Question:

if i add this "create a page for my business" in my existing facebook account, will i be exposing my existing friends and family list to my business page? I don't want some my other family members snooping around or vice-versa...you know what i mean....LoL ;P

or should I open a different facebook account for my artworks and artist friends?

Your page is totally seperate from your profile, on your page only goes what you want and is not linked to your profile or vice versa unless YOU link it. Your profile is your family and friends only side. The page is your art page.

You must not have two facebook acocunts. It is totally against their Terms of Service and you can have both accounts deleted if they find out.

Ok in RSS Graffiti,
find the page and click that (in the application, dont actually go to the page) then, where it asks for your RSS link,
Your link is http://fineartamerica.com/rss/artwork/nancy-craig
Pop that in and make a title for it.

Then you have to Grant Access to post. You may have to do that twice...

It will not appear on your page immediately but the next time you put an image on FAA it should show automagically on your FB page.

I hope everyone has as much fun with their Facebook page as I have! It's been so nice to have a little targeted group of people who like my paintings I can show brand new work and get pretty much instant feedback. They are the best, I even recently offered a gift of some promotional stickers to any fans and had great response. I can't imagine where I could find a better group to help to distribute my little marketing materials!

To point newly uploaded images to your own artists page, instead of to your profile,

why not post my work directly to my facebook albums? i can make my artist website appear in my facebook without linking to the RSS feed

Hey all;
I've been discovering a few things about the Facebook pages that were not obvious to me and may be worth sharing. (Facebook geniuses, please ignore this). These are specific to the artists' fan pages. They're posted below. Also, maybe somebody (Beth?) can repost the info and instructions about setting up FB carts and shops here in the FB page thread? Would be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. Get the address for your public page - the one that can be seen outside Facebook. Log off facebook (don't forget your password), then go to google. Google search the your artist page name followed by the word facebook.

For example, I searched Dreaming Between the Lines Facebook on google.

This will bring up a link to your publicly visible fan page - the page people can see even if they're not logged in to facebook. Copy the address from the browser's address bar and paste it somewhere safe. This is the most useful address to get your Facebook page out to people.

Again, for example, my google search brought up this link

2. Tell us how to find your FB Artist page. Copy the address from suggestion 1 and post it here in this thread. This also gives you a way to find it again.


3. Use the address you got from googling (suggestion 1) to link the internet (your websites , email signatures, etc) to your facebook page. The address gotten by googling while logged out will ALWAYS take people to your Artist fan page. If they're not on Facebook or not logged in, they'll see a little bar for facebook login above your page. (otherwise people may get bumped off to a login screen).


4. To see a public google-accessible page as in 3, use the example address I brought up using google.

What do you see when you paste it into your browser?

The public address you get from googling your page is also the address that works best in tools like Stumble Upon.

Breaking this up for easier readability. The following are for working with Artist Fan pages within Facebook


5. Fan pages have a public non-facebook version that can be seen by anyone on the internet. Group pages have extra Facebook communication features but no public visibility outside Facebook. Think about this when choosing your page type AND when deciding what info to post.

6. If you also have a normal facebook personal page, try this: While logged into Facebook, use facebook's search bar and search for your artist's page name. This will take you to the version of your artist page that everyone else on Facebook sees (you normally see a special version for owners). You can click the 'like' box and become a fan of your facebook artist page.

7. While you're on your artist page as a generic facebooker, look at the column of stuff on the left side of the page. Right under your profile photo there are a few lines of tiny text in blue. One of these lines reads 'recommend to friends'. If you have a personal page with a lot of friends, clicking this text lets you invite a bunch of them to your Art-only page. This is a good idea because they'll have a separate way to check in and see what you're doing artistically. You're less likely to get lost in all of the kids in school, sick day, happy vacay snaps and other typical Facebook chatter.

8. Get some pictures up and drop us a note here when you're ready!

I've known about Sean since before I joined - his name came up in my minor due diligence on the site. The Brian alias was just very confusing.

A number of the links in the list up top take me back to my own Facebook page. I think this is a Facebook glitch (hence the post about how to find the link to the public page version).

