Dead Thread Do Not Use Image Promotion # 9 - 1 Per Day Reading & Following Rules Mandatory

DISCUSSION GROUP FOR MMI MEMBERS ONLY

ATTN: ALL NEWBIES
If you post in discussion thread PRIOR to PROMOTING/COMMENTING ON ALL ABOVE YOUR POST FOR PAST 48 HOURS....your post will immediately be DELETED....

You may come back and post again AFTER YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE RULES.....NO WARNINGS ON DELETING YOUR POST.

FOR REGULAR MEMBERS WITH PROLONGED ABSENCE.. You must PROMOTE ON SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMENT ON ALL ABOVE YOUR POST with the SM choice indicated in the post itself for example: "great work, love the lighting, g+ " FOR PAST 24 HOURS

We have a "Very High" rating on FAA and work gets noticed and SOLD... MANDATORY TO READ & FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS

If you can't keep up with this and commit to the rules then this isn't for you...This thread is for image promotion! Here are the rules:

Post a COMMENT/REPLY with ONE (1) IMAGE LINK... out of your URL line in your browser (or Address Bar), then paste it here in a comment.

DON'T post the links that brings up the photo previews as they make the discussion thread very slow to load as it grows in length.

In return, click through to the images before you and vote for them with a comment as well.

Everyone wins with more traffic, as the more you comment and vote, the more others will comment and vote back on your work, and the higher in the search rankings you'll go. Also..everyone loves promotion i.e. : g+,stbl, twitter, fb...feel free to do that too if you want and it will come back to you!

"COMMENT" and "SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTE" on everything posted BEFORE your post, that's mandatory! You may also "like", "fave" etc if you wish, not mandatory...

Post your FAA link *ONLY* (URL starts- http://fineartamerica.com/) - no Pixels.com links please

DO NOT POST more than once a day.

BACK CLICK at least 48 hours worth of posts when you first join AND 24 hours for Regular Members coming back after a break.

Click through on all the posts between your current post and your last post when you come back daily (or only 24 hours if a longer time has elapsed).

Please DO NOT use this thread as a place to request votes in contests OR to air personal grievances.... That's not what this discussion is intended for. Thank you!

To clarify further: please don't confuse this with the rules for the GROUP, this is a discussion thread only...

Good Saturday morning all! I've gone back my 24 hours. A couple of you I had to go into your gallery for another one to promote, since I'd done the ones you had posted already. I've got 15 art boards now as well as the others, so I will often pin you to more than one. I always like/fave and promote on at least one SM platform. I'm pretty sure that I didn't miss anybody, but if you think that I did...let me know.

Don't know how long I will be able to be daily...will miss at least one day next week because of flights.

A joy to see all your work again! Here's mine (yes...I am still lost in the desert!)

I almost forgot to post today. My head is in an overwhelming creative place - happens sometimes - makes the technicalities of posting and listing shoved way back in my mind. Re-posting a fave again. I'm really working on expanding my subject matter. That's one thing you all have really taught me - even at 63 I can still grow and expand. Hopefully one day it will mean I actually sell a print on FAA!

Douglas and other new bloggers. If you add site meter to your blog you can track where your readers are coming from and much more. It is rather exciting to see so many countries represented - I used to try to keep track but stopped around 50. I even once came across my blog in Russian online. If you post at least twice a month on your blog you will see readers grow. Sitemeter will tell you how many page views you get too and more.

Everyone is running low on new stuff! Don't feel bad about reposting earlier posts - this group changes and grows so often that there's always some who haven't seen it before. It's hard keeping up with trying to create new work, list previously unlisted work, and searching for images on photos.com - I spend hours going thru thousands of images to come up with 50 - that's how I got over 13,000 images, plus keeping up with this thread and all the social media…and then the holidays too! It will all be worth it if I can ever crack the buyer ceiling here…or attract a sales fairy!

Anyway here's something fairly new….for Thursday

I wonder if there is a place where time is thrown in a big pile...(Note to self: after I go into the Big Skip I'm going to find that place and steal time back...) Going back to catch up and get into the groove for 2014..

Maya, I did read your feature. Congrats and I love how you described yourself and your genre....Now an even bigger fan...

Wonderful pieces... Boy have I missed it... So motivated to get back out there...

Maureen- When I saw Marks beautiful mushroom in the forest shot, I thought of how you could do your whimsical magic (Alice and Wonderland maybe?) work to a similar piece.....

Jane- Pinned when I realized you don't have G+ activated.

Amy- watching you grow in your own genre has been fun for me.. Your digital art is really becoming an entity. Love the Walking the Tracks..

Lee- Bar hopping, photo road trip... YOU ARE KILLING ME!!!! pssst, call me next time....

Here is my ode to your road trip Lee....Took it the other night...

Denise! Welcome back! I'm only just barely back myself! Love the Pit Stop! I have the final stretch from Williams, AZ (been that far from Michigan Ave in Chicago all the way across) to the end in California. When I get there I WILL call! Can do a little barhopping!

I saw that we were shooting the same moon the other night! I wonder just how many in this group were doing that??!!

After roaming through my picture folders I found a few more. So, for the next five days I have a new inventory. Yeah!!!! The first I am posting today is a picture of The Rosecliff, one of the Newport Mansions. Funny enough during our tour of these incredible mansions, we learned that some of the owners called them summer cottages. I think it gives the word cottage a new dimension. I digitally altered the photograph a little bit hoping to achieve the look from years gone by. If you wonder who the person on the stairs is... I planted my husband in front of the building to put it into perspective.

