Nice Pat !
As a reminder to everyone, your first thought is important, but sometimes there are several things that make us happy. Depending on the time, place, stage of life, etc. So, more than one is OK. ;)

I can relate to all the answers above. I suppose the things that make me the happiest is:
1. Having lots of family around, and them being healthy and well.
2. Getting together with friends.
3. Anything related to art. Painting, going to galleries, museums, etc.
4. Sitting by the water is tranquilizing and peaceful.
5. Walking in the woods in Autumn, and sitting around a campfire.
6. Spring time in Texas with all the beautiful blue bonnets & wild flowers.
7. Remembering the happiest times of past loved ones.
These are a few of my favorite things, & things that make me smile.

Mick, It sounds like you are being humorous, but here is a definition.
hap·pi·ness - noun ˈha-pē-nəs : the state of being happy - : an experience that makes you happy
Examples above and below :

On a serious note....to me, happiness is the by product of living as the person you wish to be in your highest moments. All else falls in line, including a spoonful of killer ice cream!

Again with the Ice Cream !!! .....Somebody send some ice cream to that poor deprived gal in AZ !!! If thats all that it would take to make her happy, she would be a cheap date! ... lol
Teresa.. That sounds sweet. I suspect it is not the coffee, but the time shared together.

Hello all HAPPY members, How cool is that Gene, I like that image. What can I say I have eaten chocolate everyday, chocolate and coffee do not affect me, I can eat chocolate before a meal or drink coffee any time of the day or night and it does nothing it has no effect on me. Why I even take Coca Powder and put it on my vanilla, chocolate or strawberry Ice Cream and mix it all together.
@Bell, hello, its the Ice Cream....I have had those days more to even ponder or think about sometimes, I would go to my place inner self and control the pains I too would have daily some days I could control the pains and others the pain took over me, what I always have to remember is I am no longer 30 or 40 but 62 I can not stop the aging process.... All of us who suffer from daily pains is keep focused and think positive, though my body is in remission I am reminded on a daily basis with lymphoney when the pain goes to my lymph nodes, the pain in my bone marrow is a pain unthinkable, I do get occuring pains at times but I control the intensity of pain until I take my meds to stay in remission and laugh the meds are more lethal than the disease itself....lol I will cross over that bridge just like all the others I have in the past, I regularly get checked and my next doctors appointment is of all days April 1st. I can not imagine not able to do what you love doing the most painting null of pain. Hope you are feeling better and able to paint that master piece.....
When I was given the news, I mourned for a week and told myself I could not alter the past family geneology my grandfather from Ireland who came to America in 1913 died of bone cancer. but I would and have altered my future, since 2008 it was as if I was on an everlasting roller coaster ride, I wanted off, but here I am,,,,,I laugh at work everyone knows and I tell them I am a Dead Man Walking and they hate hearing that, I tell them it is what it is I accepted it with open arms and have embraced the bad days and all the good ones I have had, there have been days at work were I am unable to lift a heavy sauce pot and my great co-workers are there to assist me and because I stay so active they have even reminded me to take my meds....now that I have taken early social security, I have worked just about all my life and now my life belongs to me and not my employer and will continue to work part time until I am unable...I no longer drive but ride a bike every day, walk or take public transit......
My Happy avatar is just about when I was informed my body had gone into remission upon my last check up. The human body is just one of the most remarkable gifts of existence but then so is the human brain and a HAPPY FACE! One of the most powerful thing about What Makes You Happy is I am able to take the journey in LIFE and co-exist in this WONDERFUL UNIVERSE!
@Mike S. you are such the creative individual you always have HAPPY avatar's.
@Marlene, your new avatar makes everyone SMILE!

Waking up to the songs of birds. Watching the ever changing clouds as they pass by. Getting a glimpse of a humpback whale splashing in the ocean. walking barefoot on the beach. Feeling warm sand between my toes. Hearing the sound of rain. Feeling the sun on my skin. Holding and hugging my grand kids. Living my dream on Maui. Watching the sunset. Seeing rainbows almost everyday. Taking pictures of a beautiful moment. then recapturing that moment in a painting. Friday night art night in Lahaina. Teaching art.
I could go on and on. But it's time to go. Aloha for now. Enjoy your weekend.