Trying to type while a bratty cat slams his fuzzy black tail onto my keyboard. He's pissed because the computer desk isn't the right shape for a proper cat stretch and his feet drip off the edge. Sigh.

OK, how are you all copying your Facebook Badge into this discussion. I've tried 10 different ways and none of them work.

I don't know how others have but I was already logged in to my FB page in another window then I just clicked under a badge someone else posted... like under mine where it says in blue "promote your page too" . It took me to my FB page that has a green tab at the top labeled " promote your page" I scrolled down a bit and on the right you'll see in blue "get your badge" . Click on that and on the page that pops up it will say "choose where to add the badge" , choose "other". The code will appear, then right click, copy and then right click and paste it in a message here.

No, a fan page is not the same. On the fan page you don't get a news feed or see your friends pages so its for marketing/networking. You get statistics in graphs about your page and its open to the public. You can set limits on it if you want people to be able to post comments, pictures, links and videos, or not. You will still have your personal profile page too and can check both when you log in.

My Facebook page for my art is Akermans Art. You have to friend it, I found for me it's easier this way and several of my artist friends use similar structures instead of just a Fan Page. Both ways are great to get your name and work out there.

Hi Beth. I wont add yours to the above section as I only add pages. I have added profiles n the past but soon people realise that pages are the proper way to do it and the profiles are then defunct. Also profiles, according to Facebook are for family and friends only and they are starting to come down harder on people that use them for business.

FAA Facebook shop no longer works on profiles and I think many more changes are coming to FB soon.

Another reason is that FB are bringing in 'proof of friendship' and we are seeing more and more people unable to make many friends (5000 is the limit as it is) whereas pages have no limits placed on them.

Your comment above on the pros and cons and differences in FB profiles and pages is very informative. Although I have been a member of Facebook for quite a long time, a couple of years... until they made major changes recently, especially on privacy and copyright issues, I was not active until only about a week ago. Knowing this now I wish I could import all my fans, friends, photos, likes and favourited pages and links ..... to my new pages. Now I will need to duplicate so much of my work and time invested as I focus on my pages Sharon Mau Photography and Dimensions instead of my personal profile...

Randall get the link to your facebnook page. THEN go to the marketing area and where you got that, put YOUR address in the address area. It will then show yours.

For all the FB folks out there who are a little familiar with html, you may want to try your hand at creating a "landing page" for your FB artist page.
It is the default page for visitors to your FB page who haven't "liked" your page yet. The idea is you make it more attractive than your Wall or you announce special promotions etc and ecourage vistors to "Like"
Or you could make your FAA "Shop" page your landing page.

This is excellent information~ I started to create my fan page last week, but I get lost on how you get to your fan page logging in? I am sure that is a simple step..

When I get into my fan page, some reason it won't let me start setting things up. So could I have missed a step on here?

On your profile, look at the tab Account. If you have a page it will show on that Use Facebook As Page.

Just click that and you will be logged in as though you are the page itself.

Once you have finished with your page, go to Account and use Facebook as Chrisann again

Yes, that is your badge.

Make your badge, then copy ALL the code they give you. Then come and paste it in here and submit. You wont see it until you click submit.

Just FYI, (and i could be wrong) this may not be as big of a deal to anyone with other types of work? but on facebook, any photo you are offering for sale, can be downloaded for free. the only way to control this, is to control who is allowed to see your photos. and if you have to control who can see your photos, it kinda defeats the point of having a fanpage? to prove my point, i went to two random pages from the above list and downloaded a picture....

As they say in the Netherlands with more luck than wisdom..... Try this:
- Go to your Artist page on Facebook. In the address bar of your internet browser copy the the internet address of that page (in my case that is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jo-Beerens-photography/101973396548326)
- Go to this page on Facebook http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box
- In the field below Facebook Page URL you paste the address of your Art page that you copied in step one
- I unticked the boxes of the fields Show faces and Show header but you could leave them in if wanted.
- When the box looks like you want it to be press the button Get code
- A smaller window with the title Your Like box plugin code pops up. Copy all of the text in the Iframe field.
- You can paste the text as is into the Post Reply box of this forum thread on FAA.

