1. Painterly original works of artist only (no photographs, digitals, or copies of others' work)
2. One image accepted per day. Image must be clear and suitable for print reproduction*
3. No celebrities, nudity, vulgarity, violence, excrement, type, copyright infringement
4. Admin (moi!) has final word on image acceptability, membership, features
5. New members MUST read this post in its entirety (torture), AND reply to THE RULES.
*images of paintings that are available ONLY for original sale, or images strictly for portfolio purposes (prints not available) do not need to be reproduction quality, and will be accepted..
More detailed information is below, but the above are our only hard RULES. The rest are policies, explanations, and varied ramblings I'd like to think are important, and interesting.

FAA FAQ and help
Image policy: while I try to be open minded and broad in my acceptance of paintings, any work submitted that DOES NOT fit any "painterly" criteria will be removed. The biggest indicator of a painting not being painterly is if it does not look painted, or looks like coloring within lines. A painterly painting is the opposite of a linear painting--it does not rely on line to define form. .
I only accept one submission a day. I won't make exceptions and I won't inform you when I have to remove an image.
Rejected Paintings: Images that don't meet group criteria will be removed without explanation. If you want to know why your painting wasn't accepted or removed, click on this link to see why. You can then make necessary corrections and resubmit. To remove rejected images, click edit on the image in question, scroll down to the groups section, uncheck the group where the image has been rejected, and save.
Feature policy: I will choose works I feel are the best examples of Painterly Fine Art for the day to feature on the front page. I will only feature images that have been photographed or scanned properly. I wish our group to be a reliable place where collectors can be assured of the best art.
Please help me choose features by posting your favorites of the day among the accepted paintings by doing as follows:
1. Click on the "images" tab to view new images
2. Choose your favorite
3. Post painting in appropriate discussion
4. Leave a comment on the artist's painting, vote, promote, etc.
Don't forget to post your featured paintings in the feature discussion thread. Older features will be rotated out and this is a great way to continue to feature them.
Promotion: Review the "how to get noticed on FAA discussions." Links are listed below:
1. High quality work that is unique, has clear intent/voice
2. High quality photos or scans of your work
3. Descriptive titles
4. Go slow, post one to three images per day
5. Keywords/tags are vital to being seen online
Mini galleries:
Artists may create a mini gallery in our discussion tab!
1. Start a new discussion
2. Include your name and "gallery" in the title
3. Introduce yourself and works in the message and "submit"
4. Each day "reply" to your gallery with 1, 2, or 3 images. You can also edit your posts in order to group images together for a tidier look!
Mini gallery guidelines:
1. No more than 3 images per day (the slow trickle keeps the group active and varied)
2. Try to visit one other thread (promote on any/all of the images you like), each time you post on your own thread. *special privileges apply to uber good artists who ask very sweetly and give me loads of compliments ;)
Genuine You can count on me to be genuine in my remarks. I feel everyone should continue their art journey wherever they are. But I don't feel all works are suitable for a professional venue such as FAA. The designer of this wonderful program set checks and balances in place to ensure the best works are placed highest in the search results. Voting, favoriting, traffic, comments, being featured, all take a part of that. So! I will vote, favorite and promote the works I believe show high expertise, cognition, and expression. I will NOT continue in the FAA tradition of TELLING you in the comments if I promoted your work. I feel comments should be meaningful and genuine (though always positive) and not tallies of who will feel obligated to reciprocate votes. Feel free to carry on whichever way works best for you. Please trust that I am voting, promoting my favorite works of yours. Regardless of your paintings, it is YOU, the artists, that I believe in and want to support.
I'll be updating this page as needed so check in on occasion to make sure you haven't missed anything important or particularly witty.

Talya, great, to the point, encouraging and challenging directive for the group. Much appreciated. Chana

For those who have replied, I congratulate you for being law abiding groupies.
Sadly there are a few folks who need a bit more threatening (ahem, I mean encouraging) approach, hence I am changing the title to be more persuasive. I do so hate being a meanie, but really mustn't have anarchy.
Law abiding groupies, may carry on with my blessings. :)

I think your rules are very fair. The one thing, though, is that I've been posting a WIP to my gallery, which has not be accepted into the group (because it is not done yet). I kind of consider my gallery "my corner" of the group, and hope to continue to post my WIP there. I don't want to create a new thread for it if I do not have to. I will, of course, if you want me to, though. I just hope to keep all my stuff in one place. Let me know either way.

Thanks, for replying, David! You are welcome to keep your WIP's in place, since you asked so nicely, AND I know it will be accepted into the group when you are finished. There are others that posted images before they were accepted that are catching up as well. I am happy to add you to the law-abiding groupies. I believe we would all appreciate reading more regarding your process if you are willing to share (crossing my fingers).

Talya, thank you! By the way, if you are interested in my process, I keep detailed notes and photographs of all my WIPs on my blog:

Thank you Talya for your 'words of wisdom'. I like your style!!! I think you are a great asset to FAA and I am really enjoying the very good feeling I am getting about this group.
I'm just wondering whether it would be neater and tidier, and easier on the eye, in the mini gallery to keep adding work in the same area, by using 'edit post', rather than adding more after a long stream of comments. For instance I would keep one area solely for landscapes, and another areas for portraits etc. Would be pleased to hear what others think of this idea.