Nite, nite off to bed now.

Ahh you busted me Kandy.. I actually saw Jean do that on some of her pieces and thought it looked better than my water mark.. Thanks for the nice welcome back you all..

Glad we all survived Thanksgiving.. had an eye opener though.. Thanksgiving dinner takes about 18 hours ( like the cloud conversion), then they're consumed in 12 minutes...Football halftimes take twelve minutes.. This is not a coincidence...

Hooray Barbara I did it! I never knew how to open multiple windows. I paged thru my whole Mac for Dummies and didn't find it. Googled it and discovered I had to go to file and click on new window! How easy was that? This is my second Mac. total of about 7 years and I never knew how to do it!!

Now I wanted to do this to show you all this!

This piece (not mine) sold today. What it is is just one layer of my piece - same exact image layer - these cosmos nebula type pics are usually put out there by the US Government agencies and all that type of work like from the National Archive etc is free to use - public domain. So anyone can use these images. But this artist just reprinted one of them, that's all - anyway it sold today.
http://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-hatchery-the-vault.html

This is another piece that sold today...
http://fineartamerica.com/featured/dream-catcher--spirit-of-the-white-wolf-carol-cavalaris.html

This was my lisiting for today -
http://fineartamerica.com/featured/spirit-of-the-wolf-maureen-tillman.html

I used the same nebula image a few weeks ago when I created this piece and the spirit of the wolf is of the same "style" as my Spirit of the Wolf piece. So I really don't have much hope at this point that my piece will sell and yet I see these 2 that sold today and I wonder why not? It's just a matter of getting seen by the right person I guess. Maybe if I could meld those 2 buyers together I might come up with someone who just loves and has to have this piece!

Glad you are back Denise! I have used mushrooms with my fairy art on ETSY occasionally. I have been collecting images of bright red orange mushrooms I might play with some day!

Sabine I have never been out East but one place I always wanted to see was Newport and the mansions. They WERE summer cottages for the rich families who had homes in New York City mainly. Their houses there often encompassed an entire city block!

Be back later.

Good Morning Everybody,

started out early today as my husband is finally arriving in the Germany. I haven't seen him for 2 months. He had to stay in Vancouver and look after the business when I left in October. Our friends call him hurricane Fred. That means my quiet hours at the computer are over and this whirlwind will keep me and mom busy.

@ Steven, nice summer cottage you have there. Don't you think it's a tad too small??????

@ Barbara, it would be good for my husband to have a house of that size. That keeps him out of my hair as there is a lot of repair work to do. That would really keep him busy for a while and I can look after my photography.

@ Maureen, we've been to all of them except one that wasn't open to the public. It took us two days. The good thing is once you bought the ticket you can come back any time. They don't expire. It's a great tour and the houses remind me a lot of some of the European castles. Well worth seeing it.

Here is my posting for today in case hurricane Fred keeps me busy all day!

Taken of what used to be the courthouse (now a gift shop) in old Mesilla, New Mexico, (where we live and I take lots of pics of the southwest from) the place where they tried Billy the Kid and where Sheriff Pat Garret shot him DAID....great story....poor kid, he was 21 and very misunderstood....was left by his Mom and Step Dad at about 14-15 in New Mexico, he never knew who is Dad was, he was originally from New York, Irish immigrants...hard days and hard times...had to learn to fend for himself...so gunslinging to stay alive in those days was a prerequisite...hard life...the building is as it looks today with the exception of what I wrote on the wall and the image I layered in of the "Kid"

Not to bore you with my hubby stories. But this is a special one! I was looking forward to getting my camera. He brought it from Canada. OH MAN! Oh just me again. Actually lamenting a sale this afternoon - on ETSY…..the second of my most favorite pieces that sold recently but that I really didn't want to sell but wanted to post to show my range and attention to detail…. so I put a high price on them and didn't expect anyone to buy it at that price, or I figure if they are willing to pay that they must love it as much as I do! ….. so I was shocked today to see this sale at $100 of my piece I call Psyches's delight - she's been on my bedroom wall for about 4 years I think. So anyway I figured I should send the buyer a note of thanks even tho my heart was broken…..until I saw his username and email ….. I'm glad my Psyche has her eyes covered but that's probably what the buyer likes too …..oh eewwwwww… his names are "sadisterotic" and "erotichrist" ……… oh it sickens me to think what my poor Psyche is going to be "exposed" to the rest of her days! This is the sale announcement from ETSY - you may have to scroll down a bit. Oh man…… so now I have to compose a thank you note …….

Funny reminds me of an item I sold on ebay once...it was a Wolpertinger...animal made of different animal parts...wanted to get rid of it, was bought in Germany by my hubby, any way it always freaked me out....and much like you, I put a high price on it so he would be happy about selling it (he was)....but the person that bought it's name was "necrovamp"....that creeped me out even more!!!!!!!!! I have never forgotten that, you probably won't either...LOL!

