Emerging artist - Ushonah lives in Western Australia and works from home. Up until now, Ushonah has been selling her prayer flags and art privately through her social networking sites and word of mouth. She paints intuitively, allowing images to emerge after applying layers of paint and making marks on the canvas with a variety of natural and man made objects. In this way depth, light and a rich mosaic of colour are created and developed in the direction her heart takes her in. Available for sale on this page are selected acrylic paintings and hand painted prayer flags - (acrylic on calico cloth). The Prayer flags have 12 flags in a set and are sewn to a painted twine spanning approx 2.5 metres. The prayers come as part of the creative process while painting and are then hand written onto the finished set. Ushonah's love of bright colours and often surreal images adds to the joyous and celebratory flavour of her art. Shona started drawing and painting mandala's in the 90's, then moved on to mosaics, pop-up art and finally fell in love with painting - and the love affair continues to blossom. When you view a close up of the canvas it is easy to see the texture and layering of colour behind the images.
Her teachers and main influences have been modern artists Dawn Meader , Flora Bowley, Carol Barton, Candace Bahouth, Kaffe Fassett, Susan Finscher and Judith Cornell , although inspiration comes through nature and everyday experiences. Shona has also been fortunate to have been given moments of Grace and windows of Awareness that shine through in her paintings and the prayers for the flags.