I'm sure you know this, but I will remind the group that it is always a great idea to include all your links to blogs websites, social networks, wherever you can. The webcrawlers eat that stuff up, and so do collectors. So add all that to your little personal galleries as well where you introduce yourselves...yes, yes, pot. Kettle. Black. I'm a total hypocrite. But it is still a good idea. :)
I also got a note from Michael Swanson, so he's on the good list now too. Yaaaaay! Now, go hound the rest of the members so no one thinks I'm a meanie!

I understand and will help where I can.
Cheers for your great work for all of us, Michael

OOOOOoh! Good idea Lynda! 'course I'm not going to police that part, but I agree it would be much more tidy! I will certainly do that myself! I'll also get rid of all my threatening tyrant posts once everyone (or most) are on the good list :)

Oh, also keep in mind that every time someone comments or you "reply" on your mini-gallery it will be "bumped" back to the top of the discussions. so there is that added advantage of the "reply" method.

Talya,
I'm not very savy with the computer. The day I joined the group I submitted a few images of my paintings, you have selected one of them (thank you)
and put it in the group images. I then realized that I should have sent one only (am I correct)? However I cannot figure out how to submit others
to keep up with my one a day. Another thing I realized is that the others I sent are in the rejections area. Were they rejected for the quality of work or is it that I sent too many at one time. Please advise.
Thanks Lucia

Twyla, you are doing wonderful things with this group! I shall try my best to follow your reasonable and simple guidelines - it all sounds good to me! Thanks!!
hi Lucia!
No problem, I totally understand the learning curve with the computer.
Yes, one painting a day.
Your paintings are beautiful! Most are inadequately photographed/scanned, however they were rejected because the one-a-day rule.
to submit, click on the my images tab within the group
look on the left hand side and there will be buttons with options on them as follows:
Active
pending
Rejected
Non-group
click on the rejected button, select the images and click remove
Click the non-group images, select the image you wish to submit, and click add to group
While I will accept paintings that are not high resolution, I won't feature blurry, or inadequately photographed/scanned paintings. To remedy this, I suggest you browse this http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=432109
read Catherine's excellent tutorial on scanning of this thread http://fineartamerica.com/groups/painterly-fine-art--1-per-day.html?showmessage=true&messageid=1040962

Hi Talya,
thanks for your effort to make this group something higher than the usual. I totally agree with your opinion about the blurry, or inadequately photographed/scanned paintings. If you put a lot of skills in creating an artwork, you could spend some time and photograph it properly for the purpose of FAA.
I have one question, I saw that some members are grouping their images in discussion mini-galleries 2 or even 3 in a row and I don't know how this is done? Can you help - this would carry both Lynda's idea of saving place and your to bump galleries on top with replies. We will save space and still get a lot of attention when post new paintings in a reply.
Thanks once again for everything you're doing, I know it's a time consuming job and I'm appreciating this!

Good thing you commented, Kiril, because I want to keep featuring your work!
Yes, on the post you want to add images to, on the blue bar on top, there will be a tiny link saying "edit this post" click on it, then cut and paste more images in there. If you want to out them in a row, make there there is no "return" or "enter" between the two different image codes, maybe even no space bar "space". But please be sure that they are images I've already accepted, or everyone will accuse me of playing favorites. :)
Thanks Talya, it was so simple but actually done the job perfectly! I was thinking it has to be some string of html code and it's just "don't hit enter between the paintings". Sorry, if I broke the rules with posting paintings in the mini-gallery! I'll check and remove if I had to. Thanks once again!
No worries, Kiril, just catch up by adding the images in here one at a time, it's what most of the artists are doing. And thank you for favoriting my Fall painting. I am easily flattered! :)

Ok, sorry everyone for featuring without comments today. I'll attempt catching up tomorrow but no promises, since I seem to have my hands full ensuring compliance from members... Again thank so much for everyone who has read and commented here. I know Im running things a little differently but I have high hopes for all of us! :)

Read it and understand it. Appreciate all the work that went into it and all the work it must take to keep this group going. Will do my best to remember all the rules if you'll have me- I'm not sure if my colored pencil paintings and graphite drawings are acceptable? I like to think my work is painterly. I spend many hours creating each piece and it's all my work created with my hands using traditional mediums but not necessarily paint on canvas.

You are a funny girl Tayla Johnson!!!! OK, read the rules because I honestly don't like torture or anything medieval like that but do enjoy a group for serious painters who are trying to make a living out of something they love and cannot live without!!!!!! Thank you for the info and especially thanks your for your very VIP valuable time!!! Misha

Have read the rules many times since joining the group in 2013. I hate the fact that many art shows are becoming craft shows this year other than showing in galleries I only participated in one show that was only for original works of art. Thanks for keeping the group real.

Thanks, Phyllis, I hope my works are appropriate, because the standard here is very high, admirable, and I'd be honoured to join.

Phyllis, I read the rules that were very clear to understand. I will do my best to remember them all. I have mainly worked in watercolor and soft pastel for the past few years, but am getting back into oils again. I was wondering if pastels can be included in this group as they are not paint. Thank you for your time and support. :-)

Hi There!
I'm new to the groups and discussions in FAA. Can someone explain how to post in the mini gallery.
Thanks!
