Looking For Some Critique...

This is my latest drawing. It represents by far the most effort I've ever put into a single image. I'm curious to hear what you think. I'm not looking for accolades or click counts. I'm more curious what you think could be improved upon. Like every artist, I have countless things I could point out about it, but I want to know what I'm not seeing. Thanks!

Technically, it's great but it confuses me as to what is what.

It is very cool.

I like how the dragons wings have been made to be the outside of the crystal ball. (or at least what I thought was a crystal ball upon first viewing)

That was the idea, Tiny. Thanks.
Louise, I suppose some confusion was intended (Is it a sphere or is it a dragon?) Anything outside of that was not. I had someone ask me how I came up with the idea for top of the sphere. I had to explain that it is the wings. Maybe that's some of what you're referring to.

It's a great piece. What my eye is seeing is a paperweight dragon.

This will help others see it better... ;O)

Thanks, Bob. It makes me feel kinda dumb bu I've been trying to figure out how to do that. Can anyone tell me how to embed images within your comment?

Lol. I just went to post it Bob.

Looks like a paperweight to me too. Great work.

The confusion would be up on top where those two spidery looking claws do not meet - or - are missing the glare of glass connecting it together. Over by the pinky too.

Edit: Control C to copy the code ( underneath the description & colors) & Control V to Paste in thread.

...and I just got an answer...

On the right, under the image info, you'll see its URL (link to image). Click it and it highlights, then Ctrl C. Go to your post and Ctrl V . Note that copy and paste will not work-it has to be the keyboard shortcuts.

good.. that save me some typing ;O)

... so many helpful hands....

Nice hand work by the way!

BTW when you paste the link to the comment it will be just HTML code.... but if you want to change the size (as I did above) you will see among the code a width and height values.. I just double them..

Thanks for the helpful tip, Louise.
Thank you, Glenn.

It's very good, there's a certain ambiguity over the form of the object in the hand which is unnerving in a way that reminds me of mannerist work. I admire it for the deep attention it exhibits, not just in the detail but consistency of technique and observation. It's interesting to see this the context of your other work too, where a shift in emphasis is hinted at, you're a gifted draughtsman with a good insight into the linear aspect of forms which you've combined with a modelled technique, quite a rare and difficult approach. One area where you might consider paying more attention is the application of highlight, which I think you already use to good effect through your observation skills.

Thank you very much for taking the time, Mick. Those are some thoughtful and insightful comments.

If it is about control, magic, and power... I will cut bottom of image to switch and emphasize on what is prime: the dragoon and fingers.
Square format will serve the best.
Some people will say there is appearance of snake as opposite force to the dragoon.

I know dragons aren't most people's thing, and so generally that's all they will see is a pretty dragon. For me, the idea behind the image is expressing the ability to observe, form and control your personal demons.

Joe,

Here's the way to add images to your discussion:

Here's how you add your images to any discussion:
1. Go to your Artist page, and then to Galleries and then to the image you want to include in your thread.
2. In the lower right hand corner of your image, that shows how the art can be ordered, framed, canvas, etc, in the bottom is a box, just under the color pallette, click on that box.
3. With the box now highlighted, do a "CTL C"
4. Return to the discussion thread that you want to add the image to and do a "paste" or a "CTL V"

5. You're almost there! The image will show up after you hit "submit"
6. Extra credit!!! You can change the size of your image by changing the 2 numbers after the "=" sign, width & height, but do so proportionally so you don't distort the image.
