Would Like Some Fractal Advice

Most of my work is representational with Impressionistic and Expressionistic elements but I also like abstract so I would like to get some software to try some fractal compositions. I am not sure what to order so I thought I would see if anyone here has some suggestions.

Thanks! Art Prints

I use Sterling, Apophysis, Incendia, Ultra Fractal and a few others, too. I might try using some of them t make stained glass.

I use the free Sterling2 for all of mine...you can go to my gallery here http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/rose-santucisofranko.html?tab=artworkgalleries&artworkgalleryid=162600 to see the variety of fractals you can create with this simple program...the only one I've ever been able to figure out how to use!

Deb Benoit has some good ones:

I've been at this for a while and I still can't get mine to look even remotely like these. Stunning work all the way around.

I was also going to link to some of Karin Kuhlmann's as I consider her a Fractal Master, but she doesn't seem to be on FAA any more?

Zeana, I have Apophysis but have never really figured out how to get creations as good as what I see on FAA or on the Deviant Art site. I went to your link for the tutorials. I see lots of posts about the tuts, but no actual tutorials. I clicked on the home page and saw the link to tutorials and clicked on a few of them. But, again, just conversation posts, no actual tuts. What am I missing, and how do I get to them?

Dave -- Xeno's an excellent 3D & fractal program - as are Vue/Eon Software & Visions of Chaos

I see you're well into Zbrush -- also one of my favs.

Ditto Betsy -- Incendia's amazing -- and free!

Daz 3D is fun for familiarizing with basic 3D modelling -- also freeware.

In addition to some of the ones above, I also use Incendia EX
Have fun - it's ADDICTIVE!

Roseann, thanks.

Kendall, some will and some won't. You'll have to check each app. Apophisys I don't believe does.

David - Xeno dreams I think does 3D fractal modeling.

Anybody do any 3D modeling/rendering here? and do you know where any good 3D fractal model generators can be found?

Thanks Roy! They are great!

And I'll have to say - since what "I" do is not really fractals - that Dan T does them the very best - they are truly works of art.

One more question. Will this software work with a Mac OS X version 10.6.8?

I'm on board with everyone's recommendations Kendall -- nice thing about Apophysis for experimenting is that it is freeware.

You're going to love this part of the journey -- look forward to seeing your creations.

Here's a website that I've found to be very useful:

http://fractalarts.com/ASF/

Talks about all the Fractal apps they know about, including Ultra Fractal, which is a good one. I have that one.

Kendall, I went through several fractal programs before settling on Ultrafractal a few years back.

If you're familiar with how layers work in Photoshop, they work the same way in UF. At $69 I think it is a bargain. In addition to letting you do all the simple, no-brainer, fun stuff, it allows for deep exploration of fractals and color so you can create art.