I am posting early for tomorrow - I hope to get to bed earlier. This is different for me here but a theme I like to return to again and again. I loved playing marbles when I was a little girl in the 1950s. I would take my bag and skip on down the block to where the "big boys" were playing and ask to play too. I'm sure they thought I was an easy mark but for some reason I knew I could learn from them. Then after, probably with fewer marbles in my bag, I would skip back home and play with my usual same age group and win enough to get my bag full again. So I like to use marbles with the "play for keeps" theme because if we were low in our bags us younger ones, we would not always play for "keeps"

Good Morning, I thought I quickly have a look and vote/comment on your postings.

@ Barbara your story about the Wolpertinger is hilarious. Yup, it's a German thing however, only in Bavaria. WE the rest of Germany doesn't even know how to spell the word. The Bavarians are a bit different .... to say the least! It would give me the heebee jeebees too if Fred would bring this home. BTW congratulations on your sale!

@Jean - thank you so much for the commentary today with your photo - as the mother of a gay son, I so appreciated you posting this and reading the Pope's sentiments..
@Douglas - I noticed that you dedicated your photo today to Lincoln - did I miss something - is he ok?
@Steven - hope you are ok too - you mentioned "struggling" - sending good thoughts your way

I taught a painting workshop yesterday for solstice and just putting the finishing touches on my demo painting that I will post for tomorrow, but for today, here is another new little piece that I don't think most of you have seen yet

I too appreciate your verbiage with your art Jean... however, I do love what the Huffington Post posted today..

None

aaaannnnyhow, as most of you know, I do not celebrate the traditional Christmas you all do but wish you all the happiness with your family and friends on this day... As a gift, I did promise to take a friend and her cancer ridden mother to midnight mass... Should make Jean and my long past mother proud.....

So is Lincoln gone for good? Or just a holiday thing?

Went out to shoot for winter solstice tonight.. I will one day learn to get off the cliff once I get the shot and before it is too dark... Took a beating after this shot...That is why I have Lee on my bucket list to shoot with.. Great shots and no bruises...and lot s of taverns...

Tonight's sunset long exposure from THAT cliff with a view of Catalina Island...

I thought I posted this a couple minutes ago but it got swallowed up somewhere. By the way Denise, Barbara told me Lincoln sort of followed Jordan away deciding to invest his time with her discussion. Who knows maybe he'll miss us so much he'll come back.

Evening whoever's out there! Barbara I have a suggestion. I think all of us could use some time to get back to listing in our shops so we can post new work here. How about if we keep the thread open for chat and keeping all informed on what we are doing art-wise and posting if you wish but mainly preparing to get back to it full steam in a month or so. But mostly creating and restocking so we can post lots of new work here when everyone is back up and running.

Jane See

Maureen, thank you for bringing that up. I am about to do just that. Over the last few months I have stretched myself thin to such an extent that I am not able to create and be content. I have put some thought about it. I need this short break to get back on track before I lose sight of where I am going... It is a good time to restock and evaluate.

Jane See

Denise, Lee, Amy, Jean, thank you so much... how could I have missed that 'drop down menu' :)

Denise Dube

Bummed about Lincoln... I was on that thread too but she has someone else managing it now. Different vibe, so I dropped out of it...

I understand your concern Maureen, but ending the threads activity completely for a month would be devastating to our rating.. I took a couple weeks off to get myself back on track.. I think if we all just come and go as we need it is much better for the rating.. Especially when most of us have that need at different times...My concern ifs that if those of us that move on to another thread to keep our "activity" active , may not return back... Just my two cents... Ill go along with whatever happens, but that's my penny thought,....

Night all... beautiful work....

About Lincoln...I never bump into him on FAA anymore, but see that he is very active on FB. Perhaps like all of us from time to time, he just needed a change of pace and face(s).
I would prefer that we kept the promotion going and those who need to step back for a while do it. I just stepped back in! I see this morning that we have a new member hitting the promotions hard to get going. My vote is for keeping it on track with whoever is able. My break sure helped me!

Greetings and Good Day to you also Agus!

Denise...I think that we would have a ball shooting together! Will call when I get to the end of the Mother Road!

@ Group whom ever would like to take a break, by all means do so....when you come back it's the 24 hour rule for the regs...no biggie...but I agree with Denise, if we just stop what we are doing, we will lose out top rating....We are still in slot 3 as far as rating go...and that's pretty darn good as we are a small group compared to the others....

Whom ever would like to take a break, go ahead, state that you are going to do that and when you plan to return....then just drop in when you want to say hello, post a note, tell us what you've been up to chat..if you want to or not...and then come back at the end of your break refreshed and ready to go at it again! How's that?

Barbara Chichester

Denise, thanks for fixing Frank's link..

@Group...PLEASE READ

Since I am going to be traveling for the most part of 3 weeks after Christmas...I would appreciate it if all of you will self monitor so we don't get "slackers" jumping in without doing their bit with no reciprocity and whatever else you think might be needed.... I will be on for the most part, but just in case? So, email me if you think I need to do something about what is going on in my absence...I will not be out that much hopefully...

FYI: for those of you that do not understand what the group rating is about....it's not about my ego, it's about YOU, getting bumped up the ladder in FAA's book, regarding your work being placed on page 3 for example, instead of page 15 in a search? It's about SALES, VOTES and COMMENTS with FAA, that's how their computers and bots determine where you work is placed in the rung....so make sure you comment, vote and post the SM you promoted your fellow artist's work on, in the comment. So it's official....VOTING IS A REQUIREMENT along with the comment and SM promo....most of you have been doing that anyway as well as faving, so I know it's not a big deal...but the Newbies coming in need to follow that. I am adding it into the rules above..

