If you indulge in the holiday celebration...... Why not give her what she really wants.
There are the threads on Romance & Sentimental - & I always hear women saying what matters to them "are the little things...."
& aren't you in the perfect place ?
Listen to her stories.... her childhood (or her children's ) special memories.....
If you can't buy her "that cabin in the woods" or the week in Hawaii - You can get it here on FAA for the very low price of a print !
Perhaps the horse of her dreams, or the rare Lilly that she could never grow - the options are endless.
Feel free to post a picture of what you think a woman would want.

Janine, men are stupid... at least some of them... at least me... Imagine, beiing an old man as I am, I still have no idea what a woman may REALLY want! I only know that if I give my wife one of my pictures instead of a fur coat, which she had asked, she will surely kill me...
Lol. if that's what she reallyyy wants Yuri - then I say do the best you can ( but I love the idea of your photo better.) .
This is for the "no clue" kinda guys that are just gonna wander into that mall jewelry store & buy what the commercials have told them to. & she will thank profusely of course - because it beats getting a Dustbuster, again.
Janine, I laughed out loud at your "dustbuster" comment. I've been married 41 1/2 years. Some of the gifts I have received from my husband have been a hockey game, cookie sheets, and a vegetable steamer (I HATE veggies) and one speaker to HIS stereo system. He gave the other one to himself. Although, that isn't nearly as bad as a toilet seat which one of my co-workers received one year.
Now, if he ever came home with a dozen of roses, I would wonder what he did wrong. I also recall one co-worker getting roses every Valentine's Day at work. We would all ooo and aaah but later found out he was cheating on her.

Ok, ROAR ! I'm laughing so hard 've got tears in my eyes........ A toilet seat !!!!
that's why I posted this, just trying to save some well meaning (but misguided) dude a severe lashing.
& of course, the (well deserving) women a little something to make her smile.
Oiy vey - I'm still laughing.
I am one of the fortunate ones, my husband remembers my wish list of painting supplies.
& "the Brooklyn lantern" As seen on TV , yeah, I wanted that.
Hockey stick, stereo speaker.... still shaking my head.

Valentines day is a two way street. I don't want hearts and flowers - I'd like a new lens for my camera.
Oh yeah , Roy - a new lens - is hot.
Have you left pictures on the fridge ?
Hubby & I put things in the save on e-bay for holidays, this way we get excactly what we want. So Dorky , but it works.

If I did any of these things for my girlfriend she'd smack me. Though during the summer picking her a rose randomly makes her very happy, just because.
the "just because" is so much more meaningful. Picking wildflowers from the side of the road on your way over works pretty well too.

Janine, this is a great thread! During our first years together, it would bother me. That's an eternity ago. Reflecting back, I would marry him all over again. He's a good friend, not a control freak, and makes me laugh.
My son is much better at picking out gifts than his Dad. :)

Thnx Janice.
& that's what love should be - based on friendship. I can feel a lot more romantic when I know my best buddy has got my back - & is by my side.
My eyebrow raises over those people who neeeed the public display of commercial romance ( to either give or receive) - because that is just self serving & not about the other person at all.
Hence , my quite often disdain for all things sacharin.

I read aloud in character to my girlfriend every night in bed...we just finished Pride a prejudice by Jane austin and are now onto Burr by gore vidal..she is a history buff.. we often fall asleep while I read ...

Never did like the Daisy Dukes but in my perfect world, tight jeans and cowboy boots would work just fine....
I really like that Robert, in today's culture people bring have their phones in bed. Aaarggh !
& JC , you can never be "under dressed " in a pair of Levis & cowboy boots.
LOL Robert, may be now she thinks you are much older, that's why she loves history. She just wants yo know what you did at nights when you was yoinger....
150 years old sounds like a great compliment.
Unfortunately, my wife is about as romantic as a rock and I have all but given up on romance.
I love romance but sometimes the practical works better. I live in a 498 sq ft. cabin in the middle of nowhere. I have been washing clothes in the sink and hanging them to dry. Sometimes the cabin get a little too crowded trying to hang all the clothes inside when it's -40 outside. For Christmas my husband gave me a washer and dryer and that is the best Christmas present I have ever gotten! :)
I should add that he usually gives me his art for gifts which I do love.

Now imagine. My wife's name is Tatiana. Her name day (saint Tatiana+students day) is 25 of January. From the time when I met her and she was a student, she expects gifts from me in that day. Her birthday is 12 0f February. She expects gifts in that day too. Traditionaly in Russia the 8th of March is Women Day and all them expect gifts, my wife including. I tried not to disclose to her all that traditions about the Valentine Day, which is not so much traditional in Russia. She found out somewhere... Now every Valentine day she expects additional gifts... As she considers me as her hubby and her friend at once, she expects... twice as much. Do you see why am I so poor?
That's why in Russia we prefer to laugh - we are tired to cry.
... and ... about a solid age:
A man woke up in the morning and found an unknown woman in his bed. He was so confused by her appearance that could ask only "how old are you?" The woman answered: "a woman is always as young, as she looks...
NO WAY!!!! - he shouted, - a human creature can not live THAT long!!!!!
Sorry if.. I am too rough... may be I am too sleepy now... I'd better go to bed... avoiding all them troubles... lookimg for a book then...

Melanie - being warm, cozy & dry - can make one feel much more romantic - that WAS thoughtful.
Thnx for the pictures Kathy !
Yury - that's the price you must pay for being married to a "Tatiana" (very exotic ).
Robert - but you look Gooood for 150.
JC - sorry about the rock.