Hope these basic steps help.

I have liked a few artists Fan Pages - in the left margin under 'total number of likes' there are photos of artists that I pressume also like that specific page...however when I click on see all... my profile pic does not appear there... Leana, it will be there for other people but there is no reason for you to see yourself so it wont show you, you.

Eric, that is a profile and, as in all honesty you are not allowed to sell from personal profiles, I do not add them to the list. You need a business page, (an artists page) to sell your work from and for people to 'LIKE'. The instructions are at the top of the top post :)

Francie, You can like from whichever you want :) I like from my profile but how you do things is up to you :)

In the beginning I liked all pages in my personal capacity... but then their updates only show on my personal page and nothing on my Fan Page... so I went in search of all my likes... took a while to discover where to find them... anyhow... wrote them all down... was close to 100... then I went into each of those pages and liked in my Fan Page capacity. I also picked up today that a Fan Page liked my Fan Page, but it was not added to the counter... I liked the 'Facebook FanPage' FanPage and left a question on their wall regarding this... will have to see if they respond. Personally I feel, no matter who likes your page, or in what capacity... it should be added to the counter...

Roseann. When you have a site and you place one of those somewhere, you are more likely to get clicks on the like button.

Many people like to be in with the crowd and these show what you have done recently and the crowd that like you already.

Leana, Thanks for that info. I agree; anytime you like a fan page it should count whether you're liking from your personal page or your own fan page. But I also went in and "liked" some from my fan page that had been liked from my personal page. Are we confused yet? LOL!!

By time I get on facebook to do promotion or like some fan pages, it's running veeerrrryyyy slow. Anyone else having that issue? I need to set time aside in the morning to "like" other fan pages. Seems to do fine then. Thanks to those who have liked my page!!! I appreciate it!!!

Hopefully, if nothing else, it will make our pages look like we have some interested people..........(those of us pretty much just starting out), so more people will give us a look. Notice I said, hopefully! LOL!!

Remember that you have to "like" from your personal page for it to count. You can still go and "like" from your own fan page, too, but it won't count for the other person. What will then happen is you will get their status updates on your fan page when you change over to log in to your fan page name. It's confusing...........but I'm getting the hang of it.

Hi everyone, 'liked' all the pages since my last post on 28/6/2011. Some really great work!! Thank you to each and everyone whom 'liked' my page too, it is greatly appreciated.

Some are not "liking" from their personal page. If that's how you prefer it, that's totally understandable. But for it to show up for the other artist and count as a "like", you must "like" them from your personal page. I didn't understand this at first either and had to go back and like a lot of artists that I had only liked from my fan page.

Like you, Leana........I see tons of really great work!!! Some very talented people on here........I'm in awe of you all!!!! And a bit intimidated....

Hello all... just 'liked' all the latest additions... I'm up to date now. LOL

With a certain degree of ambivalence I’ve finally succumbed to experimenting with a facebook fan page. Having just set this up I am of course short of the twenty five ‘likes/fans’ needed to secure a username for the page. So, cap in hand as we say in the UK, I’m asking for some help to get the numbers up. I’m more than happy to reciprocate for those folks who need to do the same. You can of course ‘unlike’ at anytime, well, after the count hits twenty five! :-)

I think I have the fb page figured out thanks to Beth's tutorials. Now to wait 24 hours and see if fb co-operates!

I read somewhere that you have to 'like' a page on the page itself or it may not stay as a 'like'.
I see that my page is included in Beth's list...yippee!! Onward!!

You also have to "like" a page from your personal page for it to count. There are some who still aren't getting or doing that, but I'm assuming it's because they really don't "like" me! If you like a page from your business page, it counts as far as you getting their updates, but it does not count as a like for them.

I rarely update my business page. For one thing, I don't like having tons of stuff coming in on others' newsfeeds that they really don't want and another thing....not sure I totally trust fb!!

I don't like seeing others' newsfeeds either - and - I don't trust fb especially since we have to make it available to 'everyone'!! I guess that's the price we pay to get our work out there. My personal page is available to 'friends only' and not available to 'friends of friends'!

