have read all the comments here, and I am with Roy and JC. Saturdays during football season are for SEC football (Go Gators), and Publix DOES make the best fried chicken! In fact, we had it for dinner tonight, and got the last box. : )

I'm from Texas. It's Crawfish season here, So Saturdays are crawfish and beer or crawfish and margarita days. Anything to drink to keep me cool. LOL I probably should drink more water. We have several festivals that are free around this time of year. I also like to sleep late on Saturdays. At least when the dog is not barking for his morning walk or that cat is not meowing because she wants her litter box cleaned. :0)

Marlene,
Thanks for the tip about construction sites for abstract images. I have been visiting walkways under city bridges, and under such urban delights/decay.

Love going to the Saturday Farmer's Market in my small town. It is not as exciting as the markets in bigger towns but still lots of fresh goodies to buy. I was disappointed there were no tomatoes this morning, and my few plant are not doing that great. Pretty soon they will have fresh peaches, I could just live on those.......

No difference between Saturday and any other day for me. Being retired is great! Get to do what ever the heck you want to do no matter what day of the week it is. Well except Monday when the club is closed. Just hate that! lol

Saturdays are Dumps Day! Woo hoo! This particular Saturday Dumps Day is even more exciting than most Dumps Days because the hay truck needed a new fuel pump and was out of commission for a while. I got it back from the mechanic just in time to make dumps runs today. Maybe Dumps Day wouldn't excite others as much as it excites me, but as my dear old dad (who was born 107 years ago yesterday) was fond of saying, "It all depends on what you compare it to". And Mom groaned every time he said it.

Nothing really. Beaches and stores are crowded. Its hard to do anything. In the evening there are DUI checkpoints and I stay home if I can help it. If I have a gig then that's fine but my music going out week starts on Wednesday and by Saturday I am ready to rest up for Sunday which is always a big Bar-b-que and jam.
If the sky is blue to the east later, which I doubt I want to get some photos of the Carnival Sunshine from the fishing pier. Otherwise I won't bother. The pier is way too crowded on Saturday and so is the beach. Ok I already said that.

But yeah it is good for photographing construction sites but it is still illegal to go on a site here. I prefer very early or just after work stops. I have a few on my rounds.

Marlene Burns

so glad most of you are enjoying your Saturday! Enver, So good to see you, my friend and thank you for your kind words....
Bradford, my whole neighborhood has been a construction site...they can't ban us from walking about, luckily for me!

I like Saturday because I can finish what I didn't finish on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but even better, I can start something new that can be finished tomorrow....maybe!

I already said - but today (Saturday the 21st) was different - we went "fleaing" and had a wonderful hamburger at a local, not chain, hamburger stand. Tomorrow will be the "blah" day - or as we call it here - Chicken Day - fried chicken from the Publix - best fried chicken in town. Not much else to do - maybe create another 'masterpiece' to add to my digital abstracts - or catch up on my reading. Monday I get the stitches in my toe taken out and I supposed decide if I want the same toe on the other foot 'fixed'. Don't know if I can stand another 6 weeks of hobbling around.

I heard some reports of a gator movement across the border of Texas and Louisiana I am planning to go and shoot some of them tomorrow. Hoping I can get some good shots. :) Maybe a few other animals as well. Snakes and birds and other creatures. It is interesting what you find when you look for one subject like that. :)

Marlene finds art in everything, and in some of the strangest places. I think that is the mark of a true artist. It is difficult to believe that so many people ignore the everyday beauty as they pass it. I constantly study the shapes of trees, clouds, sunsets, and reflections on the lakes. I realize that not every artist looks for the same kinds of things, but one of my great fascinations is all the varied and brilliant colors of the sky. When I catch a perfect sunset showing its best work through low hanging clouds, I gaze at it until it has vanished from my sight.
