Has Anyone Here Used Kickstarter To Fund A Project?

Another successful one that I followed from somewhere in its beginnings was Hybrid Vigor, a film shot in Latvia

One of the features I noticed about this one was the huge number of twitter followers they had, now way over 200,000. Again, the founder appeared to have a strong basis of credibility in film to work from.

I agree with you Chuck about squeezing acquaintances for support and the amount of work involved, the Facebook likes, etc. My own approach is at present I have only a vague idea that I might possibly have a project worth pitching somewhere along the way - so am hoping to have at least a minimal critical mass of a (social media) network built up so that I could engage it when the time is ripe.

It may well not be for a kickstarter project - could be any other type of project, exhibition, etc...

I agree, Heather. My daughter and her friend want me to do a video to fund a project. I'd rather people send me money and I send them artwork.

I find it hard enough just getting "Likes" on my Facebook page. How hard is that to do???

I did one a little while back to try and raise funds to publish my calendar, but only got part of the funding so it didn't happen.
You have to have a way to market the hell out of it so you can reach your goal, or have it be interesting enough to go viral.

Interesting, Tatiana, I'll have to do a bit of research. Never heard of indiegogo, but then I never heard of Kickstarter until this week.

Reading through the Kickstarter goals, I would think it would be easier to just go get a job than to spend all that time promoting and trying to squeeze money out of people you know.

Including one I posted a few months ago. You can look at it - it was about a successful project that I just happened to come across. It was somewhat interesting - not particularly mind-blowing - but the guy really seemed to have his ducks in a row.

Funny thing, the thread had over 1500 views and only one reply not from myself. I notice there is a near fanatical lack of response on all the "kickstarter" threads LOL no clue why(??)

Anyway, good luck to you daughter. BTW there are a lot of other "crowdsourcing" sites. From what I have seen, one of the better ones is indiegogo.

My daughter is trying it, Lynn, so I'll keep this link up-to-date. Some people get even more money than they request--even double and more.

I've heard of it and it sounds interesting but I can't say first hand how effective it is. If you try it please let us know how it works out for you.

I looked at that a few months back. Would like to give it a try sometime as I have a children's book that I illustrated and would like to get published, Anyone know of other resources for that?
