With Easter coming up I'm reminded of my dad taking pictures each holiday until he ran out of flashcubes. This is my third and final camera painting...and maybe my favorite.
patricia - no the happy little one is my cousin cathy and the lady in the middle is our aunt. our mothers found these horrible outfits - navy blue serge for cryin' out loud - and thought they were adorable and conspired to make us both wear them. there was not one thing about this outfit that i did not hate. the easter in question was probably 1949 or 1950, and the the humiliation of wearing that outfit is as painful today as it was then - fortunately i do not have to think about it very often. funny how childhood memories stay with one. but, to keep this post on topic, yes i remember flash cubes.
Ginny, you got me laughing. Adorable! Not sure when this was taken, but I had a "pilgrim" easter suit, too. None of mine are digitized (yet) and no real rush to do so, lol. Are you the little one?
Flashcubes???? I remember listening to "Dr. Christian" and my favorite "The Fat Man." Lets see if there are any more old codgers out there besides me and Roger.
I used to enjoy the "dazzle spot" that flash bulbs create. Electronic flash is much shorter in duration, and the reason you don't see after-image nearly as much is due to the fact that light sensitivity of light in the eye and film is affected by very fast or very slow exposures because it is a chemical process which requires time to occur. The "reciprocity curve" of a digital camera sensor is much flatter, resulting in fewer problems in high speed flash (such as my hummingbirds) and very long exposures (such as long astronomical exposures). But we can SEE the difference because electronic flash doesn't dazzle you like flash bulbs did.
Thanks, Jim. I like 'unschooled', maybe because I am. In fact, I shy away from taking classes because I like my style just the way it is. I don't want to be taught 'the right way' to do things. I'm happy that you like it.
Yep, remember those! Nice painting! Unfortunately, I also remember the Easter pictures my parents took with them. Sometimes kids don't look so good in their Easter bonnets, braids and suspenders, lol. Wish I could post, but it's beyond embarrassing.
