Need Idea For My New Painting Please

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/07/2013 - 10:08 PM

I am working on a new painting and wondered if you had an idea what he could be holding on his hand?

I did think of something but someone may come up with something better

You may notice that I have strayed from my normal boats or animals for something from my imagination for a change Lol

Photography Prints

Any ideas?

For anyone into facts, it is 40" x 50" and I'm having to stretch to reach the top lol

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/07/2013 - 10:13 PM

Hmmmm not quite the thing I'm after apart from in MY hand lol

Posted by: Phyllis Taylor on 11/07/2013 - 10:20 PM

A chain with a pendant hanging on it.

Posted by: Jeffery Johnson on 11/07/2013 - 10:21 PM

Statue of Liberty?

A cookie

A microphone

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/07/2013 - 10:21 PM

What kind of pendant?

Posted by: Vivian ANDERSON on 11/07/2013 - 10:23 PM

a cross, says she, small-ish

Posted by: Bradley Clay on 11/07/2013 - 10:24 PM

What is he?

I'm seeing a small person, a nude lady perhaps?

Yes, a nude angelic lady with wings

Posted by: Nikolyn McDonald on 11/07/2013 - 11:02 PM

A Faux I-Pad

Posted by: Gunter Nezhoda on 11/07/2013 - 11:25 PM

Well, first thought ........ Those hills look like wineyards - wine = alcohol - alcohol = addiction which leads to that evil snake face.

The message - how those peaceful hills (Nature) can make you look like a snake when you are drunk.

So, he could hold a bottle of wine

really? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp

Posted by: Wingsdomain Art and Photography on 11/07/2013 - 11:25 PM

A straght flush. -W

Posted by: Angelina Vick on 11/07/2013 - 11:48 PM

Kyle said a cup.

My first thought was venom dripping down. Then I thought...people on strings.

Posted by: Gunter Nezhoda on 11/07/2013 - 11:48 PM

How about Snake Oil

Posted by: Nikolyn McDonald on 11/07/2013 - 11:49 PM

"Then I thought...people on strings."

I love that. A marionette.

Posted by: Angelina Vick on 11/08/2013 - 12:11 AM

Thank you. =)

Posted by: Mary Ellen Anderson on 11/08/2013 - 12:16 AM

harry potter

Posted by: Anita Dale Livaditis on 11/08/2013 - 12:33 AM

Oh, heck, why pussy foot around destruction, how about a nuclear bomb?

Abbie, I think it all depends on what it is you want to say, so I would get clear on that and then it should come to you.

Posted by: Gregory Scott on 11/08/2013 - 1:02 AM

He looks like a moray eel, to me. A fishing rod? A spear gun, etc?
If he's a cobra, how about a toy car, an indian design recorder/flute, a bottle of whiskey? (snake-bite medicine). Dead Man's hand (aces over eights).

Posted by: J L Meadows on 11/08/2013 - 1:47 AM

Perhaps a tarot Death card?

Or a contract with the notation "Sign Here" and a dotted line at the bottom? (Although I don't know how that would relate to the landscape around him. Unless you entitle the painting "I Can Give You The World", in the spirit of that old story from the New Testament about Jesus and the devil:)

"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

Posted by: Dean Harte on 11/08/2013 - 1:53 AM

what about a toilet plunger?

Posted by: Kathi Shotwell on 11/08/2013 - 1:57 AM

I'm with Anita, what you put in the hand will have a huge effect on the message of the piece.

My first thought was wine or flower in hand... as Gunter said, it does look like wine country.

Ice cream cone, fun!

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/08/2013 - 2:15 AM

Thanks all:)

I love the contract idea which was more along the lines of why I painted this. Its not meant to be whimsical or funny but I had a giggle reading some of the ideas :)

My idea was scales, or a dice......future of the world kind of thing

Posted by: Barbara Moignard on 11/08/2013 - 2:32 AM

A human mask. A book of spells.

Posted by: Melissa Bittinger on 11/08/2013 - 2:38 AM

I love JL's idea of the contract and title. I couldn't think of anything...or Gunter's wine, lol!

Posted by: Adam Jewell on 11/08/2013 - 2:48 AM

Initial thought was ice cream cone.

Maybe the heart if the ocean if there is a version with the earth or just some ocean waves where the land is now.

Maybe a tornado twirling from the hand down to the ground.

Maybe it could be straightening out its necktie.

Posted by: Anita Dale Livaditis on 11/08/2013 - 3:53 AM

In that case a wedding ring, or something else symbolic of a contract or commitment.