@ Group...If you want to send me your personal email addresses so that I may compile a list for the regs in here, I am happy to do so....I know Douglas did that some time back but I did not receive a copy of that list as promised, don't know if anyone die....Douglas...just saying.... :)

Hi everyone - I'm not going anywhere special for the holidays, will be around. Just thought everyone else would be taking a break. Glad to keep on here with Denise, Lee and whoever else is around to keep our ratings up. I did take a break from Pinterest promo and Social Media promo because I kept getting skipped over and it was very frustrating. I see this morning that on the social media thing, no one except Robyn has posted in there since my last post many days ago.

Well everyone I'm gonna be here as much as possible. I'm just low on work and I don't think you all want to keep voting on the same pieces. I suppose with just a few of us there won't be much to comment on from anyone. Tomorrow night I am spending Christmas eve at my daughter's boyfriends parents house with all his siblings, grandkids etc. At least my daughter will be there. I'm happy she is in love and I have high hopes for this relationship of hers so I'll do whatever it takes. I hate feeling like the old woman who had no place else to spend Christmas eve so I'm tagging along with her. It is so different then when I had a home and family who I hosted for the holidays to having no place to go. We are going to the Milwaukee area Christmas day to see my son and grandsons. Life is always changing, one has to keep up or fall by the wayside! I'm really going to have to work hard to get work listed but I'll still probably just always be one step ahead - back later.

Thanks Barbara that was very sweet of you.. We actually have been together 27 years (ugh) decided to annoy the Duck Dynasty fans..lol

. I am sooooo confused? Maya, I SM all of your post, but I also feel the same about being skipped (and often) on SM by the same people repeatedly... Is there a way to verify who SMs you here on FAA or do you have to go to each SM site? I just keep seeing the same handful of people when I do take the time to look.. I have to admit I am just now catching on to the retweeting and repining thing, but I always SM from here...

Well, since not many people are looking right now and some may find this offensive. BUT, it really isn't because I shot it outside a cathedral in York England.. So, remember, its the Saints name and it is a real sign and it is religious.. .I promise no photoshop! Barbara, I don't deserve a mean email for this because it is...religious....Its in the middle of a tourist center!...Thank God I did not have to do a report on this St. in Catholic school, I was in trouble enough.... ok, enough liability disclaimer:

Nobody here has to SM or even comment if you don't want to...I know not everyone appreciates my humor....

Denise! Guess that I missed something (or else thought it was already a done deal...my bad) Haven't been on FB much lately (if I missed it there) as it is tiring and irritating most of the time! Any-hooo...Congrats...best wishes...hugs!

I'll be here until the weekend...that's when my gang is getting together. Then I'll just take a day off.
I started going thru the image files from 2010 (no that isn't a typo) so there will be some more new stuff soon LOL! Just couldn't get to it when the studio was still open and now it is taking me a while to dig thru it all. Not to mention the mega gb"s that I continue to shoot!

I'll be back on the SM thread as soon as somebody new posts, Maya. Yes we had a couple of skippers there and on the pinterest thread, but oh well...the majority are cool!

Slackers are NOT my competition anyhow...it's the butt-busters that will beat me out!
Denise...now I am googling!

Also, as for the SM promoting...it takes a while for the counters to show on the g+, SU, and P as they go thru a different place (yes, I am sure there is a technical term but can't spout it off right now) to get to us...whereas the likes and faves are instant since they are thru FAA.

Have a great break and visitation with family Barbara.

Everybody...Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and happiness and blessings to all!

Lee, it was in July, I forgot to change my status until yesterday...Romantic eh?

We are your harem Steven....

Now you have me more confused Lee.. Are we supposed to SM on all of the SM sites for each post? I have been only picking one SM site for each post.. My big supporters get a few sites.... Ghad, I haven't even had a drink yet today....

Ill save you the google Lee... I should put it on the page with the picture but, that would be too mature..

Saint Margaret Clitherow is the patron of martyrs, businesswomen, and converts. She was raised Anglican but converted to Catholicism around 1574. Saint Margaret Clitherow was notorious for sheltering priests and permitting Mass to be celebrated on her property. All of her children entered the religious life and she was imprisoned numerous times for her religious activity. St. Margaret Clitherow's feast day is March 26th.

And she was with child with that pressure death!

Ah well congrats late! I got married 40 years ago...but don't really shout it out there much anymore! No...I don't know what that has to do with anything either...perhaps I should have that glass of wine now!

Read about that poor womans death...u-g-l-y...

All I meant about the SM sites was that it takes the counters a while to catch up on FAA since they have to go through their own home bases first.

I don't drink! Sometimes I think I should but watched it kill my younger sister slowly …sometimes tho I wish I had a crutch like that. Holidays are hard for me. Denise this is what I posted on your Saints image comments - I thought I was here. Please if possible can you take that comment off there - if not I'll just have to suffer the humiliation!!!…….

….Oh Denise - ya think the nuns would of got it? I suppose - I remember in 6th grade I had to give a talk which I always dreaded and in front of the class instead of the word introduce I said intra-doush and the boys (mostly) in the class and the nun broke out laughing - I was so upset I had no idea what was so funny. Congrats on the marriage! Your obscure unknown saint reminds me that my abusive father in his later years used to send me cards saying he was paying for nuns or monks to pray to St. Dymphna for me - because she was the saint for the mentally ill. He was a real saint himself - when my ex left me in 2006 my dad kept asking me how I was going to support myself "because I had no marketable skills" . Things like that haunt me and will until I start selling more - if I ever do. Be back soon…..