I'll try to remember to 'like' the pages when I'm on fb personal page as well as the fan page.

I've finished through the N's. I've begun to notice not everyone is giving Likes as much as they're getting them, so I didn't venture to Like a few who had received numerous Likes and appear to have given out very few. What's with that? I haven't seen anyone's work that repulses me so much, I refuse to give the artist a Like.

One reason that makes sense is FB burnout. You have to be getting tired of giving back FB Likes when you reach a saturation point & it takes too much of your time away from producing art. I'm feeling this way but for now I'll drill down the list to the end & look in on new people as time permits.

@Sylvia - I was unable to get to your page on 2 or 3 tries. Finally got in on the 4th try & liked it.

That happened to me on more than a few of these.

I tried to Like some pages when I got likes but could return then a like as it only had a friends option and no like button so if that is all that is available I was not able to return. I tried as many as I could some just brought me back to my own page. I have had some time to do this others may not have as much free time to like all on this list at one time.

Well I am bleary eyed now! I guess I will be having Facebook nightmares! LOL

if they do that it can mean the page is now closed. Let me know which ones so I can check them.

I agree, Joyce! I hate skipping anyone, but I do tend to skip a lot of the pages that have tons of likes. I'm trying to help those of us that don't have many likes and those who are just starting out. And I have some that I've liked that haven't liked me back.. And, yes.....I'm one who starts feeling that my photos aren't "good enough" for them to like.

It only takes a click to help someone out and like them and it only takes another click to hide their status updates if you don't want to see them. I only do that if someone puts tons of stuff out there every day, taking up my whole newsfeed. LOL! To be honest, it's hard to try and support or comment on everyone's art who I've liked. That would end up taking a good part of my day, so I try to comment or like a few things people post each day to continue the support.

I can relate to how you feel Joyce and Francie... with 'liking' everyone's page and not get return 'likes'... I also 'like' to help pushing up the 'like' count. The way I go about commenting on artwork etc... everyday I check through my newsfeed, when something catches my eye I 'like' that and sometimes leave a comment as well...so there I find the newsfeed helpful.

I double like with both personal and fan pages. If there is a feed you don't want to see, you can always hide it.

@Leana - I pretty much do as you do.

@Joyce - I double liked you before you liked me! lol @Barbara - I double liked you, but you still haven't like me! (Makes me feel like I'm back in grade school lol)

I'll need to go over this list to check everyone out. Be forewarned, though, I only LIKE with my page. The "like" still gets counted, but doesn't show in the count on the page. The page owner sees the different "like" count when viewing insights. I use my personal profile for my family only and would rather spend time seeing their posts in my news feed and not having to hide others just to do that even if it only takes a second to click hide.

My page is used mostly for my Zazzle, though I do post from FAA at times. If I post to Twitter, it posts to my FB, and those posts often have nothing to do with Zazzle or FAA. I use my page to "keep in touch" with those I consider friends, etc, but do not have on my friends list. And I will use it, at times, to vent. That may keep some from liking my page and/or hiding me from their news feed and that is A-OK. It's my page and I use it as I choose to - Just as anyone else has the same choice for their page lol I don't ask for likes. People will like me if they want to. Also, if I like someone, they don't have to like me in return.

I've been following the discussion, so I have liked everyone's pages that's been posted, even though I haven't stated it on each one. Beautiful art work everyone ;-)

Liz, I was doing the same thing, liking from personal and fan page. I mostly like from personal now, so it counts. I need to go back and like some from my fan page, too. Sometimes I do it in reverse......like from my fan page, then click on my own likes and it will show me who I need to like from the personal page. The "like" button will be next to it when I'm signed into my personal page and just doing a quick check on my fan page.

What I've been doing is click on a link, like from Fan Page... sign over to personal page...click on link and like from there... what a process...will do it your way now...

I don't see anything wrong with asking for a reciprocal like. To me, it's what this is all about. Few of us here have had long term friendships. One of the quickest, most meaningful ways to embark upon friendly relationships here is to exchange likes with everyone, not pick & choose who to like & who not to bother with. It makes my day to see that someone cares enough to reciprocate a like. They don't have to be in awe of my work. I don't expect that.