Posted by: Melissa Bittinger on 11/08/2013 - 4:07 AM

It does look like it's getting ready to take a bite of something with the hand position. Adam has some great ideas too.

Posted by: Teresa White on 11/08/2013 - 4:26 AM

Give it tissue, looks like hes got a cold, going to sneeze all its gunk lol!!

Posted by: Dean Harte on 11/08/2013 - 4:34 AM

he could be pulling a white rabbit out of a black tophat. For controversy, you could also add a giant schlong.

Posted by: Anita Dale Livaditis on 11/08/2013 - 4:44 AM

Dean, I must have read that wrong.

Posted by: Dean Harte on 11/08/2013 - 4:51 AM

lol - don't shoot the messenger, not sure in which direction Beth wants to take this :D It would definitely be weird though.

Posted by: Karen Wiles on 11/08/2013 - 4:59 AM

The beautiful valley of earth below looks so peaceful, and he looks as though he represents evil over the earth. How about something that represents greed, like money for instance...

Posted by: Andrew Read on 11/08/2013 - 5:09 AM

Interesting piece Abbie, it is like maybe someone wanting to rule the land but is not all they appear to be, a snake...someone not to be trusted. hmmm a name comes to mind in our Government, what's his name? lol...
But maybe cash in his hand.
Or could be an alien visitor to Earth in the shape of a snake...maybe some little spaceships.

Posted by: Teresa White on 11/08/2013 - 5:21 AM

Snake God,yes Andrew,alien lol!!

Posted by: Andrew Read on 11/08/2013 - 5:41 AM

Abbie could also make the upper part of the body silver if she goes down the Alien route, lol. with scales.....not kitchen scales though!

Posted by: Margit Wimmer on 11/08/2013 - 6:17 AM

a being beyond our / from another planet - extraterrestrial..

Posted by: Andrew Pacheco on 11/08/2013 - 6:27 AM

Maybe trees with roots hanging wild, or some kind of farm equipment....a tractor maybe. It looks like he's reaching into the landscape with the other hand, about to crawl over the top of it. He/it certainly looks like harm is intended.

Posted by: Luke Moore on 11/08/2013 - 6:27 AM

Tail of a rattlesnake... his own tail? Old school hour glass timer with the sand in it? Silver or gold stopwatch with a chain hanging. A crumpled or distressed piece of paper with the word "propaganda". Large overlay of a painted clock with hands that can be seen faintly over the mountains in the fore and mid-ground.

Posted by: Barbara Moignard on 11/08/2013 - 6:34 AM

A scythe, a cage, a musical instrument - a horn perhaps which he is about to play. A handful of animals, either earth ones he's picking up or strange ones he's setting down. A key.

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/08/2013 - 6:45 AM

Wow! Now I am starting to feel something.... Love the time idea!

Also really liking the trees or similar....

The time aspect intrigues ..

The painting is darker in real life and big so quite ominous

What a fine picture I see now under your topic.I can offer you to find new ideas by looking my pictures on FAA and here:

What do you think about this?

Posted by: Mike Savad on 11/08/2013 - 7:38 AM

i'm thinking a person would be best. a farmer, or a guy in a business suit - it can be an equalizer to those in government.

marat what does that have to do with this conversation?

The President?

Two Cents: Your 'imagination' perhaps...but it seems to be coming from your 'gut' instinct. You have touched on a very sensitive subject that is felt by many people in our time...
That suited man, of great size, stretching over the land is holding a beastly mask in front of him...And the painting gives no answer but leaves the viewer to reflect, question and perhaps also introspect...I find it dead-on wonderful just the way you painted it! Nice, very nice! tdp

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 11/08/2013 - 8:54 AM

Thank you so much! :)

Posted by: Thomas Woolworth on 11/08/2013 - 9:01 AM

Your inner being coming out after helping some members all day.

Posted by: Phyllis Taylor on 11/08/2013 - 9:31 AM

The pendant could be a clock to represent time.

My original thought was a pendant representing a wizardly symbol......something mysterious.

I still have work to do but thought you may like to see what I chose....

The black card will be a form of tarot...but not tarot.

Getting there now :)

Posted by: Chris Kusik on 11/08/2013 - 1:26 PM

How about a copy of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy!

Posted by: Angelina Vick on 11/08/2013 - 5:57 PM

Ha! The number 42 on the card!

It looks very creative. I really like how many elements you have going.