I'm a Catholic but am continually shocked and sickened at what the church has done over the centuries supposedly in Christs name! The parish I went to elementary school in had a bad priest. He messed with my younger sister. The church moved him around to 9 parishes in 14 years - we had him for 3 years. He was finally sent to prison about 10 years go as an old man.

As far as listing a bunch, it seems that many groups administrators are taking a break like Barbara and asking that we don't post until the end of January so I guess I will just create, create, create and come Feb I'll have to list a bunch of work.

Looked up Saint Margaret - omg how awful.

@ Maureen, don't feel bad, I've done that a couple of times - forgot where I was posting and blathered a little too much. Christmas can be a very sorrowful time for a lot of people. I worked on the Crisis Line Phones for many years and Christmas was our busiest time of the year - so much loneliness, depression and suicide at this time of the year. As a kid, it was my favorite holiday but not so much anymore. My eldest child, a little boy of 3 passed away of leukemia just before Xmas many years ago so I was never quite able to get all the joy back.

Almost Christmas Eve. I'll be in and out all day tomorrow and also Christmas Day. Here is my image for tomorrow - she is the painting I did as a demo in the class on taught on Saturday.

The part that stood out to me about Saint Margret C. is the fact, here we are hundreds of years later, and we (as humans) around the world still kill people, for not believing as they do.We haven't progressed to the point of allowing one to believe what one wants to believe. yes we have made strides in many areas, I hope I said that right,

Holy Macro! I am trying to understand what you are all talking about. I hope everything is ok.

I am going to vote and promote now. I am trying to hang around over the Christmas days. Even though our Christmas is going to be a quiet one, we are still together with the family (brothers, nephew, great nephews, niece, mom, aunt, hubby, no dogs no cats unfortunately).

@ Maya, I am promoting everybody diligently. For your pictures I have an extra folder on Pinterest called Maya Telford's Art and I usually promote on FB, g+ and twitter. I don't have Stumble Upon.

For everybody else, I use FB, g+ and a couple of public folders on Pinterest as well as twitter. The public folders on Pin I use because I think most of the postings can go in there and more people can see it. I hope this is ok with everybody.

Except when Douglas promotes my pictures on FB I usually cannot see either if anybody promotes on FB, maybe because I have a personal and my photography account. But I can see how many shares if I look at the SM logos on each picture. Do I make sense? Probably not. I noticed though that when ever I post something on FB it sometimes takes a few days until it comes up. Go figure!!!

Off to voting and promoting now. Might drop in later if I have anything to post. So far I cannot decide what to promote. Arrrgghhhh!

@Sabine - you are a PR wonder - you should be in New York on 5th Avenue working for a large PR company!
@Maureen - I have fantastic memories of Christmases past, in Quebec with lots of snow, as a small child within a huge family. I am so lucky to have those - just wonderful
@Steven - that movie "The Three Amigos" comes to mind when I read your post lol lol

I wanted to stop by to say a great big HELLO to everyone here on MMI! I hope you are all dong well?

I'm not posting today ~ too much going on with visiting the multitude of families that have arrived in town, devouring delicious dinners & spreading good cheer, but I hope to get back into the swing of things soon. Till then, it's always fun to see your work on my tours of Pinterest, FaceBook, G+ & Twitter - when I come across your images, I always give it a thumbs up even if I don't have time to comment!

Wishing you all the best and hope your enjoying a lovely December holiday no matter how you celebrate!

All the best,
Jo Ann

@Jo Ann - Great to see you...I'm glad I caught you popping in ! Happy Holidays to you and your family !

Thanks for re-posting my link Maya...I very much appreciate it. And I always SM your work...I have several Pinterest folders for Fine Art America Art and other folders as well. I decide piece by piece where each should go...but they're there !

I'll return later....I'll probably post later tonight for tomorrow and I'll have to break for a day or two because of work....
Merry, Merry Everyone !

Happy Christmas Eve to those celebrating

@ Denise I had typed a snappy reply then I read about her and my joke kinda fell flat, still kind of makes a case for keeping your maiden name.

As far as promoting I do and will continue to promote on here as well as other threads I try and spread it around so it doesn't look spammy.
I keep adding new boards to my Pinterest account to help define the type of artwork so it isn't all on a board or two. I've also noticed that by adding boards I'm getting more followers

It would be kinds pointless to be on a SM thread and not promote other people I would think that would be a short lived exercise.. Course to err is human so … If I do miss someone from time to time just let me know :)

@ Jo Ann Great to hear from you and I do notice you popping into my orbit from time to time…Thanks for your continued support!

Hey Everybody ! Happy Season to All....And many thanks to whomever can re-link this for me. I have studied up enough to know that an iPad does make a clickable link, so mine is under-performing there for some reason.

FYI, the ArtStudio App is virtually like having Photoshop on your iPad...and for only $4.95 ....this post shows some of what it can do...

Everyone...post em if you got em!!!! Just not to the group for features if you please... til I return...usually get a hundred submissions per day for the group....figure it out....will be "cob webbing" in the corner by the time I finish reviewing them!

So post in Discussion for SM promos and in the other discussions, just not to the group for "Features" Thank you everyone!

