How Much Time Daily / Weekly Do You Spend Promoting Your Art?

A definition of terms:

- creating and uploading an image to FAA I don't consider as promotions. That is more like making the image available for purchase.

"Promotion" is what you do AFTER it is uploaded - blogging, uploading to other galleries, social-media stuff, etc.

How much time daily or weekly do you spend in pure promotions?

I show some pics in my social media profiles when I upload them and I write in my blog also showing the posts in social medias.
I don't know what else I can do.
I notice if I show up too often in social media people ignore my posts. This is why I try to write and show what I have only once a week. More than it people will not look give attention anymore.

the last few days i decided to tend to twitter, spend like 30 min grabbing people. while twitter gives me a pile of people to try, half the time it loads a blank page. so i'm doing a new search.

basically your setting up a garage sale. if you tell no one, you might get one or two people that just happen to be in the area going to it. if you place a single balloon at end of a driveway you get more attention. if you place signs at the end of the block, more will see. if the signs go out farther, even better. if you advertise in local papers and so on, you get more.

but just uploading is never enough. in a normal gallery you have foot traffic. but on a site like this, if you don't do anything, no one will ever know your here, unless they find you by accident on google. that's why it's important to spread your name around. any way you think you can do it, do that.

I am a marketing person, so I have incorporated my efforts here into 4 of my 6 web sites. Eventually all 6.
Plus I have emailed everyone who follows me and let them know I am on here now.
Plus I have emailed several companies and let them know I am alive.
Plus, I add images every couple of days. Variety.

Marketing yourself sells you.

A few weeks ago all I used to do was uploading my paintings and forget them. It's only after reading a few discussion threads here on FAA, I understood the value of promotion. I still don't do much but nowadays whenever I upload something, I post it in some relevant FAA discussion threads, twitter, FB's relevant groups. Except these I always used to maintain my blog and FB page.

I have no idea. I try to do some everyday. FB, twitter, houzz, blog posts, and I keep trying to make contacts to show work in person...not sure what, if anything...is working

Many folks don't track their ads, but it is a good idea to do so if you want to see where the best results come from.

i can say - a search engine. because i know i come up in google. we don't have a good counter on this side of the site. so i can't tell really where they come from. i do know many search for me by name. and there are people that advertise me on twitter or facebook - because they are fans. i think many simply go to my store and look.

I spend usually 5 to 6 days a week promoting my art...Usually through my blogs and local advertising venues.
My business is painting murals so I need to stay on top of advertising and gaining as much exposure as possible.

@Mike

Very interesting, Mike. So you are saying you rely basically on being found in FAA's search engine?

outside of faa. none. i'll send a tweet here and there, but i don't have time to be messing with blogs and such.

@ Fran, I post under: CL los angeles central LA for sale / wanted arts & crafts - by owner

I don't get a lot of sales, but my last two were: $250 for a framed piece I had enjoyed for 5 years, and the original was now better, and $400 for a recent gallery wrap.

But, like any advertising, you just keep putting it out there and eventually someone will respond. At least everything is free now.

When I designed hand-carved furniture and wrought iron, I had to pay for adds in the paper and wonder if they would ever work.

I use Twitter for a few hours a day. I have a number of folks I follow that art artist or designers and I try to connect with them regularly. They've included my work in some of their marketing and blogs.

I also keep an eye out for competitions not on FAA.

I participate in a few groups on LinkedIn.

@Chuck - does Craigslist work for you? Do you post under the for sale, or in community artists?

Chuck Staley

I post on Craigslist about every 20 to 30 minutes, and the same on Twitter, from about 8:30 am until 5. That's when my granddaughter takes over my computer "because it is faster."

And we all know how important that is!

Dan, I can tell you what I do, but I'm no marketing person. So I can't say that anything I do is necessarily useful.

ADDENDUM:

Perhaps also tell others what you do. This will provide learning tools for everybody.

I try to spend at least two hours a day on it and sometimes more.
