Sue Barrasi

Sue Barrasi is a graduate of New York’s School of Visual Arts. Upon graduating she dove into the world of Illustration where she was quickly commissioned by McCalls Magazine, Chelsea House Publications, Simplicity Patterns and the American Kennel Club. Between freelancing she traveled throughout Europe visiting museums and discovering many new artists. She continued her artistic education at the Art Students League where she was awarded a merit scholarship. While studying with David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw, Susan started exhibiting her works at various Manhattan galleries and Clubs winning numerous awards and blue ribbons. Barrasi has been commissioned by the Island Nation of Grenada to portray a series of postage stamps. Her portrait of Georgia O’Keefe is on permanent display at Ghost Ranch in Abiqui, New Mexico. Susan’s work has hung in museums and galleries throughout the United States. Her current work has been “Rockland Renaissance” painting the beautiful vistas and historical landmarks throughout the County and displaying them with similar scenes painted by the Hudson River School artists. This project is made possible, in part, with funds from the Individual Artist Grants program of the Arts Council of Rockland and the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts. Her paintings are purchased for private and public collections. Her palette has become brighter and fearless. ”I love painting landscapes,portraits & stills. Love to study how the sun dances upon nature. An acute observation of sunlight paired with bold, painterly brush strokes and a playful palette can really make a canvas sing!” She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, Oil Painters of America,The Arts Council of Rockland, Artists in the Park, Hopper House Artist Association and the Art Students League. Barrasi has exhibited with The National Arts Club, National Pastelists of America, Audubon Artists, Portrait Painters of America and the Lorrilard Wolfe Club.
