A Day At The Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge

I often find it difficult to get motivated this time of year. Frigid weather and I do not get along well. But, after seeing a golden eagle last week, I found myself itching to shoot some more raptors. So, I went out to the Klamath Basin refuge. I saw hundreds of hawks, a couple of coyotes, a great egret and a couple dozen bald eagles. I can't wait to go through all my shots, but this one just had to be first. January isn't so bad after all. What gets you motivated this time of year?

Hawks are pretty cool, too.

Only Alaska has more bald eagles. And even though wildlife shots are not my best sellers, nothing beats the rush of photographing eagles.

Just an interesting side note: The Klamath Basin and Tule Lake refuges have the largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states at this time of year. Sometimes as many as 400 of em.
