Idols

Reading and participating in another thread about a fallen idol, I wondered who your idols were/are in life? Did you immortalize that person(s) in your art?

Janice, I understand you only too well and envy you a bit. I am 62 and I still have only one grandson. I am waiting for a granddaughter this spring though... What other idols could we adore more?

I'd have to say Jimi Hendrix. He died a year before I was born, but as soon as I heard his music, it spoke to me on a level that nothing else ever had. It still does, too. I'd say that I've idolized him to some extent.

Yury, he is one precious little fellow. I love your photography. I know what you mean about grandkids. I waited 60 years to become a grandmother. Now I have three little granddaughters in the span of three years. Love them! Next week, two are staying with me. I will be taking lots of photographs, become exhausted and not spend much time here. They are well worth it.

I've liked and loved a lot of persons in my life, but I always tried to see and understand them as they were, not to idolise them. Alive they were much better then any idols. Thus I have not become kind of a pagan fanatic.Immortalise them in my art? I do not think that my art can become immortal, thus I never had such opportunity.I made some pictures of persons whom I love. Currently my grandson is starring in my art most often.

Catherine, a wonderful painting and a heartfelt tribute to your brother, Teddy.

Thank you for your story about Bobby Orr. My son has given me the heads up on Bobby Orr's latest venture. He is writing a book about his life and one I will purchase.

@ Janice... Bobby Orr was and is a down-to-earth wonderful and often shy person. In quiet, unassuming ways, he has done a lot of good in his life. Once, when I was about 22 or so, a friend and I ran into him and Darryl Sittler at the Toronto airport... and they kindly ..lol..bought us a drink while we were all waiting for flights to somewhere.
My hero was my brother, Teddy... who died when he was only 43. After becoming disabled, due to a car accident... and in constant horrific pain, he spent his time looking after others including being a single dad to his 4 wonderful girls and doing volunteer work whenever and wherever he could.

Jim, a nice memory or your father and mementos from your family. Mo...McCartney was my fav Beatle.

As a teenager, I idolized Bobby Orr who played for the Boston Bruins. Now that I'm older, I laugh. This is one of those actions as a teen that can be embarrassing. I painted his picture, wrote a poem, and mailed it to him. In return, I received an autographed photo.

i don't have any real idols, though i still like Vlad the Impalor. not just because of his mustache. but to his stick to it attitude, so to speak. the guy even skewered spiders in jail.

My husband grew up idolizing Willie Mays. Today, he is still his idol.
