Anyone Ever Ever Done This ..... Redid Their Own Art And Put It Back Up On Faa??

Question and it's pretty simple has anyone ever took out some of their artwork, not really satisfied with it, redo the art piece and put it back up on FAA?? I have couple pieces I may remove but redo them maybe and put them back up? Is that normal for artists here to do?

I've done it. Owen, you answer to only yourself.......and if you see a change is needed, then do it !!........You need to be confident.

i'm doing it right now. i have many images that are either too bad to print, or images that never sold. so i've been re doing them. or repairing them.

I often modify my work. I like to let them hang in my studio for a few months and really looks at them. You always eventually see your mistakes that way. Also, as soon as you see them online, you notice anything that needs a little sprucing up. That is very normal.

I do it all the time but not because I was not satisfy with it. Lately I been adding paper cutting with my watercolors and I upload both versions and I think they are different works both can stand on its own.

Yes, you might spot something that just isn't right and want to tweak it. I've done it.

Yup I do it too. Have deleted a lot of stuff over the time I have been here.

Yep, also started adding variations with the same image...which I use to not be a fan of, but like Alfred said - I think the variations can stand on their own.

right now I'm more concerned about getting my art right before I get excited on selling anything to be honest! Don't get me wrong it's great to get that one sale, but right now I'm at that point where I realllly need to work and focus on improving my art!! Love networking with other aritsts here!! thanks!!

Most of mine are not fit to print so I'm just letting those off since I do not have the originals or in two cases have destroyed the original and the other am trying to re-work them.

Very normal. In fact your gallery will learn to take them away from you - lol.

That said, then learn also to move on. If you've improved significantly then redo it, so you can see what your public thinks of your changing.

what do you mean by "gallery will learn to take them away from you"? Meaning it the artwork is dull, boring, not exciting they'll pass my gallery up --- be honest so I am aware of this in the future!! lol

I have an entire book, 98 pages of Feral Coot Art, that I want to change.

I now, want to have a more consistent look, in graphics and treatment.(I've learned so much about digital presentation since this initial effort)

It will be a daunting task, if I ever get to it.

The OP is invalid. You have "normal" and "artist" in the same sentence.

I also do it all the time. Even if I already uploaded it I still make snippet of corrections here and there on some of my images until Im satisfied with it.

I've done it many many times... primarily because of ignorance before attempting to upload images with resolution high enough to be printed. This has been a learning experience for someone who is new to it.

I've also found through experience that if you do something more than once, one of them will be better than the other and it's usually after the first try. It's always been the way of the world to be inspired by something and then to improve on it. After you have a "vision", it's much easier to see how to do it better when you have the actual result in front of you.

I've done it lots of times ... I'm always learning new tricks or getting new software ... and if I feel like an image has good bones or tells a good story, and I can improve on it ... I do!!

For best results what's a great resolution to use for uploading images 300dpi? What I've been doing it taking pictures of my artwork -- because they're too big to fit my scanner lol than I upload them on my computer, work on them in Adobe Photoshop 7 (yeess the old version) until I get them right and have been uploading them onto my FAA gallery....is that also a good way to fix images also?

300dpi is 1:1, when i scan things in i do it at 1200dpi, it's huge and has to be brought down, but it helps it to be future proof, and it maintains tight detail. for a large piece, i scan it in chunks, then stitch it. some scanners have removable lids making this easier. photoshop is designed for fixing images.

thanks my scanner only fits up 8x10 pieces but like I mentioned I do just take photos of the artwork in a dpi like U suggested and upload them onto my computer than work on them in photoshop ---- I guess those graphic art classes I took in the 90s paid off, eh?? lol

All the time. Quite often I'll revisit a photograph and either I notice something I should have corrected in the first place, or find a better editing technique to try that results in a "better version" of the original upload.

Owen -
I meant that when I first started uploading images to FAA I was uploading images that I captured in a low resolution, so printing them would not be too good either. I had also reduced the already small image dimensions. Prior to joining FAA I had no idea I would one day be trying to sell prints of them. I belonged to other websites that had restrictions on file size because they were sure some people in the world were still using slow dial-up modems and the sites were meant for sharing images and info... not for printing.

I believe I've read that the printing department can change the printing (PPI) resolution for printing purposes as well as other printing property requirements. For quality purposes, take pictures of your art and photography at the highest resolution the camera offers. FAA allows up to 25MB of data in the image file to be uploaded at this time. Some members would like to see an even higher limit by FAA.

I have a few that I've improved with minor tweaks and I want to re-upload them now, but I think I'll wait a week or two. I hope the images disappearing issue has been resolved, but I don't want to chance editing existing images until I stop seeing that missing images thread pop up... (Owen, I think that might have been what Mary Ellen was referring to.)
