I look at fungi mainly with a scientific eye. I'm interested in the carbon cycle and the role of fungi and other organisms(e.g. termites) in breaking down wood. But fungi have captured my sense of wonder and beauty.
To get good pictures one has to spend a lot of time in the field foraging. You can only percieve them sharply if you take an interest in their diversity and learn their names and ecology. This takes years, if not decades. Over time, one begins to take some pictures that are really satisfying and may even merit artistic appreciation.
From about April through the end of November I usually spend two or three hours a day foraging in quest of fungal wonders. At this point, sharpness, composition and lighting are my main photographic concerns. I find that a little cropping is usually beneficial as well as adjustment of the exposure curves.
I hope you enjoy my images and add any of your own to the group I created called MycoArt. I would appreciate your comments.
