1. A lot of smaller coffee shops and cafes have community boards where you can post
2. Grocery stores have community boards
3. Churches have them
4. Community Centers
5. Private Clubs (usually have to be a member first)
These are a few I have used.
You can also print off PDF sales sheets (posters) straight from images in your gallery. (interesting that I can get sales sheets from you gallery)
no idea. since i rather the world see it, rather than a couple. but i suppose you can make tickets for a grocery store, church etc. you would have to get permission from some. and check that it's still there weekly. handing out cards to people you know might help. i'm not a social person, so i don't know off hand other than to maybe buy ads in local papers and sending out that way.
I wouldn't do that. you should use your network of friends, family numbers, co-workers. have them give them out to people they know than just hoping some strangers would pass by to noticed it and even buy it.
marketing takes a long time of constant exposure. it won't happen over night. you have to constantly build up people on all the sites you advertise on. and constantly make new things, always send things out to advertise. it takes a long time to build that up.
it's not about changing their mind, it's about the wanting to click on the avatar because it either looks good or interesting. if it's a dull image, something from vacation, a cat, cut off, sideways, etc - it's one less reason why people may click on it. i know of people who wanted to be my friend on facebook - just because of the avatar.
I agree with, Mike, people want to see from your Avitar who they are buying from . As for outside marketing, I've been focusing on platforms that naturally get me to the top of search engines: LinkedIn, About.me, and Crevado.com seem to work best. Use detailed tagging and keywords on those platforms the type of photography you do. On about.me for example my stats show about 600 views per week, many click through to my artists website. If you want to know more DM me cuz I don't have these threads sent to my email ( unless it's my thread ).
Yeah I forget Mike you aren't any type of people person. Babies aren't too bad well unless you pick them up just after they have eaten and it can get a bit messy. Though I must confess I have yet to attempt to photograph a baby.
babies in person for the most part, they are cute and playful... but otherwise its no different then pulling out your wallet full of baby pictures. not many like to see that except the really old... since they forgot what babies looked like. for me i use the mustache avatar, Michael Thadeus Savad, my alter ego, i dress up different each month set to a theme, the mustache stays the same in all of them.
I have been trying the flyer route as well as business cards. If there is a "board" in a supermarket... just go ahead and post. Other places you probably will have to ask. I believe that it can't hurt to try ALL avenues one can in order to generate sales. I have to frequently go back to some of the supermarkets, though, cause other people take the flyers down so they can put their's up! So I constantly go back and check and then repost. Haven't gotten any calls with them yet, but you never know! I also try to sell "portrait" work, but the winter is a very bad time of year to do portraits. Waiting for the Spring and then I will be on full force to sell that venue.
