Abstract Paintings

Abstract Lumination In these paintings the artist has employed light as a symbol for positive energy experienced in such occurrences as a moment of revelation or attainment of joy. This symbolism is reinforced by color and movement and is realized by strong diagonals and bold strokes. She has attempted to match the power of the symbolism with a strong physicality and creates energy on the two-dimensional canvas surface. `Untitled Geo' shows the challenge of keeping a painting vital using lights and darks and balance such as is often seen in a computer's logic board with the necessity for function. In `The Dancers', movement and light reverberate with the ecstasy of watching one's children find joy in dance. Paintings `For Kimberly' and `For Cathleen' were requested by family members and express the artist's love for them, one with a dawning or birth (for fair-haired Kimberly Dawn' ) and the other offering colors of happiness represented by soaring astral forms that seem to radiate with their own esprit de corps. Search and procurement of symbolic light (as for a solution to a problem, a breakthrough or an idea, winning an award) were thoughts while creating `Transparent Eye' and `Veiled Light'. In the latter, shafts of illumination in splashes of energy and color record new-found freedom while the artist expresses herself in her artwork. This theme is seen in a slightly different form in `La Posibilidad de Mujer'. The innate multi-talents of women are exposed from beneath age-old repression, to discover attainment of goals and recognition for doing so. We are more than a flower, having many layers to offer.
