I've seen the pinterest, facebook and twitter threads. I don't believe there is a tumblr thread. Share the link to your tumblr blog here.

I have had a tumblr site for a bit... Started as a place to upload my Moku Hanga Blends I was creating from my images, not I have turned it into a place where I showcase all my work Landscapes, Street, Portraits, Macros and etc... I also post links back to my blog on blogspot....

I'm all for putting my work out there in as many places as possible. I've only recently joined tumblr, so I haven't uploaded much yet. Still learning about the social aspect of it -- and finding my way around. I will go back and follow the rest of you, though -- it will be nice to see some familiar faces on my dashboard!

Thanks to this discussion I've been on Tumblr a little over a month now. It's been a very enjoyable experience. My tumblr blog is getting more notice and I have been helping others as well. It's another way to slowly expand my web presence but it has also become an interesting social hub for me.
Thanks again Andrew for starting this thread and nudging folks like me to try it.

I just made a tumblr account over the weekend, after finding out that a couple of my photos have been stolen and are on tumblr pages. However, I've done nothing with my tumblr..yet. Still figuring it out. I'm guessing this is the url to my tumblr page. http://crystalwightmanphotography.tumblr.com/ add me if you want. At some point I'll add images.

Interesting points, Kay. Teens definitely aren't buying my work, but they sure do share things they like, which spreads my work with a link back to my site all around tumblr.

So I read this article a few days ago and went to search for the link:
http://www.today.com/tech/yes-youve-chased-your-kids-facebook-heres-where-they-went-1C9840070
They say that teens are leaving facebook for tumblr...which isn't so great, because teens aren't really my market. Anyway, just thought it was interesting.
"Tumblr is the most popular social network for teens, outpacing Facebook 61 percent to 55 percent, according to RightMixMarketing. "
though this article says 2013 is the year to get serious about using Tumblr for social networking for the 18-34 year old market.

I only use Facebook to post my work. There's an alternative to Facebook, it's called Zurker. You can earn/buy shares in Zurker. It can take a while to work it out, but it seems like a good place to find people with similar interests.

Tumblr seems to be set up for the artist or the more, um, intelligent person.
Facebook is like the Tower of Babel.

I am so fed up with Facebook's quirks and annoyances so I've been thinking over switching over to something else. Twitter isn't an option so I did some research and was educated a bit about Tumblr. I should have my profile for my business and my personal account shortly. I might even make a portraiture portfolio there if I can figure out how. I'll post my profile when I'm done. No peeking until I'm done. lol

Here is mine: http://albertvallesimages.tumblr.com/ What I like about Tumblr, is that you are able to edit the link of the image you post, and link it up to your FAA site where the image is available for sale.

Back in Feb there were questions concerning posting photos to tumblr. I believe Andrew and yours truly were making reduced quality watermarked images to tunblr and the adding the link to here. I think I found the answer.
see here http://workdayblues.tumblr.com/
1. open fine art
2. new window open tumblr
3.copy link from lower right of your photo
move to tumblr
1.select text
2.on new window select html on the right side of dialog box
3.paste where you would be typing text
4.publish

Hi All,
After reading this thread I too started a blog on Tumblr. The link is http://picturin.tumblr.com/.
I have two questions: is there a way to add keywords without them displaying under the image (be invisible), and how do visitors leave notes or comments? I selected a simple (and free) theme. I'm wondering if it is a function of how the theme is set up.
Thanks Andrew for the instructions you have posted. It has been a big help.

Not sure if my tumblr has anything to do with it, but I started a little over a month ago, and my March sales were nearly equivalent to November.
And I disabled right clicking to hopefully deter some image copying.

In addition to the two directories I listed earlier in the thread, here are a few more tumblr directories that artists and photographers can submit to once they've established a decent portfolio on tumblr.

I'm new to this site saw tumblr and thought I'd speak up. http://workdayblues.tumblr.com/ Have been posting photos there and (same name) blogspot for some time but get very little interest. I watermark and lower size using http://www.watermark-image.com/.

@ J L Meadows ...The ones I put up are around 1280 x 853 pixels but you can go as low as you want. I suppose I could back off a bit on the resolution myself.

A friend sent me this - rings true!
"facebook makes me want to punch people I know in the face & tumblr makes me want to get coffee with people I don't know..."

You're welcome, Ricardo! I certainly get more traffic to my artist website from tumblr than I do from pinterest. I take into account that I'm much more active on tumblr...but still.
I have a nice clean single column theme, but just because I liked the look of it. I hadn't thought about the phone thing! Great thinking, Edward. I'm looking to change my theme, because the one I'm currently using doesn't display my bio. I'll make sure I stay with a single column.

Makes sense - Tumblr has been around longer and has more words for the search engines to find.

Thanks, Andrew.
I just did some research on Alexa and I got some interesting numbers. It seems that Tumblr is getting more traffic than Pinterest...
I'm surprised!
Ok I'm starting to figure this out more. Thanks Andrew for all the great links! I'm assuming that one really wants to use a nice clean, single column theme so that it will show well on phones.
Here is my start:

Here are a couple more ways for photographers to expose their work on Tumblr.

I'm sure there are similar collectives for painters, sculptors and other creative types too. If anyone knows of any please post here.

Yeah, I suppose it could be considered a bit of work. Making the low res jpeg with a watermark to use at tumblr, facebook, and g+ has become part of my work flow. I create the low res image at the same time I export my final edit high res jpeg for uploading to FAA.
I just happened to find this Tumblr for artists blog: http://bestpracticesforartists.tumblr.com/

i tried linking to one of my photos here but all you get is the url, no image. So you have to edit your photo size so it can't be copied, then link it to the url here.. sounds like a ton of work..
It does give an option to add a photo by url, but I've never had it work for me. I've never figured out why it doesn't work. Give it a try. I think you'll see the option if you click the red camera. Instead of uploading I think there's a box to put in a URL.
Oh also remember to tag your posts. Maybe you don't need as many tags as you would here, but it's good to do subject/color/location tags as well as some popular tags that apply specifically to tumblr. I've recently discovered. "Photographers on Tumblr" and "Artists on Tumblr"
I'd say search out work that's similar to yours and see what it's got for tags.
I followed all who've posted a link so far. Some of you said you were out there, but no link? Hmmmm....?
@Jim depending on what theme you are using you can post links on the sidebar of your blog. It really depends what options the theme you are using has. I add a click through link on all the photos I post. From the dashboard I click the red camera to do a photo post > Upload my photo > after the photo uploads if you mouse over the top right hand corner you'll see a little figure 8 looking icon. If you click that, you can add a click through link, and post the url for the photo on your artist site.
I think there are a few options for commenting. I think you can turn on comments for people who have followed you for a certain amount of time, somewhere in the options/behind the scenes or whatever they call it at tumblr. I also have Facebook comments enabled, so people can comment with their facebook identity and it will show up in their timeline. I don't remember exactly how/where I turned that on.

I've just started to figure out how to make it work. I have one post for now and I don't even know if anyone can comment, like, tumble, or whatever happens there. Do we have to click the enable comments button each time for a post?

http://jimsauch.tumblr.com/ Signed on, what's the most effective way to post to link to my artwork, anyone?
I upload low resolution watermarked images to my tumblr blog. You can then set a click-through link on the image that will point back to you image here at FAA.
If I upload an image to tumblr that isn't in my FAA portfolio, I set the click through link to the landing page of my artist website.
The drawback is that it's another social network/blog to maintain. I'm fairly active there and do have fun while I'm working/marketing.

How does it work, can you link your images from here? Or do you upload the original image? Is the interface easy?
