Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Bill Kenton Alexander Photographer and musician got his early traveling up and down the West Coast, exploring and gaining a wealth of experiences. When he wasn’t playing music, I would gain admittance to concerts as a freelance photographer for Rolling Stone magazine and local periodicals.
I continue to travel and explore towns and cities of all sizes, documenting ordinary people in a variety of environments, with a particular focus on those meek living in the forgotten and otherwise invisible margins of society.
Trained in figure drawing and oil painting I acquired my first film camera in college. I shoot in my urban wanderings. I prefer the candid, unexpected portrait, city, street and landscape capturing the moment between composure and anticipation. Working primarily in film and digital, beginning with the classic street photography and applying contemporary methods—enhancing or removing color, adding dimension and texture—to better reveal the unique qualities of each particular subject.
