FOUND PROBLEM with D800e
And why didn't work properly
Since I use battery pack first time, never really used on other cameras
I have learned that battery must be put in camera and battery pack otherwise will not work properly
I only had it in battery pack...

Happy that I didn't have to ship it back ..

There was a firmware update for the D800(e) camera in April, although you're right Rich, Nikon do seem to issue far fewer updates than Canon. That may or may not be a good thing, as new features sometimes accompany an update.

My D800e has never skipped a beat. Some minor niggles, then again I used to have some of those with my old Canon system. These days I stay with the system that gives me less headaches :)

Christine,

No "firmware" updates on your camera? They must have theri act together as compared to Canon!

I've not experienced with my Nikon D800e what DWN is saying, and I've already taken thousands of shots with it.

However, I have experienced the very same thing many times with my Canon. I had to detach the lens and attach it again before the camera started to work again. Thankfully no Nikon D800e problems so far whatsoever. Knock on wood!

DWN,

Probably a recent "firmware" update that was missed when the camera was on the shelf, waiting to get shipped. Was it switching from one card to the next?

@rich

Yes slightly exposed is right
And I have problem with camera too

In middle of cubs standing up camera won't take any more pictures....
So when I reset to factory defaults it corrects that ....but soon I try to change white balance the way I wanted
It quits again ......something is not right ....and I ain't happy

Calling Nikon tomorrow

DWN,

Do you still have the place to yourself?

"The only area in which the D800 feels even remotely sluggish is its rather pedestrian frame rate which - in FX mode - tops out at 4fps." And in DX it's 5fps. Other than the speed, how does it handle the extremes of dark and light, snow and brown bears? Are you slightly over-exposing for these shots?

Rich

On a list of "dream" things, is a mid-eighties "Blue Bird" and a full tank od diesel and a good GPS!

I haven't had a chance yet to explore video part ....I am in the field from whee hours to whee hours ...
This is my busiest time of the year ....sometime in July will slow down...

I did however found out that u can't shoot this camera like machine gun...
I am used to be trigger shutter happy with my other cameras...

This one is little slower ....but I am getting used to it ....
Shot grizzlies today in Yellowstone and Tetons ....and I am pleased with quality ....

I will post when I do video part I hope soon .....

DWN,

Good idea! Is the 800 as good as the Canon 5D MKIII for video? I haven't heard any reorts on the Nikon? But I know full length movies have been shot on/with the 5D.

For example I would use second slot for shooting video with that camera
That way you have video on one and still shots on another

Rich Franco

Christine,

Thanks. The 1Ds MKIII I'm using has both the compact flash and SD card slot, but I've never had any reason to use the second slot. Although, it seems SD cards are much cheaper than the comparable compact flash cards,

You can set it a few ways ... automatic switch when one card is full then move on to the other (no message) ... Raw here, jpg there ... or just as a backup.

DWN,

Can't wait to see the new images!

Christine, is it automatic, the switch from the big card to the small card or do you get a message to switch?

Rich

Rich, one slot is for a compact flash card and the other one is for a SD card.
I set my NIKON D800E to use one as the major and the other as the backup.

Pushing the ISO on the 800E becomes earlier a problem than it does on the 800D.

@rich

I did a test tonight and pushed to 6000 ISO and it was excellent
I am a person who doesn't like high ISO .....

Max I use is 400
Almost always 200

But this camera does wonders at 6000 iso
I was impressed .....

It comes handy when u have bear and it's only a dot in a woods....with
36 megapixels crop factor is amazing ....

I am in love again :)

DWN,

Are those card slots for compact flash cards or a compact flash card and a SD card, like Canon has? Let us know about pushing the ISO on the new 800E,

Rich
