Today it's raining in Los Angeles, a big deal when you live in the desert, and as I look out my window at the shiny streets, I realize that I don't have one photograph or piece of art that shows a scene in the rain.
How about you? Have any rainy-day work? This popular artist certainly has his share:
Beautiful! I'm really anxious to get some of those night scenes. Especially the lights reflecting off the streets and sidewalks.
When I moved to "Hollywood" and worked in movies, one of the first things I noticed when I worked at night was that there was always a big water truck standing by. I soon learned what it was for: just before shooting, they would water down the streets. It didn't matter if the scene called for rain or not: they wanted that reflection to add eye candy to the shot.
Next time you watch a movie, look for the night scenes and see if the streets are wet.
Beautiful image, Chuck! It is the Place de Tertre in Monmartre, indeed a special place... I was inspired by the artists with their umbrellas in my painting, you intuited very well. And yes, the streets are slightly wet.....:)
Some great rain images posted overnight. Thank you!
Last night I intended to drag my lazy butt outside and take some reflection shots, but... noooo. The raining stopped before sunset, the sun came out, everything dried out, and sprinkling didn't start up again until sometime in the wee hours of the night.
I wanted to recapture this shot in the rain at night:
Rain in the Arizona Desert, south of Rodeo, NM. And of course, before the rain, if I remember prevailing wind conditions there correctly, at the point where I stood. And in the far background, it would be after the rain.
