Well I be looks like the cost dropped back down to $15 instead of the $20.

And appears the deadline has changed as well.

So you are offered not only to give away your art free of charge, but also to pay $15 (first offer $20) to the person who will use it. If I am the only person in the world, who is ready to pay for my art, I'd rather pay $20 - to show more respect to my artwork. A lot of famous artists were poor, but no Dali was THAT crazy!

why not just call up the other thread, or is it because we called it a scam? there are no terms in that, and it's not clear what size image to send.

Oh I am sure it is legit Mike. I mean after all they want you to pay $75 to be in the online "magazine" and then on top of that they ask for donations. Mind you this doesn't cover the cost of the "contest" here it is $15 other post it is $20, on their site in two different locations it is listed with two different entry fees.

and all for the privilege of maybe being in a magazine that i never heard of before, and i wonder how many others read?

if i can't read that magazine when i'm on the toilet, its of no use to me... that's how i feel.

Any submission type things I find I'm posting here before joining. Definitely a big help pointing out the flaws that other people might notice. Which might save headache later. Thanks to you all!

Gee Mike thanks for that lovely visualization.

indeed, the best reading is done when sitting down. and if something shocks me, i'm also in the right place. like "that scared the xxx out of me" - i'm in the right place. fantastic.

anyway, i think it's in good form that if you post a contest, that the person knows their own rules and amounts and doesn't fluctuate on those numbers. on the site the due date is the 17th. on that first thread it's the 19th, on this thread it's the 15th.

seems a bit odd yes?

That and reading further into their site they have some really high entry prices.

well that's not much of a prize. let's see i if i read that right.

$50 fee to join the cover page contest, you can't get it back, it's juried
if you win, you have to buy the magazine at full list price and the shipping. so i guess there is a physical copy, but that's kind of a lot of money just to be on a cover where they should be paying you.

then you have to pay $300 and more to buy a spot on there some how? i'm not sure what that part means. so it's 50 for the jury, then 300 min for the entry, you still have to buy the magazine.

the photo has to be no less than 9" wide - even for a half page?

it seems they assume galleries will see this and you'll go in, but they make no guarantees. i didn't see anything on there about what they do to the images that aren't accepted. i know i would be pretty annoyed if i spent almost a $1000 for an unknown magazine just to not win at all. at that price i can buy myself ads in magazines and have stories about me in on any page.

i wonder how many would actually do this.

Now now Mike you know you would want to buy the magazine so you will have reading material for those special bathroom moments.

Mike Savad

usually i read the comics. it's just the best time to read them. if i could set up a water proof console in there so i can work on designs i would probably do that.

i still do wonder why the date and price keep changing.

it's funny how the price gets less and less as these contests go on. i guess next month will be around $10, then $5 and so on. that long thread has faces that i have not seen in a long time. sort of a blast from the past, and we are all still on the same page.

Mike, after Christmas time is tough, one needs to make some income. the first one even offered prize up to $4,000!

I'd like to see a comedian who payed...

Mike Savad

i wonder if she pays for any of her art in that magazine. and it says you can buy a copy, even though it's an online magazine, i wonder if everyone is a winner. and when you pay for the magazine as well, your in it, and so is he, and the other guy, etc - each copy being unique.

i'm guessing eventually she'll come in as she did with that other thread. if she wants to be taken seriously, she has to put a terms of service in there that explains all these questions we have, otherwise it's a scam. especially since you have pay for the prize as well.

"...when you pay for the magazine as well, your in it, and so is he, and the other guy, etc - each copy being unique..."

Mike,

I think you're onto something with that line of thought. Sort of a modern day form letter morphed into a magazine. Everyone's a winner!

Ah, Alfred, g, the good old bad old days, glad they're history now, am surprised you found those links....my, how quiet it is now, am surprised still that this newn'publication offer' is considered viable as a thread, with all the inconsistencies. What a hoot!
