As a child in the early 50's ,I always loved to paint. It wasn't until the late 90's that I decided to dive into the world of art.My major influences are Van Gogh and a very eccentric and talented artist by the name of Charlie Ward.Mr.Ward and I became good buddies and on weekends I would observe him painting in Jackson Square. He gave me informal lessons over a cold beer and a pool table at the legendary Stage Door in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans.Eventually my professional nuclear medicine work would take me to the U.S. Virgin Islands.I spent 7 years there,3 on St. Croix and 4 on St. Thomas.
The wonderful colors of the CARIBBEAN ,with the ocean, mountains, and tropical plants escalated my passion to paint prolifically the entire time I lived there.I met so many wonderful native West Indians who took me in as famiy and let me show my artwork at restaurants, bars and the hospitals.Because of Hurricane Katrina,I gave up my magical life in paradise to come back to my native city of NEW ORLEANS to help with the rebuiding and healing of my people.
Music has always been the tonic to inspire me to paint.I listen to music from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed.At times I even sleep to soft classical sounds. My influences are many and varied.Music is like the air I breathe, cannot live without it.I have never created a painting without the vibrational sounds from a sweet melody.
