Jeffery- neither did I, until I learned how to use keywords in my profile to be found. LinkedIn is a powerful search engine in its own regard, and when a person does a google / yahoo search for you it is top of the list. I have all of my rights managed contacts there, for example ....
Here is my profile, let's connect!

By the way, if your profile address ha not been updated and is just a bunch of numbers your not goona be found as easy.

Thanks Frank. I am going to look onto this a little more tomorrow. I want to do more promotion top businesses. I have been pretty much ignoring my Linked in account for a few years.

I think this site, and many others like it create a gap by not guiding people setting up the accounts from the "get go"!..If you want to promote art, for example, it is important that you consider how you answer the profile questions about your interests ..It is important to express your interests as they relate to the art or photography world...not as you as an individual...I think that is one of the problems I encountered when I opened my account...the sites should from the beginning, ask questions that specifically target the purpose of your profile...to seek a job in the business world, or to promote something, in this case art as example...then the questions you answer would be specific to that goal..I keep getting suggestions to be a art director for a company, a gallery director and other connections that are completely diverse to my purpose...I think Linked In is much better suited for people who are seeking employment opportunities rather than for someone who is promoting a website...And if you are going to do so, you need to make sure you keep that goal in mine when you create your profile...

Abbie - I see you on Linked all the time. .... Amszing where you get your content. By the way, I dumped my group so that I can better leverage my company page - and figure it out.
Judy - I once thought like you until I went to a Linked workshop and now I'm getting quality invites daily from search. It's all about keywords in your profile. Go to wordless.net/create. Past your profile text in the box and hit "go". That will show you what search words are being used to find you. Many people at first think Linked is an emoloyment tool, but it's hidden secret is that it's not who you know ( your connections ) but who they know ( they're connections ).
Edit. That is wordle.net/create Darn that auto correct !!

I will check out the links...as always I appreciate your suggestions! Honestly, I would think if LinkedIn was serious about helping people maximize their success rate on the site , that they would incorporate that feature/keywords etc into the site automatically...not leaving it to individuals "tech saavy" skills to achieve results. PS..Frank, check out my post ...I created a RebelMouse account...It is under construction..and I have not publicly launched it yet.

@ Bradford ... " Thanks Frank. I am going to look onto this a little more tomorrow. I want to do more promotion top businesses. I have been pretty much ignoring my Linked in account for a few years. " How are things going, by the way ???
@ Judy - Just catching up on my threads here ... where is that post you want me to look at, is there a link?

Marci - Hi! Good to 'talk' with you again !!
If you read through the two articles I posted in this thread would be a good start ... then come back here with any questions.
You are already doing the very basic by posting your blog and involved in discussions ( I've see you in the Fine Art groups ), and the only other thing is to slowly develop more quality connections that are people in our industry. Most of my connections are either people I know you who've connected with me through my group involvement. Recently I've learned how to better use keywords in my profile so people find me through LinkedIn search ... now I'm getting more invites than inviting.

Looking at your profiles, remember, LinkedIn is it's own powerful search engine like Google, Yahoo, and Duck Duck Go. Your "Experience" headings are actually keyword search terms. So don't bundle up your sills into one heading bud spread it out. Example what I've done: Fine art photography, Event Photography, Chicago Photographer, .....

I was on LinkedIn for a while but left after reading about the class action lawsuit against them for hacking into users' email accounts and spamming their contacts.
I'd heard of sites like this making it difficult to close accounts, and given other bad behavior I figured that was more likely than average, so I replaced all my profile information with bogus info, waited a couple days for it to propagate through all their servers and databases, then closed the account.

Hi Frank,
Thank you for the advice. I have updated my profile. Perhaps when you have the time you could check it out again. I have made it a little more specific!
Have a wonderful weekend! Liz

Fran - welcome !!
John Ayo - thanks for sharing this ! I've never heard of this, and with all the business and professional people on the platform I'm sure it will be cleaned up. Please don't think I'm trying to defend LinkeedIn, just my gut feeling from spending a lot of time on the platform.

By the way, I've noticed with Google search that my Linkedin Company page is the first listed. Do you have a company page?

Thanks for the link Frank, looks very useful! I've been meaning to try and do more with LinkedIn again as I've neglected it somewhat recently, in part due to not being that sure how to get the most out of it and it part due to getting lots of spam.

James -- thanks for sharing your concerns. With all the changes to online platforms it becomes hard to navigate which is the best place to spend our valuable time and information.
A good place to start, if I may suggest, is posting and commenting in the Pixels group on LInkedIn that I shared the link to in my last post here. This way every action you take your connections see if they spend time in their LinkedIn feed each day. These should be outside prospects compared to the more closed prospecting we have here on the FAA forum. I have seen a tremendous increase in my Linked profile views as well as new buyers .... even if they subscribe to my e-newsletter they become a buyer because they are now interested in what I have to say.
The next step would be to make some blog posts on the LinkedIn publishing platform, as every time you do this all of your connections get notified either by email or their notifications flag on their menu bar ( depending how they have their settings ).
Hope this information is helpful to you!

I haven't had luck on LInkedIn for my photography, but I get a lot of folks wanting to hire me for my "day job" (chemist) on LinkedIN.
Thanks Frank, I've just joined the group to see how it pans out! I used to use LinkedIn a lot more in the past for contacting picture researchers, editors and the like rather than for art related contacts as that was where most of my work was back then. I get the impression with all the changes in the publishing industry over the last few years a lot of those contacts seem to spend most of their time elsewhere, the activity in several of the groups has dropped considerably and some no longer exist. As they say, the only constant is change.....!
Yeah, James, photo editors and buyers in the publishing industry come and go, but the great thing about LinkedIn is that wherever they move you have their updated profile and email address. Often times I'll use the "endorse" tool as sort of a nudge instead of a follow-up phone call ... because they get notified of my endorsement in their email inbox. As far as art related contacts, most top-level corporates are now on LInkedIn reading the news from LinkedIn Pulse... so they glance at their updates feed.
Welcome back to LInkedIn !!

"What’s more, a quarter of LinkedIn’s active users are in the top income quartile, while almost half say they tend to buy brands they see advertised. In both cases, this puts LinkedIn ahead of Facebook – giving some indication as to why the social networking giant is after a bigger slice of this premium audience." http://wp.me/pmEwb-19j
If you're not following Sandy Carter, at least on Twitter, you're missing out on one person who really knows the 'right' way to use social media.