We are in Weatherford TX this Christmas evening and will be up and at em tomorrow early to drive in to Memphis TN...love that city! So just checking in for a quick peek...all looks good to me....will do my SM and commenting on all postings and then off to bed.... Hope all of your Christmas wishes came true!

omg Denise - hope you are ok? Where did you get scratched? Not too serious I hope.

Lived with cats all my life and I know what those claws can do. A few years back one of mine got herself up on a very tall fridge and started rolling around being cute and then started to fall - dummy here decides to try and save her (I forgot the saying about cats landing on their feet). Anyway my top lip got sliced open as well as one hand. Scars remain. You still gotta love them though lol.

Caught up! Steven I loved your story too! But I am going to tell you what I tell every new blogger - eye candy! Especially you photographers! You make your own eye candy! If I'm going to a photographer's blog I would expect to see their photos and it's your very own platform to promote your work. Many posts can be just a photo or two - the more often you post the higher up you move in the google search. I know it's just your first posting but even so that story was so great I was eager to see at least one exampe of what your efforts got you that day! Share your eye candy! The stories are great but the photos, especially your photos, are the beauty!

Lee-I would like to drop it but its such a good deal for the price. Especially once the new sites are up and running, lots of control and new features. My clients like going there and I really like the capability of creating separate private accounts for many of them.. However, building this new web site: CRAZY! Its not the simple template anymore.. I think it will take me at least a month to get it up and running...

I did have an issue with them this week.. I found out I sold SIX (6) pieces since October. I didn't click the button that stops it from going through their service. Only way I found out was a lady ordered the wrong one (had a watermark on it)... I am watching those buttons closer when uploading the photos!

Great work all..

I feel like the subject in this picture after hours working Smugmug!

@ Everyone,
Thanks so much for your attention to my blog and Thanks for reading ! I really appreciate your support and I braced myself for a critical onslaught actually.... They'll speak up eventually - they always arrive on time !

@Kandy - I really do love the ArtStudio App and it is Very Much laid out like Photoshop. I almost knew my way around instantly. It is only $4.95 !!

I have also used the Inspire Pro App but I could not find a way to do layered textures like you can in the ArtStudio App. The same limitation seems to apply to the ArtRage3 app.

Below is the link to an iPad Painting Group here on FAA, and it's run by Angela Stanton, an incredible artist in my opinion.
I found it very helpful to look at their paintings - Angela requires artists to list what software App they use in the Description Area, so it's very helpful to look and see what art you LIKE and see what App they used etc....

Steven and other bloggers - more tips - I think the most important thing about blogging is that you enjoy it! Don't let it ever become work. A blog does not have to be a great article post everytime. A post can be as simple as one photo alone, or maybe with a quote, or a blog can be just a great quote maybe by someone like Ansel Adams etc. Use the seasons, Fall photos in the Fall etc, maybe with Fall quotes or just alone. One thing I do is when I have the time I compose a number of posts ahead of time - if I'm going to be busy - or just to have a stash of future posts so when I am not feeling inspired I can go to my stash and pull a post to publish.Try to post at least 2-3 times a month, as I said even just a simple photo. It boosts your blog in the google searches. And as I said earlier - eye candy - I always try to have at least 3 photos for each post - either of my work or usually images I have purchased that go along with a certain poem I am using. That's why I have over 13,000 images in my iPhoto library! Either you have to have the rights or it is public domain. My poems are always in the public domain. The fact that I have over 100,000 page views makes me smile! Have fun!

Maureen Tillman

Douglas don't worry about blog followers, they come slowly but blog readers are more important. Do you have sitemeter or any kind of analytics like google analytics on it to watch your readers grow? I know a lot of people don't want more things coming into their email box so I don't even use an email mailing list. I post my blog occasionally like on here and fb and those who want to read it will. I get most of my activity from google searches on my subject matter, my profiles I do on poets, artists, le belle époque actresses and from certain poets I use like Robert Frost - searching him will bring you to my blog. If you post a quote by Ansel Adams or all the famous ones you are using now - each one of those can be a blog post and it will bring you readers searching those famous people. That's a great draw you have there - use it on your blog. A photo or vintage illustration of the person and a quote and that's your blog post! They make great fillers and then when you want to you can add an original more extensive blog post of your own.

Marueen, like minds!!

I noticed whatever topic I included in a post brought people interested in that topic. For example I mention "hiking" in one post and it brougth two hikes who now follow me! I posted a picture of a cheesecake I made at Xmas and it brought people who like to bake! So I'm slowly figuring it out. And you echo my experience so far and affirm I'm on the right track so THANKS!

Yes there is a sitemeter built into wordpress which gives you more info than you prob. ever want to know. It tells you where people come from to get to your post also! Speaking of which you inspired me to put up a new post since you said I didn't have to write an award winning novel to post something! lol!

Douglas you know what you are doing on your fb art page can be used as a post on your blog too - you can feature other artists on there too. And yes it is important to use the best keywords in your blog titles to get the folks looking for that thing. And remember to add your blog addy to other sites like your Pinterest profile, WIX profile, any place you can stick it!

I've had an assistant all my Corporate Years and I am so lost now without one.. She was an English major, that was my # 1 requirement! lol But, to top that, when I went bowling, I had my shirt on inside out all day and not one friend told me! Its all Par for the course....

Guys, call me a bonehead, but I cannot find where to comment on your blogs...

