Does the bad gateway messages that we have been receiving lately impact google search results? Like, when a google bot goes to index of our images and the image is not found, did we just lose that image from the google search results or the other search engines?

Very good question John. I would like to hear the answer to that also.

Google treats 502 as downtime and stops visiting the server for a short time. Every server can be down every once in a while for maintenance.

If the site is not "down" for days and days in a row, then 502 has no impact on Google's search results.

Thank you Christine. I wonder how many times google has to receive a 502 before they consider it a bad link and remove you from their index. Like is it 2 times, 3 times, or whatever.

I just can talk from experience with my own site, John.
The server my site is hosted at was down for almost a month with 502 (hardware failed) and it did not have any impact on my google rankings or the google search results for my site.

When the server was up again I resubmitted my site to make sure Google starts visiting again (if it ever stopped).
