How Important Do You Feel Sorting Images Is?

Sorting the images on the Images tab and within galleries?

Do you feel which images are "above the fold" is important?

Do you sort regularly? How often?

And to the original post, I sort every couple weeks. That gives my newest some time up front and then back to the "standard" first two pages which I try and show the diversity and quality of my portfolio. This includes a mix of best sellers, my personal favs, and some that just show some variation in the portfolio.

I have galleries, however for the image page, I try to keep it fresh with a mix of latest sales, new work, and seasonal.

I like what JC said, didn't think of that. Though I have only two pages right now I also have galleries. My FAA store opens to the images. My thinking is that when you go to an art fair or an art gallery you don't see the gallery like to do online. Yo see a group of images together on the wall. I also want to "push" single images to be found like I mentioned in my last post. After a buyer sees the first page or two and likes it they go to the gallery page to streamline things. That is what my stats are telling me. But the first images page should show a range of my work to be like a sign on a bus ... it helps a person to decide if they want to get on the bus or off the bus. That is my take on it.

I sort by Galleries, but only because that's what I prefer to see when entering an artist's site. It just seems neater, to me.

It's easy enough to switch to Images, if I want a broader overview of an artist's work.

IMO, if you have more than three pages of images, you need to do galleries. Otherwise, you need to constantly sort and put your best up front.

I'm still trying to figure it out! My question to all of you is, do you set your default to images or to galleries. I have done both and found better traffic hits when defaulted to images, but is that best for the buyer to see or better the galleries? I keep going back and forth!

Because I work with a lot of series and sets, I have to sort to keep pieces together. Every so often, I also like to bring older pieces to the front, for new viewers and, because I use so many bright colors, I have to keep an eye on whether pieces are clashing or otherwise oddly placed.

My attempts at sorting are pretty random, but I usually do a little housekeeping when uploading new work.

I sort all the time, I watch the stats of who is looking at what and how often. I usually pair a busy viewed image with a low scored one. I also arrange the page like a work of art in itself, so that it has a composition that flows. With this information overload we have online it is said the average person has the attention span of a goldfish: nine seconds. So I want my images page to always look fresh and give people something new to look at even though its been there a while. If they really want to find a certain image, that is what the gallery is for. I also sell stock pictures and the difference with that is the audience is photo editors who know what they are looking for, not consumers.

I'm still working on the classification system for my stuff.

i don't bother. it doesn't help all that much. i think it's better to organize directories than the images themselves. they tend to fill in randomly anyway. i'd like there to be an alphabetical sort, that would work best for me. i have many images, it would take me days to sort them each time.

ALOT, and I sort all the time.
However, the current method here (manually) is eating up way to much of my time.
