Post Your Latest Blog Posts

I made a new website - www.ConorOBrienArt.com - and was thinking that there should be a thread for me and everyone here to share our LATEST blog posts.

There is already a thread where you can post a link of your blog:

Blog...What Is Your Link?

This thread is different. Any NEW POSTS on your blog that you want to promote and think the people here at FAA will find interesting, you can share them here in this thread.

Rules: DON'T SHARE OLD POSTS in this thread. You can't go through your back catalog of old blog posts and share them here. Be fair and only share new posts that you want to share with the FAA community.

@Andee & Lara, I'm glad you enjoyed my wren story! In case you were routing for the persistent little wren I think the tables have turned!! After emptying out the nest box for the umpteenth time, I stuck two golf balls in it. She hasn't gone back to the box since. For the last two mornings she's been singing along the treeline on top of a woodpile were she belongs :)

WIP #1 – Running Out of Ideas

The beginning of a new painting. This is actually the first painting I will have done in over a year as I was creating artwork photography and projections over the past 12 months. The oil painting will be called ‘Running Out of Ideas’, which was the state of mind that I was in – I couldn’t think of anything to paint. While I was waiting for that ‘bulb’ to light up upon thinking of a great idea, I thought maybe my ‘bulb’ is broke, which led to this conceptual, surrealist interpretation of how I could convey that thought.

Artists on FAA

A window of opportunity opens up for all artists who respond to this posting before Saturday at midnight (!) September 28, tomorrow in other words.
If you want the wheels of a huge marketing machine to start rolling, then you will contribute your points to this contest between two artists.

I am the recipient of a promotional campaign in a contest showdown between 'CORENS VERSUS RESTO' on a delightful blog post called www.KindredClosets.com that decided to promote artists and their work.

If you want to take the Bloggers's breath away and attention into your court, who is seeking artists to promote, then participate before the deadline and leave your www.yourname.artistwebsites,com link for her to contact you if selected for the next blog, or for future interest.
Here follow instructions, for savvy linkers and new linkers alike. We know that linking is the new paradise, and we will have to learn it sooner or later. The goal is to obtain as many points as possible that are counted by internal blog metrics that only the blogger sees and needs. However, be careful not to spam, (or go to Resto' s site since he gets points from your visit. Curtail your curiosity until Sunday morning!) if not my week long effort to promote this new opening for artists flies out the window. And if you like the other artist better, than think that he was not generous enough to add more than one picture, and that character point also counts!!
As far as receiving a fashion blog: as a fashion designer, artist and mother, I stake my reputation on it that there is no better and more refined one, with prices and selections for the coming season made for you. It will be a luxury and delight to receive it, if not, especially for men, just unsubscribe without further ado and annoyances after your vote. I HOPE TO SEE YOUR COMMENTS THERE.

New Artwork: ‘Running Out of Ideas’

I finally got time to post up this painting I completed a couple months ago. My latest artwork is called ‘Running Out of Ideas’. I was in a state of mind where I couldn’t think of anything to paint. While I was waiting for that ‘bulb’ to light up, upon thinking of a great idea, I thought maybe my ‘bulb’ is broke, which led to this conceptual, surrealist painting which conveys the irony of that idea.