We work together, giving each other art is out of question, so we just both hope that our gift would be selling some prints instead, whatever the buyers might fancy. We don't have any specialized art for the day but, if pressed, I could recommend these :) ... Raisa

In responding to the thread title, why is it always "note to men?" Why not "attention women" once in a while?
We men are sweethearts, why don't YOU romance US once in a while?
And while we're on the subject, why should WE put the toilet seat back down. How about YOU putting it back up when YOU'RE done! That way, when we stumble in there in the middle of the night we won't dribble on it!
Ain't it funny how women have "liberated" themselves...unless, of course, when it's something convenient to them. LOL
Sheesh! ;-)
Because I'm a woman ? So that is my point of view.
& I was just trying to help you guys score brownie points ? Nuthin' in it for me - not like I am going to get all the gifts.
I should have titled this thread "what women really want..." but it was too late to change it after I actually thought.(as usual).
I can't argue the "Liberated", because that's just not my thing. I believe it is a sexist world, the differances are obvious - so respect & celebrate them.
Janine,
If you saw the LOL and the ;-) it should have been clear it was tongue-in-cheek fun.
Our anniversary is on valentine's day. I would joke that it saves me a dinner, but the reality is that there is no worse night of the year to try to get a table at any restaurant.
Dan, I'm sorry - I saw the smiley & I knew you were chiding. It was too late for me to be on, & I was fresh out of Lols for the evening. I just wanted to point out - I wasn't picking on males - just trying to give insight on what she might want.
& you're right - Men do deserve some romantic appreciation too - because I do hear that complaint. I think women forget to compliment men. Maybe women think that " fighting lions & tigers & bears" all day, just comes natural to you all. It's a hard job to be a man - but what else are ya gonna do ?
I don't care for all that Valentine's stuff - except for those fun little packs of elementary school cards - & the confection hearts - Now that's darn cute.
If you love & are loved, every day is Valentine's day. Well, not all of them - but most : )
Apologies again.
Janine,
I'm not a valentine's day person myself. And in all seriousness, I guess it's actually a negative the our anniversary is on the same day.
An anniversary dinner is different and nice. Any additional year two people can maintain their marriage is worth noticing. But because it falls on valentine's day, it's a pain to go out. Guess I should have thought about this ahead of time.
But her birthday is on the 19th, so lucky me - I can REALLY cheap out and label the dinner as valentine's day, anniversary, and birthday. Kinda like all those poor people who happened to be born on Christmas day. LOL. You know darned good and well they don't get double the presents!
I'd say - you have a lot to celebrate ! What a great month, & Happy anniversary to you both.
Going out to eat is stressful around any major holiday. I think any day is a good day to eat food, so cozy in & order take out .
My husband's shift is "on the wheel" , I've gotten used to picking alternate days to celebrate holidays. At first it was disappointing, but I've learned it can just extend a special day & gives you more opportunity to share with loved ones.
As we learn as we get older ( I mean wiser) having a reason to celebrate is reason enough to celebrate. Do it any day that you can - there is no time for dissapointments.
Enjoy, & Happy birthday to Mrs. Dan..

Yes Andrew - Perfect !
The sentiment of " how it all began...."
memories of the early days = priceless.
Now that is something everyone should have hanging in their house.
Dan, I can empathize with your situation. I was wed on July 3. Either we were celebrating my brother's twin's birthdays, born the year before we married, or now....preparing for our annual Fourth of July gathering at our house. Most always, I'm cooking for those staying over. Our original idea was to get married on New Year's Eve. When you are young, you just never think things through.

Victoria - I think we would all like to LOOK like that for Valentine's day. & I don't think the guys would mind.
Jean - YUMMY ! Perfect, fat free & less filling.

I always ask for the same thing for Valentines Day, my hubby to do all the taxes and accounting, it is about a 40 hour job. It is the most romantic present ever! Although I did get a toilet seat cover for my birthday once, but then again, one Christmas he gave me a glamorous diamond necklace. This year we are going out for pizza, and actually, I really need a new toilet seat for the other bathroom, :)
That is a romantic gesture Dazzle - when one partner takes the burden of a dreaded chore off the other's back.
I think that sometimes we as women forget to see that when a man is doing something we hate to do (removing snow, taking out garbage, checking oil/tire pressure.....) that IS his thoughtful caring gesture - not just "a man's job".
& now, I am seeing a toilet seat theme here..... hmmm......
Is that some sort of honor.... giving up Heir to the throne ?
Very nice Andrew, Mermaids are romantic.
& Robert, Lol. Do you know I hated the message of that movie ? Good movie, but to me it said; " Single women (burdened) with a child have a handicap ( the asthma) & must accept that the only potential for dates is a mentally handicapped Man. & they should be grateful. " that's what I got out of it. " It's good for yooou " .
But, maybe I read too much into things. ?
My point was one of the best things a person can do for another is improve themselves .. Not selfishness like taking care of your needs but to truly heal and be a better person....I get your point about the overall message of the movie though..

I kind of like the valentine roses before valentines day. I am looking at the right now sitting on my desk!

That is sweet Sydne, when they show up as a surprise ahead of time. A nice little message that says " I just couldn't wait to tell you..."
Ahhh.... breathe them in deeply for me - & enjoy !

He's actually sorta cute, JC....all fuzzy and soft and cuddly. The key to a woman's heart eerrrr, the handcuffs, made me laugh.
