Massachusetts Scenic Images
Photographs from across Massachusetts. Most may be from the North Shore where I live but I'm constantly adding more locations to this gallery. I travel all over New England for my blogs about New England from the coastal scenic opportunities that abound in places like Gloucester and Rockport to Lexington and Concord. Massachusetts Lighthouses are one of my favorite subjects There are 50 lighthouses studding the Bay State�s coast and are a testimony to the importance of seafaring, then and now. A busy fishing port, Gloucester is guarded by five lighthouses, including Eastern Point Light with its unusual breakwater, Ten pound light, small but very needed inside the harbor, Thacher Island twin lighthouses which are the last remaining twin lights on the east coast, Annisquam lighthouse at the mouth of the Annisquam river which separates Cape Ann from New England as Cape Ann is an Island of its own, and Straitsmouth lighthouse at the mouth of Rockport harbor. Gloucester is also the home of the lighthouse station where artist Winslow Homer lived and painted some of his finest works over a century ago. Massachusetts also has some of America�s finest beaches to go with it�s lighthouses, Cape Cod and the Cape Cod National Seashore have some of the country�s most historic lighthouses. Highland Light (also known as Cape Cod Light) is near Truro, Nauset Light is near Eastham; and Race Point Light is out near the tip of Cape Cod. Nearer to me in Salem Massachusetts is Fort Pickering lighthouse, Derby light, baker Island lighthouse and Marblehead light, to name a few. Nantucket has Brandt lighthouse which is seen during the ferry ride in and is a nice stroll through the town to the point and don�t forget to check the break water on the way home from Nantucket because harbor seals and sea lions line the break water in the afternoons, sunning themselves. Boston Harbor has Graves light, and others that are very historic and dramatic and are much harder to get to.
