Hi Philip, I don't know about magcloud but this company offers interesting ideas to print mags...http://issuu.com/

It has a monthly fee and with a few advertisers it would easily pay for itself. Hard copy print mags are difficult to get into mainstream distribution unless volumes are high and they are expensive to print.... it take a lot of advertising revenue to make them sustainable.

With the Issuu idea the mags could be offered for free and distributed electronically... maybe magcloud is the same I don't know. Still it would take a group of people willing to work together to make it viable.

New Book - Under the Wire

I did a book last year using CreateSpace. Didn't cost me anything and I sell it on Amazon. But the formatting and paper really were not ideal for producing photography or artwork. Otherwise I would have done another by now. I've sold about 40 copies.

Some excellent books, .... artist books are a great way to show/sell your art, I have had two print sales from people who have bought the book ...... unfortunatly I did have to handle it from my end, as the shipping to Aus doubles the cost.

Roy it is worth the effort and a lot allow Tiff/png.

little black book $20 flush mount

I created this book called Illuminations of my macro and ColorBlur flower work. I get them printed at a place in Hong Kong I believe. Anyway their website is ArtsCow.com. I order their deluxe book which has a wrap around cover and the pages are the lay flat style so almost no gutter in the center and the pages are really heavy almost like card stock. I've sold three of them so far and donated one to a charity auction. Getting ready to place another order on Monday. It is based on an acrostic of the title Illuminations.

I keep meaning to make a book - but all my images are saved in PNG or TIFF - and I think I would have to change them all to jpg's - not ready to do that just yet.

Marlene, it's certainly great to be able to veiw your book online like blurb, for me when I looked at what I wanted to produce the 100 page wrap around hard cover of approximatly the same size on blurb was $120 [ or $150 on the Australian blurb ] before putting any margin on it, then add delivery cost. As I sell a lot at exhibitions where people can physically flip through the book, I went with the more reasonable pricing, but admittedly online it is much harder to convey the qualities of the book through static small images, so still trying to find a better way to show the book.

Thank you, Carl...with my photographic work, a book is the only way to be able to 'see' my work and show it to others without a piece of technology. I agree that it is a great item to sell, especially when the art is high ticketed.

The ability to preview the book is such a wonderful marketing tool over the internet...people can see exactly what they are getting!

Hi Marlene, excellent book and I love how you can view your pages. Unfortunately the printer I use doesn't have the ability to showcase as far as I know, I will contact them and see what is possible. I'm bit surprise that more artist don't have their work compiled in book form, at exhibitions they are always popular, I've found people either buy the book as a less expensive way to have the artist work or they buy it to accompany the artwork they have bought.
