Susan Goh was born and raised in Singapore and currently resides in Arizona with her husband Bill and four wonderful dogs. Susan's Chinese name is 吴 思 宇 (Goh/Wu Si Yi) literately means thinking of the universe or cosmos thinker which is what she is like when she is painting in her home studio.
Goh says that painting is all about artful self-expression. It allows the artist and those who enjoy her art to venture and fully immersed in the moment. For most of her life, she was caught up in the fast paced City-State lifestyle of her home of Singapore and then later traveling the world with her husband for his work – Now her paintings reflect a culmination of all these experiences. Goh's art is a true reflection of her unique personality. She celebrates life with color and expression. Inspired by her ideas and things around her she transfers them to the canvas.
While Goh paint her life, her passion and her story she hopes that the viewer will be able to add their own story and interpretation to it.
Mixed media allows the artist to incorporate textures and depth producing energetic result which reflect her passion. She puts her creativity and thoughts onto the substrate translating it into something concrete and functional. Emotions translate into colors, colors into texture, texture into form and form into depth. The steadfast rhythm of energy and passion surround her as she paints - her playground registering yesterday, creating today and dreaming about tomorrow.
Frequently Goh was asked about the letters and numbers that were reflected in most of her painting. In 2011. Out of no where, the artist starts developing RA condition which affected her eyes. As her sighting got worst, her visits to numerous doctors increased. Every visit involve reading the 'chart', scans and the many procedures that is increasingly overwhelming and disheartening. Loaded with a condition that has uncertainty, the future of painting seem 'dim'. Despite the dimness, the artist continues to paint and explore the different styles and process. Without realizing it, numbers and letters are incorporated. Then there was the drips caused by the stink of the various eye drops she has to administer to reduce inflammation. The floaters increased so did the mark making. After 3 eye surgeries at the end of 2013, it seem that there is light at the end of the tunnel. This light was short lived. Goh has a 20/100 vision for most part of 2014. Driving was reduced to within 10 miles radius of her home and in daylight. In 2015, pneumonia caused her to postpone the eye surgeries 3 times. The surgeries was a success, Goh's vision continues to improves and there was a glowing light at the end of the tunnel again.
When asked about her goal, Goh says: 'My vision is to share the beauty of art with the world. I believe that art brings people together regardless of race, language or religion - Art is a universal language spoken from the heart with the stroke of a brush.'
Goh welcomes you to her playground and she is happy to share this joy and energy with you from her heart to yours. “If you dream and believe you can......... you will.”