Bridges General Store Bridges Ohio
this image isn't Elmer's Store, but it is very typical of the type that was located all over the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana country side from 1800's on up to 1950's.
When I first saw the General Store at Bridges I was thrilled, he had glass counter fronts with shelves in behind that went all the way to the ceiling. He carried everything a kid or family could want and more.
We moved up to Bridges in the summer of 1952, I was riding on top of a load of our furniture on Grandpas big red International flatbed truck, which is what we used to move with. At about 8 years old everything was new to me and very exciting; I just dont know how much use I was in lending a helping hand.
Thats where I got my first Nesbitts Grape Soda, that along with the bologna sandwiches which tasted better than anything I had had yet.
Elmer Leaverton was a kind and gentle old man and always happy to see you. He had a gas pump and sold kerosene and all types of groceries. As I grew up into my teen years and driving a car, gas was about 23 cents per gallon. I know because my first car was an old 51 Chrysler and it took one gallon of gas and one quart of oil to go into Leesburg and back, It was ten years old at that time.
All the farmers would gather at the store in the late fall and winter months after most of the work on the farms were finished. Elmer had an old pot belly stove and Dane my brother and I would sneak down to the store and sit around the stove and spit, trying to act big enough to get into the conversation. I always especially liked it at Christmas time; Elmer would buy candy by the big amounts and sell it to Mom for Christmas in little brown Pokes, man that was the best candy you ever ate. She always bought 8 or 10 bags at a time so we really had a good variety. Elmers store was several miles out into the country, but back then there were little stores like this all over the country.
I guess thats why I like taking photos of them they all bring back fond memories of good times long gone, but as they say never forgotten. Sadly I dont have a picture of Elmers store, sure wish I did.
Elmer had one of those high porches you had to climb to get into the store that were built a lot back in those days what with so many creeks close by. Bridges was so named because you couldnt get to it without crossing a bridge, of which there were four at the time.
Im sadly told the Columbus Dispatch came down to Elmers back in the 70s and did an interview on one of the last old fashioned stores still operating in Ohio , and a few weeks later some thugs came in and murdered Elmer and burned the store. The Leaverton family has a cemetery named after them just up the road, they were a large family and well respected in the community.

Conor, a good idea for breaking the mental roadblock to creativity. Maybe you haven't thought of this, try your idea on a CFL bulb, but don't break it yourself, it contains HAZMAT and can be dangerous to your health. Search Google for broken CFL bulbs to garner ideas for the sketch.

New Artwork: 'The Nature of Dreams'

A surreal dreamlike scene of a tree flourishing on a floating island. The Nature of Dreams reflects both the mysterious architecture of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur subconsciously in the mind while sleeping, and a Utopian world where nature is free from mankind’s destruction.

The artwork was made from a series of photographs that were digitally edited and blended together with Photoshop.

My most recent sale "Cattle on a Hill" reminds me of our farm when I was a kid. We would have to go bring in the cows for milking and feeding, which were always way up the creek and back on top of the hill where the most green grass would be. I remember pestering my big brother Dane to give me a chew of that [ Big Red Man Tobacco], well kids are not as smart as their big brothers. He knew when I would be running after the cows I would have to keep up and I would be chewing and swallowing the juice [to be a man you had to swallow the juice] .
Well let me say as a young kid it was a lesson on just how not to beg for what you can't handle yet or how sick one can get, when he turns as green as the grass. I made it all the way back down to the creek where I sat down on a big log and thats as far as I got. After they milked the cows and had supper and it was getting dark Dad sent him back up after me. He found me laying over a log surrounded by those big ole black and yellow Bumble Bees [another story]. Mom and Dad laughted about it and never said any more they already knew I had had enough, I've never had another chew in my mouth since. Uncle Ran

Latest blog post: Upcoming Exhibition: ‘Perhaps?’ at Catalyst Arts, Belfast

I am taking part in a group exhibition called ‘Perhaps?’ at Catalyst Arts, Belfast, which opens on Monday 26th May and runs for 4 days until Thursday 29th May. I will be showing my latest photographic artwork which conveys the mystery, insecurity and peculiarity of night-time. These pieces were part of my final project for the end of my 2nd year in Fine Art at university. My work was heavily influenced and inspired by the dramatic photography of Gregory Crewdson, Ryan Schude and David LaChapelle.

THE BEST Valentine Verse Ever

Years ago me and a friend were writing Valentine's Day verses.

You know the type:

Roses are red violets are blue

It has been so long ago I now cannot remember who wrote it.

Did I write it, did my friend write it, did we write it together or did someone else write?

