Just wondering how many of those that have made disparaging remarks about this particular continent ( poverty, corruption, etc. ) ever step foot on this amazing land.

Of course, there's poverty and corruption, as there is everywhere on this globe...and in every era in our human history.

I agree with 2 of the 3 verbs initially presented by Wilson.

EXPLORE.....A great place to trek with others.....But still a wonderful place to wander off on one's own.

And to:

Discover....All that has been presented to you..and all you find on your own, when travelling with an open mind and heart.

But:

To DREAM?.....that comes later......for there is too much to see and do.

So, Wilson let me say,"Hujambo".... And, Welcome to this part of the globe

Edit:

Wilson,

This fine drawing, represents the complete Joy. found in the People

And this wonderful painting represents the Pride imbued in All.

It is a place that I have always wanted to travel to, since my pre-teen years. Dangerous, yes. It was not the danger that had attracted me, but for the amazing and diverse wildlife. Certainly not the same as the years have passed. Very sad. (As is Madagascar with the destruction of habitat for the animals there.) It will always remain as a most spectacular place.

I think of two distinct places. The savannah, the spectacular wildlife, the mysterious jungles, flower and fauna. The continent where all life began thousands of years ago. Then, depressingly I think of mass, never ending poverty, starvation, dictators, disease, apartheid.

Depends on the country (Africa is not a country but a continent with many countries, traditions, cultures and landscapes). If it is south Africa a think on surf and see.
On the Middle Savanes, lions, elefants.
On east on Muslim Churchs, war, pourverty, etc.
O west I think on Beachs and more savanes, Diamond mining. Also people speaking Portuguese.
On north I think on deserts, snakes. Also on People speaking French and Arabic.

What Africa means to me.

The Amazing Assault on All of the Senses..

..From the tantalizing aromas emanating from the souks in Marrakesh,.... to the nightly sounds of grunting hippos coming up from the Ngororongora Crater,...... From the pure taste of Ethiopian coffee... to the blazing colors of the attire parading along the streets of Nairobi... the caressing warm breeze, while sailing down the Nile....

And the beautiful open smiles of the people..
