Selling Your Work

Would appreciate thoughts on how long to leave a picture on my profile before removing it. I am not a premium member so I can only have a certain number of photographs. Suggestions please. I don't see a lot of action on my work, maybe not good enough.

you don't remove it. you can leave as many as you want, but you can only price 25 at a time. you may never get a sale, or you might get one now. seeing as you have really no keywords, no one will find you. as you shoot landscape, you have a huge competition against you.

Thanks Mike, I didn't know that I could leave them on and not have a price. Must be doing something wrong here because I always type in key works when I upload a photograph.

there are words, but you don't have many. though it might have something to do with none of them being for sale.

I need to take a look at this because I thought all the photo's I have uploaded have been for sale.

if you don't have prices in the boxes under the sizes and the cards, it won't be for sale. you can do a bulk change, but i don't know which 25 it will choose.

Welcome !
Your work is great. Action is up to you, You must market yourself - because everyone is an Artist/sculptor/photographer here. Tags & keywords for the Google search engine.

Hi Dewey, here is my opinion for what it is worth. Change the positions of your art ( under each image) and make sure that
images 1 through 25 are the ones you have for sale. You have some really nice works, make your 25 the very best that
you have to offer. When it gets too hard to choose go premium, its only $30 :-)
Welcome to faa.

edit- that would be positions 0 through 24.

Thanks Janie and Pamela, I will work more on tags for google and will reposition my photo's. Looked at both of your sites beautiful work.

Very generous of you to say Dewey, thank you.

Welcome to FAA Dewey.

Whether the 30 bucks is worth it to any one individual is a personal choice but I will say if you have considerably more than 24 marketable images it is a cheap way to offer them for sale. I wouldn't have had a clue when I first came on here which images I would have chosen if I was limited to that number. In all, I have sold some 160 different images and at least half the ones that have sold multiple times would not have made the cut if I hadn't become a paid member.

Your images are absolutely gorgeous!
Like some have suggested, it may be worth for you to invest $30 if you have many photos of such quality. I am sure with more keywords and marketing, your photos will sell.

Thank You JC for your advise, I guess I will pay the $30.00 and see what happens.

Yew, thank you for the generous comment, I will get to work on adding more key words to my work.

the work is good, but why have you uploaded such small versions of the original files? Do you have the original files?

For example this one below, seems like it was saved for web display, not for printing?

Photography Prints

EDIT - Are you using a mixture of film and digital cameras, for your work?

Dewey Farmer

Tiny by Nature, I guess I have a lot to learn about FAA. Yes I have the original files for all my photographs. What size do you suggest that I upload. All my photographs are digital. Thank you for your post. I'm learning quite a bit.

@Dewey,

Upload the largest you can. (without up-sizing)

The uploaded resolution of the above image is 1200x900.

If FAA printed that at the optimal dpi (300), you would end up with a maximum print size of 4inches x 3inches

If you want to sell big prints, you need to upload the all the original resolution from your camera.

Yew Kwang Lim

Just upload the largest image right out of the camera.
I only reduce the image size if it exceed 25MB limit.

Just want to thank everyone for there posts. I have rearranged my photo's so all 20 of them now have prices. I will probably pay the $30.00 to upgrade to premium membership. Thanks so much. Will work on tags for them next.

Your photography is beautiful! More people need to see it. I loved one of them and voted it as a favorite and shared it on Facebook. I hope more people will look at your work.

Hi Dewey,

There is one untitled image.
The next thing you can do is to create gallery and categorize them accordingly, it looks better once you have large amount of images.
Try submitting images to group to increase its exposure.
Have fun!

Hey thanks Yew, great suggestion, I will work on that as well.I have another question maybe you could lead me in the right direction. I would like to sponsor some photo's on FAA. Could you explain to me how to link FAA website to another URL. That is one of the requirements on FAA if you are a sponsor.

Yew Kwang Lim

Hi Dewey,

You can click on the link below, it will show you the recommend sponsor page...
http://fineartamerica.com/controlpanel/index.html?tab=searchenginesponsorship

Click on the artwork page that you want to sponsor, scroll down to the third row of that page and click on "sponsor this page".

The pop up window will show you the three steps to submit the form.

In step 1, you copy the code (in yellow box) and paste onto your website, for eg, your blog...

In step 2, type in the url of the page (eg, your blog post url) where you have just paste the link.

Press Submit, that's it!

Hope that answer your question :)
