Born in 1960 in Indianapolis Tanya underwent a long, charmed childhood and youth, much of it spent roaming old fields and woods in Indiana as well as the Canadian north shore of Lake Superior. With a B.A. Honors degree in English from the University of Western Ontario, Tanya was trained as a writer by her father, Werner Beyer, a scholar in English and world literature who taught creative writing at Butler University in Indianapolis.