Glad you are back James, hoping your family medical issues are not too serious. I too am going back to my B&W roots. I also find it disciplines me for better color work...

WOW Now Marcello knows about eye candy!! Check his out my blogging newbies - see how the images keep you transfixed, on the page and scrolling down!! Well done Marcello! http://themarcello.com

Denise I used to be a proof reader for a printers before spell-check. I don't always say something when I catch a mistake partly because I don't know how they will react or appreciate it … but also and more and more, I think partly because of texting etc. spelling, accepted spelling, "ain't " what it used to be. I think many "misspellings" are intentional - I have even given in a little, very little though, but I'll use "cuz" in place of because mostly cuz I'm lazy! One new thing I hate is with my new MacBookPro - wasn't on my old one but now the computer thinks it knows better than me and it will change a word I type to something similar that it thinks I really want! And even when I change it back it will do it again! Usually on the 3rd time it will let it be. I always have to go back now and make sure my computer isn't mis-proofing my intent! Frustrating!

Maureen Tillman

Just a word of encouragement! I use Blogger so that's the only one I can talk about. I was scared to death years ago to start - I was afraid something would get posted (published) accidentally before I was ready. No problem, even if you did you can immediately take it off - at any time you can delete it. And you can work on your blog set up as long as you want until you are ready to hit "publish" - no hurry. There are hundreds of templates to choose from - we are artists, we are well suited to design our own blogs. Choose a few areas of interest you think you want to write on. It can be just one idea too, but just don't make it a random thing, readers want to know what to expect to find there - mine is art, poetry and vintage images mainly.

think I am caught up the 24 hours - first time I have been away since joining this group. Spent the last day in hospital in emergency with a seized up back - couldn't walk. I am home full of morphine and other nasties and in bed now with my laptop. Trying to get caught up on everything.
@Denise - I couldn't get your link to work so went into your gallery and took "garden steps in Windsor Castle" - wonderful piece
I don't really have anything new - have been working on a couple but haven't been a to paint for the last four days due to back pain. So here is one I think you have probably already seen but hope you will like revisiting

@Maya, take care of yourself, that sounds soooooo painful!
@James, hope your wife is doing well, or as well as she can be, your family are in my thoughts, sending positive waves your direction.
@Denise, were you using some of Maya morphine drip, so that you could bowl with your hand? that would explain the inside out shirt. (be there, done that)
@Frank, don't forget to vote for yourself, I was your first vote (like)

Good Morning All! It is already evening and the year 2013 comes to an end soon here in Germany. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year. I wish you all health, happiness, good luck and all the success in the world.

I hope this group will continue for a long time as I really enjoyed everybody and everybody's art. You all helped me to get through a very difficult time with your kind and supportive comments and my wish for the New Year is to be able to reciprocate.

@ Maureen, your blog advises are immensely valuable for me. I haven't started a blog yet as I am still too hesitant. First of all English is only my second language and as a perfectionist it won't be good enough for me. Having worked in publishing I know it would be better to write in my mother tongue, however having lived in Canada for the last 16 years I feel more like writing in English. Oh well, I am sure I will start one day.

@ Maya, get well soon. I can only imagine how painful it is. Take good care of you!

I am on the hotel business computers at present....beyond tomorrow, will not know if I can get online until we return to TN. So, it might be a while....please carry on with the discussions if you want this discussion group to continue. I will do my best to do features when I can for MMI. Hope you all had a great start of the New Year! I can't complain, we are safe, together and have been with family, going to visit more....so we are doing well and enjoying the start of 2014! :) If you want to advise me on a laptop that would be geared for our types....please email me here on the site, I'd appreciate input...thanks all and HAPPY 2014!

@Barbara - I used to use PCs and was very dedicated to them. But EVERY PC I owned would crash and die every 3-4 years. DOA at Best Buy every time. "Oh the memory must have gotten corrupted..." they would say, etc etc.

It didn't matter that I had plenty of anti-spyware and anti-virus protection. Every 3-4 years, it would always crash and die on me.

This has NEVER happened to me on a Mac. And I've never looked back.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" laptop as my home computer now and I have it hooked up to a larger flatscreen monitor and a keyboard when I am at home. So I have both the comfort of a home computer and the mobility of a laptop if I want it on the road.

Good Luck deciding !!

No little stinkin' snow storm is keeping me away from this group of excellent artists.
I'm in at work during the first decent winter storm of the year. Its snow, glorious snow! But I use public transportation so everyone in this area stay off the roads its not safe to drive.
It's a little cold here in the city, but I personally LOVE this weather. However, my home town up North in Vermont has -20* temps plus a dangerous windchill, without any real snow to make it look nice outside. That is not fun winter weather.

Anyway, I'm still on my B&W kick, so here is another image for your promotion. Thank you all for the amazing comments and support.

Hello all and thanks for visiting my blog and being so supportive!

@ WEATHER!! Man oh man you guys back east stay warm. I lived in upstate NY and I know COLD! Not to make anyone jealous, and the reason I moved this way in fact, its very mild here today, about 65 degrees. I paid my dues living in the mountains of New Mexico for several years where its 10 to 16 degrees for many months during the winter (which lasts for nearly 7 months each year!) In fact I just wrote up a blog post all about this very thing - weather in the last three places I've lived! Entitled Seattle + Santa Fe = San Diego!

http://wp.me/p47ccR-3R

@Frank - you are right, Macs go way longer than PCs! BUT my MacBook pro lasted 8 years then kicked the bucket. Constantly had its video card go wonky and lots of dead pixels. Replaced it once for free at the Apple store but 2 years later the video card bit the dust again! So even though its far longer lived than a PC it does have a life expectancy!