Sorry I cannot remember.

_____

When you and I are far apart
May trouble never break your heart

I in other lands may roam
Sleep and dream of you alone

All I think I cannot say
Night may come and also day

With you on my mind
You in the poem the question find

________

Written I believe in 1973

Can you find the question?

________

If you cannot find the question then read the first comment below the verse in the Comedy Cat Blog at the link below:

When driving home from shooting the Boston skyline during severe thunderstorms, I noticed the message MR 20! on the Boston Prudential Center. New Artwork: Self Portrait

In my practice I use a variety of mediums to make art and I wanted to create an image that could illustrate this. While experimenting with ways to combine drawing and photography, I created this self portrait which seamlessly unites the two. This artwork is an example of the endless possibilities that art has to offer in our modern digital age.

Commission: St. John’s School And Chapel – Annaghmore

Here is my latest commission which I completed just before I started back at university at the end of September – St. John’s School and Chapel – Annaghmore: A commissioned pencil drawing of a small primary school and classic chapel situated in Annaghmore in County Armagh. The drawing was a woman’s gift to her husband on his birthday. He attended this school and chapel when he was younger, so he has fond memories and strong connections to both.

In my latest blog, I wax a bit philosophical. Those of you who are fellow baby-boomers may be able to read between the lines and hopefully find a hint of thoughtful comfort.

I started my Wordpress Blog a few years back and it's definitely taken on a life of its own. At that time I discovered that maintaining my own gallery page was cumbersome and that is when I discovered Fine Art America. It was such an easy solution to just re-direct my gallery page to FAA. Now, several years later I am discovering a dynamic and interactive community at FAA and I'm thinking why not re-direct my FAA blog page to Wordpress, is this a lights on moment for me or am I just the last person to think of the idea? If you are interfacing your blogs, i'd like to hear how its working for you.

Here is my latest post: http://artspiritvillage.com/2015/02/01/larger-than-life/

Only a couple of weeks old, but I am working on new content so that I can add in some additional pages. Content is king they say, so would rather spend a little bit of time getting it right. The link is http://beechhousemedia.co.uk

It's a hobby for me, but I am intrigued just how far and wide the reach is. I'm based in the UK but my visitors are generally from the USA, (Beverly Hills, New York) and yesterday I noticed that Russia, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, France and Switzerland had all visited. Well, one or two from each country, but aside from me being on Google+ but not really doing anything with it, and my Facebook page facebook.com/beechhousemedia I haven't advertised it as yet. The site has still had nearly 1000 views this week, I put that down to my formula for search engine optimisation which comes from my inner geek.

I'm working on creating a responsive CSS style for the blog but I'm a bit poorly at the moment so it's not on the immediate to do list, but I think it will add some value to the blog. I am, as part of creating some new content, writing about art in general and my experiences with print on demand. Hopefully I'll be able to at least get some of those posts up soon.

Great to see that others are writing blogs, and you all have some great work posted. More than happy to put some of your links on my link page when I create it, if you want me too.

Okay, it's not really my latest blog, but it's the one most pertinent to a contest I am entered in right now and the charity is so deserving of extra attention. They are in the midst of building a new building for a group of children who are currently meeting under a tree in the jungle and have no shelter or supplies. The volunteer teacher is very imaginative thank goodness, but I'd love to see these kids have a better start in their education. http://fineartamerica.com/blogs/giving-back-friends-of-la-penita-kindercare.html

If you feel so inclined, please vote for my art as well, so that the charity can receive recognition in a published Magazine as well. Thank you FAA family!

My latest blog is actually showcasing the work of a wonderfully talented videographer (my son in law!) ... and is one of my personal favorites, so far. A beautiful nostalgic look at small town life in the US that really takes me back to my own childhood. I hope you all enjoy it, too!! And yes, there's a bit of typical shameless self promotion for my photography, but the highlight really is the video.

: ))