My perception of the psychology of FB likes is this. The number of likes someone is likely to return to everyone is based on how many likes a person already has on their fan page. People who have over, say, 100 likes seem to be more inclined to feel as if it's OK to back off a bit & not have to give likes back to everyone who has given them a like. They may also have other FB like sources such as a blog people visit regularly. As they glean more & more likes through their various sources, they breathe a sigh of relief that they're like "good", i.e., comfortable enough that they don't feel the need to go out of their way to solicit more likes. For people who have only a small number of likes, say less than 50, they're often more amenable to exchanging likes as in: I will give you a like, but I have a right to expect one back.

For now, I'm in the low number likes category & would really like to get all of my likes returned to me. If not, I may remove some of my likes at a later time. I'm not spending my time on this just so that I can give out likes. I want to also get them back & don't see anything wrong with actively seeking to get them reciprocated. For now, anyway. :-)

I'm confused and hoping someone can help. I've decided to start using fb more from my business page, instead of personal page, but am having a few issues. I've "hidden" posts from artists on my personal page so I won't get overwhelmed with updates, but I am still keeping them "liked" so it will count for them/you all. I don't have anyone hidden on my business page, so that I can comment or "like" some posts to keep the support going after the initial "like". Some of the updates that come in from other artists have no "like" button or comment spot for me. Does this mean they've hidden my business page? I understand the whys......either they don't like my art or they don't want other photographers' photos coming in on their business page......and does it come on their publicly viewable page? Some photos are so beautiful that I really want to comment or like and I can't.............I guess it's just the nature of the business-competition??? Anyone??? I'm still learning! LOL! :>)

Could be several reasons. Facebook qlitches a lot for one and not all "shares" display the like link I have noticed. Seems to depend on the type of share. Why the like and comment links are missing from page posts, I'm not sure why. I know if you send a friend request, their posts/updates show immediately on your feed, but like and comment links won't show. Since we don't have to friend in order to like pages, I don't know why our feed would omit them.

Thanks, ladies! I have a lot of fb glitches from time to time, so it may very well be that!! Everytime I learn one thing, there's 2-3 more things I get confused on...........doesn't take much!!

That's probably part of it, yes, but I think fan reciprocation comes in waves. Sometimes people haven't had much time to check into who has liked their page, or if they're posting as their business, they may not immediately be able to flip over to their personal account to do the like.

I wouldn't worry too much about it--it's better to get genuine likes that stick around and remain part of your count and part of your fanbase than to accumulate lots of temporary fans who may be in it solely for the reciprocation and ditch out once you've done so. :) The numbers help, but they don't do you much good if the people behind them aren't actually engaging with your art.

i'm sorry about that. i have deleted it within 2 hours of creating it. its the one time i created something with so much ease, without technical difficulty, had it running smoothly, then wham!!!! spam and drama annoyance ensued from those who called themselves my friends on my personal account. deleted my page immediately, along with my personal account as well.

I'm new here to FAA and new to the Facebook fan pages. I need to get 25 fans so I can get the username for the fan page. Unfortunately, as you all know, the url to the fan page right now (with all the numbers) doesn't work. So, until I can get the 25 fans, I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me with this workaround.

If you go to my personal profile at: http://www.facebook.com/LivingLifePhoto there are posts there with my FAA uploads. Click on any one of those, and it should take you to my fan page where you can like it from there. Thanks!

I am new and trying to figure out the facebook page - fan stuff as well.

I did set up my own fb page for my art:V~Creations, but I don't know how to get you guys the link to like or if it even has a like button on it.

It does connect to the FAA updates so that is great... I am going to work on the suggestions for the welcome page - that was awesome looking.

Last night we had our gallery reception at Arts by the Bay in Havre de Grace, Md. It was a huge turnout, but not a lot of buyers. It was the town's 1st Friday, so that may have been the reason. People just browsing and having a fun time. It was a fun time with friends nonetheless.
