Do you actually have to live in Oregon in order to submit art?

This call is for artists of Oregon.

Hi Audrey,

Thank you so much for your announcement,

Please grant me a few minutes of your time and browse in this collection of photographs.
I'm convinced that you will find something that would fit in your publication and be great enjoyment for your readers.

Q - the collection
An elite collection that will take your breath away. Handpicked photographs, digitally altered or not, that are representing the best on a level that appears only in leading magazines. Artists, featured in this collection, are the crème de la crème and are proud to have the opportunity to display their work for you.

Thank you again
All the best
Gunter Nezhoda

Hum Gunter are all of them from Oregon?

i'm still wondering why you need such a large image, though you didn't say size, so i guess any size would be fine as long as it can compress down to a small size.

the things that bother me about this is:

you don't have a real email address - it goes to yahoo, it should go to your magazine.
and why you need 3 images.

@Gunter don't put words in my mouth she stated above Oregon folks only.

@Mike I too am wondering the same and the "magazine" is on a free web service site.

Mike,
First and foremost, please view our local news broadcast http://www.kpic.com/news/local/New-local-art-magazine-now-available-204296221.html
We are advertised through Brooke Communications, and also soon to be with SOPTV.

You need a large file because the magazine is being printed and you don't want your good work to look like junk, that creates a bad image for all parties involved. You can find information about DPI and File size importance and step for step how to get it here: http://baubleart.webs.com/understanding-dpi

You need a minimum of three images because with any fewer, it's really hard to put together an article that is supposed to be about the work of an artist and advertise for them where people can go to purchase that work from the artist, if it doesn't show their work.

I am using a yahoo account and a free web hosting account because this is a start up project.
My business is registered as Bauble through the state of Oregon, you can look that up if you wish.
I as well have a business bank account set up for this, as this publication is primarily published with the funding our advertisers. If you'd like to know who they are, please do see this page: http://baubleart.webs.com/sponsors and feel free to contact them.

You can find the answers to most of you questions at http:://baubleart.webs.com
If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask.

Every artist who has quality work get one full page of FREE advertisement. You as an artist, call the local public television service, radio station, news paper, in your area ad ask them for free advertisement, good luck on having them fork over $1200 worth of free advertisement space for you to profit from selling your work due to the exposure you get from them...

It costs me $3000 every month for publication costs, not to mention the 15 hours a day that I work at this unpaid, to help artists get their work out there for the public to see, so that the public may contact that artist to buy the work from the artist who made it..... and you think it's unacceptable that I request an artist who wants two- six pages of advertisement to which they will profit greatly, to donate a small portion of what that space is worth......

I will not accept artists from any where out side of Oregon. Bauble was stated with Oregon in mind. There are lots of big cities that have a rather well developed art scene. There are not many cities in Oregon that do have a big art scene. I want to help build that. I want to find these artists in the most secluded places of Oregon, and get there work out to some of the bigger cities that I have distribution points in, and just to bring some awareness to what is actually available right here in Oregon. Personally, I would rather pay a little extra on a piece of art, a skirt, a jar of jam, from someone that I know has hand made it, as opposed to going to Wal Mart and buying a crappy version of the same thing. It is my goal with this magazine that I may show others these hand made alternatives in hope that they will start seeking out to buy these things that support our local crafts people.

Every one has to start some where, and I am making my start with this. If you cannot appreciate that, then that is fine, because there are alot of other people that do. Meanwhile, my time right now is a precious commodity, as this is an all day every day devotion of my life right now. I do not feel this conversation is a very productive consumption of my time anymore. Good Day.

Here is a very popular one. http://hifructose.com/submit/ This one is by a significantly larger company and you must go through the process of having your website reviewed by the one who fields all art submission requests before you can actually submit work for review by the editor. If you do not live in Oregon, this may be another place that you can get your work published, however they publish only a specific style of art. I hope this helps you. I'll look around and try to find you others.

the reason your getting the third degree is - we get these offers all the time here. you being on a free web server, using a yahoo address, asking for 3 full size images, without contract, and i didn't see a terms of service on that page either. makes us all rather weary to send our images to an unknown source. anyone can place an ad on some other place. and your magazine can be totally legitimate, but being a front for something else. like tony's pizza might be great, but it's a cover for a money laundering scheme. you could be totally legitimate, but without those few things we all take a few steps back.

if you don't want to appear like a con (not to me anyway) have the following:

1. a real web address (don't cheap out with a free one), i don't have a magazine, but i do have a real space and a domain name.
2. get a real email address, you can get them with the account you'll make.
3. we need to see your contract and your terms of service. we aren't going to just send anything.
4. and if there is any kind of money involved on our part, that should be spelled out as well whether its free or not.

handing our full size images without a promise of what you plan on doing with it (is it a full size spread? are they 1/4" picture etc, without giving us money,) but instead i'm sure your charging magazine. we might get advertisement, but to a limited audience. most magazines give you money. anyway these are red flags that pop up when we read this, or at least i read this. just thought you should know as a bit of friendly advice.

Audrey, to help confuse people less you might want to change the title of the thread to Call to Artists from Oregon. Then those of us who are not from Oregon won't waste our time coming in here.

Also, what Mike said.

Isn't there a number missing from the phone number?

Area Code 541:

From Wikipedia:
"North American area code 541 covers the majority of Oregon, except the northwest part of the state. Its service area includes the cities of Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany, Medford, Bend, Ashland, The Dalles, and Pendleton, as well as the coastal region from Lincoln County to the California border. It began its split from area code 503 on November 5, 1995, and finished June 30, 1996. It is overlaid with area code 458, effective February 10, 2010.

The 541 area code also is found in a small part of northern California in the northeast corner of Del Norte County through Frontier Communications; these numbers are 541-596-XXXX,[1] which also serves the O'Brien, Oregon area of the Redwood Highway. This is one of the very few exceptions of an area code crossing a state line."

"You need a large file because the magazine is being printed and you don't want your good work to look like junk"

No, YOU need a large file in order to embellish your magazine with our work. Sorry, but for that, you need to pay the going rate for an appropriate license.

maybe the title of thread should change to "call to Oregon artists"?

Mike, Thank you for your advise. I have spoken with my adviser Sam Gross at Umpqua Small Business Development Center, and other local business people when I attended Roseburg Start-Up Weekend, upon their advise, I do not feel that a private domain name and an email is something that is necessary at for me at this time. When I can do business with Southern Oregon Public Television and Brooke Communications, and Umpqua Community College with the set up that I currently have, I don't see that as a big issue for me right now. This may change in the future.

As far as having an artists' contract, I do have one. I felt it would look tacky to put that on my web page, what do you think? What I have currently been doing is that when an artist contacts me, I then email them the contract for review. I will paste it in here, but do note that it's a formatted word document that may not copy/paste well since there is no way to format this typing area. Let me know what you think, if there is anything that you think needs changed. I am still learning a lot about this new venture. I as well have a marketing kit and advertisement contract for the small business' that have advertised with us, which is a bit different than this.
