In Honor...

Posted by: Dan Daugherty on 02/12/2013 - 9:26 PM

In Honor of my Niece, Jessica who died in her sleep on December 11th, 2012.

Jessica rose up to the challenge of many Physical difficulties she had and overcame them in order to succeed. She achieved her goals of Diploma, Job, and Home, before she passed away. She now has her wings.

So I honor her with this Sculpture, and I will overcome any difficulties in the future, the way she did. I hope this can inspire others also to "Rise up" and overcome.

What a great tribute to your niece.
Your sculpture has turned out great. I've been watching your progress through the discussions over time and its great to see it finished. Great work!
Amazing what an old couch can become. Very inspiring.

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand.

Thanks everyone. A Project I thought was going to be difficult, seemed to fall into place. I learned a lot and had a great time with this one.

Tony...Isaiah 40:31... that was the inspiration...My Favorite verse.

My Hope is that everyone can rise up and overcome those things that try to keep you down.

I will be doing a follow up Video... My Local Ace Hardware man Carl has told me that he would do the music for the video...They are having a grand opening in March and he wants me to bring Jeeves, Abigail and This sculpture to display for the weekend.

LOL...The Hardware store is like My Art supply store!!

Here's Carl...He's the one at the Piano

I'm so sorry, Dan. :(

And what a beautiful sculpture.

That is a beautiful way to honor her memory. I have really been enjoying seeing it is a wonderful work of art.

How cool that you have incense burners and candles worked into the piece!!!

My sympathy Dan for the loss of your beautiful Niece!
Your sculpture is a fantastic idea. Genius!
The video showcases so much talent. The gal singing has a beautiful voice. I saw another YouTube video of Carl's in which he sang as he played the piano. These people are as good as any I've seen on "America's Got Talent". Fantastic guy to be "your man at Ace Hardware". :)

My sympathies for your loss Dan!

The eagle looks fantastic...I wonder what would it look like when lit and on low light...

Thanks for sharing!!!

I'm sorry for the loss of one you loved.
But i think, she will look at you and sometimes, you don't know, how things could going on, she will be there and help you.

If it's an issue with your art, or something personal - she will ever be with you.

i know, this isn't one of my best photos of course, and i didn't post it to get "clicks" on it - but i also will honor her with one of my work...

The more I get to know you,in this Forum, the more I see your beautiful soul come shining through.

A wonderful tribute to a sorrowful loss.

Dan this came out wonderfully with all the work you have done. The ash field, lava and volcano is a great added touch to the outstanding work you have done with the flamed wings. The candles and incense are also another great addition to the final piece.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your niece. What a wonderful way to honor her.

Posted by: Dan Daugherty on 02/13/2013 - 10:32 AM

Thanks Everyone...Thanks Christoph for the rose.

Roger, It's easier to grow and learn among the support of these Great Artists on FAA.

The truth is, I would never have tried to tackle making an Eagles head from a piece of Pipe unless I had the help to overcome the obstacle of thinking I couldn't do it, with just heat, a pair of Pliers and a small vise...No anvil.

It's the encouragement of all of you that makes me push on toward the accomplishment.

And the inspiration of the story of the Phoenix rising out of the ashes is a life lesson. We can all do what we think we can't, It we just try

I am dying to light the candles... Look for a video with the candles lit and incense burning...coming as soon as I can get it together.

that is a beautiful tribute Dan and sorry for your lose and it is just what I would love to have when I win lotto it is beautiful

Posted by: Debra Chmelina on 02/15/2013 - 12:19 PM

That's amazing Dan. Until I saw the work in progress I didn't realize how heavy and solid the sculpture must be. I thought the wings were made from aluminum. That would make a beautiful centerpiece. Thanks for honoring Jessica's memory with us.

Posted by: Shawna Rowe on 02/15/2013 - 12:25 PM

This is such a touching and beautiful way to honor your niece, my condolences to you and your family.

Posted by: Victoria Lakes on 02/15/2013 - 1:11 PM

Beautiful tribute... So sorry for your loss.

Posted by: Dan Daugherty on 02/15/2013 - 1:55 PM

Thank you everyone

Debra, The whole piece weighs in at 34 Lbs. Not really that heavy, but thank God it comes apart in three pieces for moving. The Head, Wing piece, and the stand separate. I like to be sure that anyone who may decide to purchase any one of my sculptures will never have to worry about breakage...Just don't drop one on a tile floor...LOL

Posted by: Lawrence Supino on 02/15/2013 - 3:37 PM

My condolences to you and your family....
A Beautiful tribute,Dan.
