Empathism

I'm sorry and very disappointed that the individual had so little understanding to have to email me.

I wasn't referring to any particular image by any particular artist - I was referring to any image, artwork, our reaction is always one of the extremes or somewhere in between. There was no intention to "yuk" any of Jean-Francois' work.

I didn't when I needed to and still don't give two worn pennies for "art speak". Back when I was working on my BFA - it was so much BS - someone trying to impress the professor or another artist with words that meant nothing but chatter - art speak. Perhaps others were impressed with someone's ability to make up stuff about the work - I never could - it was pretty straight forward - there was no hidden meaning or agenda in my painting and drawing. Art is art, it is good, it is bad, it is somewhere in between. the composition is good, the workmanship is noted, the overall visual appeal, the choice of color, tone, etc. That's what makes art and when you begin talking about it almost any other way - it's chatter, often meant to impress the marks. And I just don't 'grok' it.

Honestly, ... I can't associate what you are showing me at all with what you are telling me.

And from 30 years in advertising/ commercial art, etc., ..... it's a no sell.

There is beauty all around us, if we have the eyes for seeing it vs searching for it.


A denial by someone, that something doesn't exist, ....doesn't make it so.

It is a matter of Consciousness. It's a choice.

That could be defined as empathy, although usually empathy is associated with a person's ability to inherently understand what others are feeling. Me, I'd probably lean more toward osmosis than empathy by this description, but it doesn't matter. Jean-Francoise could call his movement "Popsicle Stick" if he wanted to. It's his idea, he gets to call it what he wants. :)

I don't see empathy as the right word for the "movement" you are starting, but I'm not sure what would be. I like your beautiful paintings, some of which are described as "creation of the universe," and others with reference to "god," so I think I see where you are coming from (although I am an atheist). MM, that is great -- I'll have to watch that movie again. Roy, I don't see any "yuk" in his paintings, personally. Each to his own.

I may be dating myself here, but does anyone remember the Fred Astaire/Audrey Hepburn movie "Funny Face?" In that movie the Audrey Hepburn character was kind of a "beatnik" type who followed a philosophical movement called "Empathicalism" which turned out to be a bunch of nonsense. This reminds me of that movie.

Appears to me to just be another art abstract, about average from what I've seen. I have no clue what you mean by "empathic response". the image evokes some response - between "WOW!" and "YUK".