James, so jealous that you use public trans and can trot around the city during the storm... I love shooting storms of any kind...'

Nice read Douglas

Barbara,- Canon and PC girl here (I hear you all booing).. Love the new "all in ones" from HP... Just got one and LOVE It!! But then again, I buy German cars that break down every month so I may not be the best source.... But seriously, with the rate of technology, do you really want a computer that last more than five years?

Well, I was going to complain, no, not about getting up at 3:am too shoot but that I got clobbered by a rouge wave before I even got my first shot off this morning and froze my butt off the next two hours. Just had to get the right angle.... I fear the raphe of you surviving the storm in the east, so no I am not complaining....But I was "Colder than a well diggers butt" about fell over reading that Lee.....

Here was an easy shot just after the sun came up... I little glow of warmth for all of you under snow....

Sorry 'bout your butt Denise...well not a lot. I'm missing my 75 degree weather that I left in Arizona!

I too am a PC kind of gal. My monitor is an NEC as big as my desk and my laptop that I travel with is a Lenovo ThinkPad with almost as big a screen as the one on my desk. Airport security always has some kind of snide remark about it and it's size...but for photography or graphics, it's the bomb!

Oh...and I don't really have that poor of language skills Denise...I dropped a couple of letters in your comment and of course couldn't get it back so that I didn't sound like a hilljack! Done...sheesh!

Douglas I'm on my second MacBook Pro - last one lasted 7 years - I've never had trouble with a video card - I don't even know what that is - maybe photographers use that, maybe I'm using it and don't even know it! My images all go into my iPhoto library - over 13000 now. And because it's a Mac - no viruses! The only thing I replaced on the last one was the battery but on the new ones apparently you don't have to do that even anymore. I had cabin fever so bad today I called a cab and went out in 9 degree weather. Monday's high is supposed to be 10-15 BELOW - for the high! I've been preparing / stocking up for a class I am teaching for just 2 hours a week from Sunday - 2 hrs / $75 an hour plus materials - can't beat that. Its a jewelry class - there is supposed to be 3 more, one in Feb / March and April too. It could actually turn into a regular gig I'm thinking. One class will be in collage which is what I really want to teach - classes in my future home someday - this condo complex wouldn't be the best location but if I had to I could do it. These classes are going to be downtown. Tired tonight.

Maureen, glad your Mac book is doing so well. Let me tell you I also got an IMAC. It lasted 8 years and then the video card started going also. it gets dead pixels or lines through the monitor. not fixable. So between the macbook pro and the Imac it costs me over $5000 bucks 10 years ago! And now both are paper weights. I'm glad yours worked and hope they still do. But that was a lot of money to lay out to have them both go bad on me!!!

Good Sunday Morning to all! I hope that if you are in the path of this winter storm you are safe and warm!

I have 6 images of my junkyard trucks that I was never completely satisfied with...so I deleted them, re-worked them, re-named them and re-loaded them! I lost so many votes, favs and social media, but it had to be done. If they weren't good enough for me, how could they be good enough to sell?

I'll be running them thru the thread this week for some much needed love! Thanks!

Caught up again. I hope everybody is having a nice and relaxing Sunday. One more week in Germany and then I will return home to Canada. It's been a long time, 3 months, and I have to admit I am glad now going home.

I am still trying to find a picture I want to post. Can't decide what I want! Sigh!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group, but I think I've got the rules for the thread down and I've loved visiting and "liking" everyone's beautiful pieces. I just started out at FAA, so my port is very small for now but I'll be adding more images every day and I could use all the feedback I can get.

I'm looking forward to seeing more inspirational pieces from this group! Here's my first one:

Sunday post;

No 4 in the series - turn-of-the-century antique coffee tins. I got a "thank you" print for the antique collector who shared these. Looks like a real shelf with real tins when the wrap around canvas is chosen!

Sundays-A series I a am working on for the lost historical beach front homes (poetry with the homes and lost lives) by the state and greedy contractors. Newer mansions and semi mansions were built above them in this breathtaking cove...These homes where architectural early American icons, many built in the 1800s..

Good day all. Wonderful work as usual. I'm all caught up since my post on Friday.
Thank you all for the support and promotion.

Weather is a bit dreary here, with rain taking away all of my glorious snow, and freezing temperatures on the way to make everything ice. So this has made me a little moody. So, here is my image for promotion. Its a little dark, but I tend to be that way myself. Thank you.

Good morning all. It was quite a bitter walk to the subway this morning on my way to work, but nothing I haven't dealt with before growing up in Northern Vermont. If you listen to the people from NY and NJ you would think that the apocolypse had arrived, just in ice and windchill instead of fire and brimstone. lol
@Maureen - you have it worse in that area of the country. Stay warm and safe.
@Jane - Welcome back and happy new year. Glad to see you return to our group family.
@Amy - Take the time you need and come back refreshed and inspired.
@Andrea - Welcome.

Hoping for slightly warmer temps and epic powder days soon.
Still in a dark place right now. This one is a little more subtle, but I saw it right away. Not sure what that says about me. lol
