Everything looks wonderful, Gene, but I wonder if the iris needs a bit more detail?

No critique on the work itself, Gene. Love the details in the newspaper. I do see that little bit of glare at the top from the camera, though, but it's not too distracting for a print I don't think. Would like to hear what others say about it - it doesn't bother me because it's not "glaring glare" if you know what I mean.

If there is a slight glare - I thought it was just the Impasto effect of the wall.

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more detail on the left side of the Iris to secure the eye from wandering out of the composition.

Gene, nice job with this still life painting. My eye was immediately drawn to the detail in the newspaper and vase.

In my opinion the composition and the color choice of the main objects are not very successful: especially I do not like a newspaper in a middle of the composition and the overal blue tone of the coffee pot, vase and a newspaper ( all of them have almost the same color and value, which makes the painting boring).The composition of the painting shows that the red apple on the left side takes all attention and makes it a main point of interest which is , I believe, wasn't meant to be . Also the light source seems to be coming from the right hand of the painting while the shadows on the the background shows the oposite.

I thank you all very much for your kindness and sweetness. Most of you are overly generous with compliments, enen tho I realize my painting is far from perfect. My style of painting obviously does not suit some, - just as I do not care much for some styles of art myself.
However, I have found that the most affective and acceptable critizisms are those that are sandwiched between reasonably nice. For example, if someone asked me for an opinion on a painting and I did not particularly care for it, I would start by saying something like.... I can see you really put a lot of effort into it. You really have a lot of potential as an artist. ... Then offer a little constructive critizism without totally butchering the painting.......then finish off by saying something encouraging. But thats just me.
